Married couple whose home was bursting with truckloads of illegal sex pills sentenced
Eduard Yusupov and Diana Fuzailov sold male and female sexual enhancement products online via their company Love Potion, Inc., claiming them to be made from natural ingredients.
But the products offered by the couple included erectile dysfunction drugs containing an undeclared ingredient: Sildenafil – the active ingredient in Viagra, according to court documents seen by The Independent.
Love Potion's online advertising falsely claimed the drugs and dietary supplements, which were largely manufactured in China, were approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. This was not true, as Sildenafil must be sold via prescription.
Between November 2016 and February 2022, the couple received 200 parcels of sex pills to their home in Wading River, New York, before selling and shipping the products to customers located throughout the U.S.
Two such parcels were seized by customs officials in March 2021 and contained more than 20,000 capsules. The powder inside the capsules contained Sildenafil.
According to court documents, the couples' earnings from the scheme totaled over $3.5 million.
Yusupov and Fuzailov pleaded guilty to charges of wire fraud and introducing misbranded drugs into interstate commerce and were sentenced at a federal court on Long Island Thursday.
Judge Joanna Seybert sentenced Yusupov to a year and a day in prison and Fuzailov received three years of probation, according to The New York Times.
According to the FDA, 'contaminating' drugs with undeclared substances constitutes a type of medical health fraud.
'Many products that claim to help with sexual enhancement or treat sexual dysfunction—such as male enhancement supplements, erectile dysfunction treatments, male energy pills and stamina pills—are likely to be contaminated with dangerous hidden ingredients,' the FDA website states.
'These contaminated products are a type of medication health fraud.'
Addressing the judge Thursday, Yusupov admitted to being '100 percent at fault' and said he was 'addicted' to buying the pills, The NYT reported.
In a letter to the judge prior to her sentencing, Fuzailov's lawyers wrote she had accepted her part in the crime and was remorseful for her actions.
'She did not set out to commit a crime or do anything illegal.' the letter said. 'It is also acknowledged that she did not properly vet what she and her husband were doing and instead focused on making money without properly investigating the basis for the business.
'She also acknowledges that the lure of making money and paying off their debts took precedence over the red flags she increasingly became aware of.'

Currently under discussion in the House of Lords, additional details on how these powers will operate have been disclosed by Baroness Maeve Sherlock, a minister of state for the DWP. The primary power that will allow the DWP to request banks to share financial information with its agents is termed the Eligibility Verification Measure, reports the Liverpool Echo. The DWP will be able to collect information from additional third-party organisations such as airlines to verify if people are claiming benefits from abroad and potentially breaching eligibility rules. The financial department will not have direct access to the bank accounts of millions of people on means-tested benefits including Universal Credit, Pension Credit and Employment and Support Allowance. The Department for Work and Pensions will identify individuals who may have exceeded the eligibility criteria for means-tested benefits, such as the £16,000 income threshold for Universal Credit. If a person is identified, the department will then investigate that claimant to prevent possible overpayments and potential cases of fraud. The legislation only permits banks and other financial institutions to share limited data and excludes the sharing of transaction data. This means DWP will not be able to see what people are spending money on. A DWP factsheet states: "Any information shared through the Eligibility Verification Measure will not be shared on the presumption or suspicion that anyone is guilty of any offence. Banks and other financial institutions could receive a penalty for oversharing information, such as transaction information." Baroness Sherlock explains that the information the institution can be asked to share includes details about the account holder, including their name and date of birth. Agents can also request the bank account's sort code and account number, as well as details about how the account meets eligibility. Ministers claim the government is bringing in these powers to establish whether someone qualifies for a benefit they are receiving or have requested based on their financial circumstances. Baroness Sherlock said the measures will be rolled out over 12 months, using a "phased approach" and working with a limited number of banks at first. Drawing on its use by HMRC and the Child Maintenance Service, Baroness Sherlock says DWP anticipates it will issue between 5,000 and 20,000 Direct Deduction Orders annually. A DWP spokesperson told The Independent: "Our Fraud, Error and Recovery Bill includes an Eligibility Verification Measure which will require banks to share limited data on claimants who may wrongly be receiving benefits – such as those on Universal Credit with savings over £16,000. "As well as tackling fraud, the new powers will also help us find genuine claim errors sooner, stopping people building up unmanageable debt. This measure does not give DWP access to any benefit claimants' bank accounts."

Report: Blackstone executive identified as victim in NYC shooting

CNN anchor Erin Burnett blasted for describing NYC shooter as 'possibly white'
CNN anchor Erin Burnett is facing scrutiny after describing the gunman who killed four people in Midtown Manhattan overnight as 'possibly white' despite surveillance footage showing he was not. Burnett angered some on social media on Monday night after describing gunman Shane Tamura, 27, from footage shared by authorities showing him holding an AR-15. Tamura was seen walking into the 345 Park Avenue skyscraper with 'sunglasses, mustache, male, possibly white' Burnett and her co-anchor said. Images of Tamura strolling into the scene with the gun by his waist circulated widely across social media, with many remarking that he had a darker complexion that Burnett's description. Although some said that the shooter's race was 'irrelevant', others said Burnett was premature in her assessment live on the air. It comes as authorities said that Tamura, from Nevada, killed four people in a horror spree on Monday before turning the gun on himself. Investigators said that it is possible he was targeting the National Football League, which is located at 345 Park Avenue. He was found with a letter on his body indicating he had grievances with the NFL and its handling of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) after the rampage. In the note he railed against the NFL and pleaded for his brain to be studied. 'Terry Long football gave me CTE and it caused me to drink a gallon of antifreeze,' Tamura wrote, according to CNN. 'You can't go against the NFL, they'll squash you.' The shooter was referring to former Pittsburgh Steeler Terry Long, who committed suicide by drinking antifreeze in 2006 after suffering from CTE. Tamura killed three people in the lobby of the skyscraper - NYPD officer Didarul Islam, a 36 year-old father of two, as well as a second unnamed security guard who tried to take cover behind a security desk, as well as an undentified woman who tried to hide behind a lobby pillar. A third man was shot and critically-injured in the lobby. Tamura then called an elevator and rode to building management firm Rudin's 33rd floor offices where he shot his fourth victim - whose identity has not been released.
