Shocking footage captured the moment a cheaply built deck collapsed as a toddler celebrated his Spider-Man-themed third birthday party.
The young son of Hilary and Tony Loffredo was seen preparing to blow out his candles when the deck outside their home in West Des Moines, Iowa suddenly crumbled underneath them.
'The kids were crying and we all were screaming, 'Oh my gosh, what do we do?'' Hilary told KCCL.
She said around 20 people had gathered for her son's birthday and were eagerly awaiting his Spider-Man themed cake when the deck caved in seconds before they could tuck in.
'There were some people down trapped between the deck and the house and the grill was on top of them,' Hilary continued.
'We were passing the kids from person to person up to the house to get them safe because we weren't sure when the other part of the deck was going to fall and collapse.'
Emergency services raced to the home, and due to the number of people involved the West Des Fire Department upgraded their response to a mass casualty incident to bring more fire trucks and ambulances to the home.
Thankfully no children or parents were seriously injured in the collapse, with Tony suffering the worst of the impact as he required stitches on his knee.

Tony said: 'I looked down just under my knee and it's just blood running down my knee and I'm like, 'Oh great.'
'Obviously, it could have been way worse. Very fortunate that was the only thing that really had blood or stitched up.'
West Des Fire Marshal Mike Whitsell told KCCI that although the party attendees were okay, when they first arrived on the scene it was a 'very scary situation.'
The Loffredos said they bought the home in 2019 after the previous owners put up the wooden deck, and recently had an inspection that found it was not up to scratch.
'The previous homeowners hired a local contractor to put this deck up with the roof that is over it and apparently some corners were cut, some things were forgot,' Hilary said.
Whitsell said that while a deck suddenly collapsing is rare, there are some things that homeowners can question to find out if they are at risk.
'How old is your deck? Do you have rotted boards that are on there? Have you had your deck inspected?' he said.
'If you've moved into a newer home or a home that maybe somebody had previously, you might just want to have somebody take a look at that.'
For the Loffredos, they said they didn't let the incident ruin their son's birthday, and they went on to celebrate with another cake at a bowling alley later in the day (pictured)

'We rushed out to the store and just bought a cake. We sang happy birthday to him not here. We went to Spare Time and did it and sang happy birthday to him. He was so excited. All he cared about was the cake,' Hilary said.
In a Facebook post, She added that a total of two firetrucks, an ambulance, and five police cars showed up, but said thankfully, 'It could have been much worse!'
'I don't think the Birthday Boy, or any of us, are going to forget this Birthday Party for a long time!' she said.

Dying dad howls after espresso martini-fueled teen crashed into him at 87mph
A dying father was heard crying out in pain after his car was struck by a speeding teenage joyrider who also left a seven year-old girl with a broken spine. Eglin Manuel Castro Alvarez's howls were captured on bodycam footage filmed in Oak Lawn, Illinois, in Chicago on January 7 after Peter Swenson, 19, crashed into him. Swenson, a medical student, was filmed telling police he'd had two espresso martinis and gone for a 'joyride' to let off steam while caring for his father, who has stage four liver cancer. He allegedly ran a red light in Oak Lawn and crashed into Alvarez, 27, and his seven-year-old daughter, only slowing to 87mph upon impact. The bodycam footage, obtained earlier this week by BodyCam Edition, also picked up the screams of Alvarez's seven year-old daughter, who has not been named. Neither could be seen on camera. Alvarez had just finished work and was picking his daughter up from her babysitter when the horror crash happened. Officers managed to get the girl out and rush her to hospital, but it took half an hour for firefighters to cut off both driver's side doors to free the man. Alvarez was pronounced dead at the hospital three hours after the crash. His daughter survived with seven spinal fractures, broken ribs, and bruised lungs. Swenson who was filmed wearing an expensive Canada Goose jacket, told police after the crash that he was out for 'a little joyride' with his girlfriend after the stress of his father's cancer battle. His girlfriend told police, in the bodycam footage, they drank two or three espresso martinis at his house three or four hours earlier. Swenson failed a field sobriety test and refused a breathalyzer without a lawyer or his father. Tests allegedly showed he had a blood alcohol level of 0.154, close to twice the legal limit. A man who helped Swenson and his girlfriend out of the car told police 'he's lit, bro'. Police initially didn't know there was another car involved and were more casual and friendly when talking to the teen after being called to the crash. Swenson's red Lincoln SUV came to a stop at a vacant oil change business, while Alvarez's Honda SUV was some distance farther up the road. Swenson explained that he tried to brake at a yellow light but 'I didn't make the light, unfortunately' and collided with another car coming through. 'We were just out on a little joyride and when I was stepping on the brakes it was a little bit too late and... it was a mistake,' he told police on the bodycam footage. 'I'm so sorry, I can't believe that this happened, this is genuinely unbelievable.' Swenson said his father worked at the Illinois Office of Comptroller Chicago and was battling cancer. 'He recently was diagnosed with stage four liver cancer so the only reason her and I went out was just because of... recently there was a lot of stress,' he said. 'He only has a couple of cycles left and so I just wanted to get away from it all.' Dashcam footage from a witness allegedly showed his car traveling dangerously fast, and CCTV from a gas station caught it zooming through the red light. After police saw the dashcam footage and became aware of Alvarez's condition, their attitude towards Swenson changed. 'He's flying past her (the witness), blows through the red light, smokes this guy,' one policeman explained to another who hadn't yet seen the dashcam video. Swenson again protested 'it was an honest mistake, I can't believe that this happened', which caused one officer to lose his cool. 'I can believe it, I just watched how you were f**king driving,' he yelled at the teenager. Swenson responded by asking for his name and badge number, prompting the officer to walk away in disbelief. Over the course of the incident, he asked many times for names and badge numbers of the officers involved, or if they would at least be included in the report. Swenson was arrested after failing the field sobriety test and refusing the breathalyzer and put in the back of a police car. He was later charged with reckless homicide, aggravated driving under the influence and driving under the influence causing death. Swenson was released on bail but banned from driving or drinking alcohol, and ordered to stay home from 6pm to 6am every day. He must submit to random alcohol and drug testing, and even if he was later allowed to drive, the vehicle must have a breath alcohol ignition interlock device.

Customs and Border Protection has confirmed that, no, agents did not stop a Norwegian traveler who showed them a meme of a bald Vice President JD Vance. 'Fact Check: FALSE,' the CBP wrote on X. 'Mads Mikkelsen was not denied entry for any memes or political reasons, it was for his admitted drug use.' And no, the agency is not referring to Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen, but rather the similarly named 21-year-old who was denied entry at Newark Liberty International Airport on June 11. The story circulating online — first in Norwegian newspaper Nordlys and then picked up by British tabloids — claims that during Mikkelsen's encounter with the Department of Homeland Security, agents took his phone and found a meme depicting Vance as a bloated, smooth, bald man staring off into the distance. Mikkelsen claims that the officials threatened to fine him $5,000 or send him to prison for five years if he refused to provide them with his phone password. The tourist ultimately agreed to hand over his information, allowing agents to look through his phone. He says that's when they saw the meme. After the agents looked through his phone, he said he was denied entry to the United States and was sent back to Norway. The reports picked up enough steam in headlines and on social media to justify CBP putting out a statement denying parts of the story. Homeland Security deputy secretary Tricia McLaughlin called the story 'false' and 'BS' in a post on X. Like the CBP announcement, she insisted that Mikkelsen was denied entry after admitting to using drugs. Mikkelsen does acknowledge that he was questioned about his use of drugs during the incident. He said DHS agents saw a second photo on his phone, which was a wooden pipe that he'd made for himself. The agents also reportedly asked him about drug smuggling, terror plots, and right-wing extremism, and Mikkelsen claims he was forced to provide the agents with a blood sample. While Mikkelsen and CBP may not agree on what precisely caused his denial of entry to the country, both agree that there was an encounter. One question we do not have an answer to is why Mikkelsen was targeted in the first place for heightened scrutiny. President Donald Trump has effectively turned the entire federal government into an immigration enforcement agency and given DHS the flexibility to treat every foreign-born individual visiting the United States like a probable criminal threat. In April, DHS announced its agents would begin screening immigrants' social media accounts for so-called 'antisemitic activity,' which under the Trump administration could mean anything from neo-Nazi sentiments to voicing opposition to Israel's war in Gaza. All student visa applicants must now change the privacy settings on their social media profiles to 'public.' A recent State Department cable directs diplomats to review social media profiles for 'any indications of hostility towards the citizens, culture, government, institutions or founding principles of the United States.' In recent months, reports of increased denials, detentions, and heightened scrutiny of visitors by DHS agents have made headlines. In one instance, a French researcher was denied entry after customs agents found a 'personal opinion on the Trump administration's research policy' on his phone. The denial earned a public scolding by a French minister. Last week, an Australian writer was sent back to Melbourne after DHS agents in Los Angeles questioned him over his views on the Israeli treatment of Palestinians. The general political tension and instability dovetailing with heightened security screenings have led several nations — including China, Denmark, and Finland — to issue travel warnings advising its citizens to consider if a trip to the United States is worth the risk of harassment or violence.
