US, Chinese officials exchange barbs at Shanghai event over trade
US and Chinese officials traded barbs at a celebration held by a US business chamber in Shanghai on Friday, as the chamber appealed to both countries to provide more certainty to American businesses operating in China. Scott Walker, consul general of US consulate in Shanghai, told a gathering of US businesses aimed at celebrating the 110th anniversary of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Shanghai that the US-China economic relationship had been unbalanced and non-reciprocal 'for far too long.' 'We want an end to discriminatory actions and retaliation against U.S. companies in China,' he said. In a speech that directly followed Walker's, Chen Jing, a Shanghai Communist Party official who is also the president of the Shanghai People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, countered Walker's view. 'I believe the consul general's view is prejudiced, ungrounded and not aligning with the phone call of our heads of states last night,' he said. The interaction reflects the continued strained relationship between both countries as the trade war continues to simmer. US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping spoke over a long anticipated call on Thursday, confronting weeks of brewing trade tensions and a battle over critical minerals. Trump later said they agreed to further talks. It came in the middle of a dispute between Washington and Beijing in recent weeks over 'rare earths' minerals that threatened to tear up a fragile truce in the trade war between the two biggest economies. The countries struck a 90-day deal on May 12 to roll back some of the triple-digit, tit-for-tat tariffs they had placed on each other since Trump's January inauguration but the deal has not addressed broader concerns that strain the relationship and Trump has accused China of violating the agreement. Eric Zheng, president of AmCham Shanghai which counts over 1,000 companies among its membership, told reporters on the sidelines of the event that many companies had put their decision-making on pause due to the uncertainty. 'People are looking for some more definitive, durable statements on both sides that enable businesses to feel more secure,' he said. 'Our number one ask from the two governments is to give us some certainty so that we can plan accordingly.'

Jake Paul slams Donald Trump and Elon Musk for ‘diss tweeting each other'
Jake Paul took to social media on Thursday to share his thoughts on the fallout between Elon Musk and Donald Trump. In a scathing post shared on X, formerly Twitter, the 28-year-old criticised the Republican Party and its leaders with 'alpha male egos.' 'One of the problems with the Republican Party is on display today,' Paul wrote, referring to the ongoing feud between the president and the Tesla CEO. In recent days, the duo have been exchanging barbs on social media, with Musk accusing Trump of being named in the FBI files on child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The YouTuber-turned-boxer went on to say that as a 'current Republican,' 'We unfortunately have these Alpha male egos and leaders who aren't mature enough sometimes.' 'They're 50+ years old and diss tweeting each other. Elon and Trump are great but they need to work together and not make America look bad,' he added. Paul's remark comes after the Trump-Musk feud escalated with the latter's bombshell Epstein claim. 'Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!' the Tesla CEO wrote on X. While the president has yet to address the claim, he previously fired back at Musk's previous attacks. Earlier this week, the richest man in the world publicly criticised the president's 'big, beautiful' spending bill, calling it 'ugly,' 'outrageous,' and 'disgusting.' 'I'm sorry, but I just can't stand it anymore. This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it,' he wrote on X. Meanwhile, Trump called out Musk in multiple Truth Social posts, one of which, read, 'Elon was 'wearing thin,' I asked him to leave, I took away his EV Mandate that forced everyone to buy Electric Cars that nobody else wanted (that he knew for months I was going to do!), and he just went CRAZY!'

Elon Musk, Stephen Miller unfollow each other on X amid rumors of tussle over Katie Miller
Elon Musk and Stephen Miller unfollow each other on X amid rumors over Katie Miller. Elon Musk and Stephen Miller do not follow each other on X, the social media platform that Elon Musk owns, after Stephen Miller's wife Katie Miller chose to walk out of the White House with Elon Musk to work for him full time. This happened just before the big blow-up between Elon Musk and President Donald Trump Thursday and also hints that this was brewing for quite some time. Stephen Miller is one of Trump's most trusted and visible aides and the Millers even got married at Trump Tower, Washington -- such is their bond with Trump. The 'divorce' of Elon Musk and Donald Trump started with the disenchantment between the Elon world and the Trumpworld and that started with the Millers as they were part of both. Stephen Miller and Katie Miller were always with Elon Musk as they were Musk's point persons in Washington. A Wall Street Journal report confirmed that the husband and wife spent extensive time with Elon Musk -- even outside the White House. Katie Miller was Elon Musk's spokesperson in the administration, serving as the bridge between the Department of Government Efficiency and the administration. Whenever Elon Musk was in Washington, Katie was there with him. Rumors swirled that they were a throuple until Katie Miller chose to walk out of the White House with Elon Musk. What happened between the Millers and Musk? Neither of them issued any public statement regarding their relationship. Katie Miller posted a screenshot that said DOGE is a lifestyle like Buddhism making it clear that she was going with Elon Musk to work for him. While the personal equation among the three of them remains uncertain, Elon Musk and Stephen Miller unfollowed each other on X, it is confirmed. Stephen Miller has been defending Trump's 'Big, Beautiful Bill' which is the bone of contention between Trump and Musk. But Miller did not name Musk in his angry defense, though used Musk's word 'pork' in his counter to defend the bill. "The only 'new' spending in the bill is to defend the homeland and deport the illegals—paid for by raising visa fees. All the other provisions? Massive spending cuts. There is no 'pork' in the bill. Just campaign promises," Stephen Miller wrote. Katie's departure created friction amid White House officials as Katie was reportedly on Musk's payroll the entire time, though her official role was that of a special government employee.
