Canon EMEA has announced a new partnership with Nature Seychelles and the Coral Spawning Lab (CSL) to support coral reef restoration in the Western Indian Ocean. The collaboration establishes the first coral breeding lab of its kind in the region.
The initiative aims to restore and protect Seychelles' coral reefs against climate change. It introduces advanced methods of coral regeneration and genetic diversity through land-based aquaculture.
Canon will invest in building and operating the facility, as well as provide state-of-the-art imaging technology. This equipment will enhance documentation, education, and citizen science by capturing coral spawning in unprecedented detail.
The new coral breeding facility will strengthen Nature Seychelles' Assisted Recovery of Corals (ARC) programme. The ARC facility focuses on creating genetically diverse coral species capable of withstanding climate stress.
Canon's contribution will also support photomicrography, photogrammetry, and the production of high-resolution visuals for scientific use and public awareness.
Key aspects of the partnership include: A genetic bank of resilient coral species
Imaging tools for coral research and awareness
On-ground training provided by UK-based CSL experts
Dr. Nirmal Shah, CEO of Nature Seychelles, stated that the project moves beyond traditional 'coral gardening,' which results in genetically identical corals. Instead, it focuses on diversity, which is essential for resilience.
Dr. Jamie Craggs, co-founder of CSL, emphasized the importance of combining scientific innovation with Canon's imaging expertise to raise global awareness and improve conservation outcomes.
Peter Bragg, Director of Sustainability and Government Affairs at Canon EMEA, reaffirmed Canon's commitment to biodiversity. He highlighted the role of imaging technology in empowering communities and promoting conservation efforts.
Canon's involvement aligns with its broader sustainability goals and mission to support environmental protection using imaging tools from cameras to satellite systems.
This collaboration is expected to contribute significantly to the long-term health of Seychelles' coral ecosystems, which are vital to the country's economy, biodiversity, and coastal protection.

Trump Mobile debuts $499 gold smartphone and US‑centred service

The Trump Organisation has unveiled Trump Mobile, featuring a $499 gold-hued T1 smartphone and a monthly '47 Plan' priced at $47.45. Designed to target conservative consumers disenchanted with mainstream providers, the offering promises an American‑branded telecommunications package with US‑based customer support and domestically produced handsets. Donald Trump Jr and Eric Trump introduced the venture on 16 June 2025 at Trump Tower, emphasising the use of US‑made phones and support centres located in St Louis and elsewhere in the United States. The 47 Plan includes unlimited calls, texts and data, telemedicine access, roadside assistance, and free international texting or calls to over 100 countries—features positioned as value-adds for patriotic users. Although marketed under the Trump brand, the company clarified it does not manufacture the T1 device nor operate the network; T1 Mobile LLC holds the trademark licence and resells service through Liberty Mobile, leveraging T‑Mobile's nationwide 5G infrastructure. Planned availability stretches to September for the phone, with service expected shortly thereafter. ADVERTISEMENT Analysts from PP Foresight and Zacks Investment Management flagged uncertainties around Trump Mobile's business model. They cited strategic opacity regarding the roles of telecom partners and the licensed operators, and pointed to the challenge of scaling in a market dominated by Apple, Samsung, Verizon, AT&T and T‑Mobile, which jointly hold nearly 95 % of US wireless subscribers. TMT analyst Paolo Pescatore remarked, 'the devil is in the detail', urging scrutiny of contractual arrangements. Bloomberg and Washington Post reports noted that the smartphone will boast a 6.78‑inch 120 Hz OLED display, 12 GB of RAM, 256 GB expandable storage, and a 5000 mAh battery under Android 15, though Bloomberg also flagged inconsistencies in disclosed specs. The gold-coloured design features a 3.5 mm headphone jack and a 50 MP primary camera, though the source and location of manufacture remain unspecified—a significant point given domestic production costs and supply‑chain complexity. Trump Mobile builds on the Trump family's expanding ideological commerce. It joins ventures like Truth Social, crypto ETFs, and previously launched hospitality efforts. Trademark filings made by DTTM Operations ahead of the launch cover rights to 'Trump' and 'T1' for telecom-related goods and services, signalling an intent to widen its footprint into accessories and retail outlets. Supporters view the launch as aligned with nationalist rhetoric, emphasising American manufacturing and values. Eric Trump framed it as 'affordable, reflects their values, and delivers reliable quality'. Critics, however, warn of potential conflicts of interest given the president's regulatory influence and the layering of Trump enterprises atop federal agencies such as the FCC. A comparison in the marketplace reveals existing ideologically‑oriented offerings such as Patriot Mobile, which operates under AT&T, T‑Mobile and Verizon networks and supports conservative causes. However, Patriot Mobile holds fewer than 100,000 subscribers, illustrating the scale challenge ahead for Trump Mobile. The telecom sector's capital intensity and entrenched scale present barriers to market entry. Founded on 16 June 2025, Trump Mobile must secure licensing agreements, build subscriber base, and establish brand credibility outside the Trump‑aligned customer segment.

History In The Making: Tour The Whiteley's Latest Ultra-Elegant, All-English Residence

New life breathed into an iconic London building honours both purpose and place Whether you are a born and bred Londoner or a recurring visitor to the capital, you'll no doubt have heard about Whiteleys department store in some capacity. Conceived by its namesake William Whiteley, its first iteration was as a drapery shop on Westbourne Grove which opened in 1863. It moved, in 1911, to a bigger purpose-built store on Queensway which was considered to be the 'largest shop in the world' and the 'most beautiful store in the United Kingdom'. This bastion of luxury and lifestyle was further extended between 1925 and 1927 to incorporate the iconic Grade II-listed frontage that stands today. It closed in 1981, reopening eight years later as a shopping centre, before eventually shuttering completely in 2018. But another incarnation awaited. A Dhs4.9 billion revival into The Whiteley to build a landmark residential and hospitality destination home to Six Senses' first London hotel, luxury residences and The Designer Collection. The latter comprises a series of luxury apartments, with the latest residence just unveiled. A first-of-its-kind collaboration in the UK, the apartment has been conceptualised by RH Contract, bringing the design authority of RH – formerly Restoration Hardware – to this spectacular three-bedroom, duplex home. Exceptionally spacious, the apartment unfolds over 4,000 square feet, with 6.1-metre ceilings, and an open-plan layout with herringbone floors that establishes a spatial flow. Stunning arched windows amplify both natural light and views, while the mezzanine houses the master bedroom, which elegantly floats over the living area below. Interiors blend classic European elegance with modern refinement, where serene hues of soft beige, white and warm caramel tones couple with striking lighting design, such as the Rain Round chandelier by master glass designer Alison Berger. RH furnishings dress each room, with pieces like the Matteo Sofa, Scala Chair and Lara Dining Chair adding both comfort and refinement. Make your home here and you'll be in good company. The design of the prestigious Whiteley development incorporates a multitude of functions, from shops and restaurants, to leisure and Six Senses' five-star hotel. But beyond the building, the redevelopment breathes new life into the neighbourhood, creating a connection for its community with its past and present. A one-of-a-kind residence that encapsulates the iconic legacy of this landmark building, its future is for the taking.
