32 devotees on padayatra to Palani killed on Dindigul roads since 2020
According to a response given by police department in a reply to a RTI query filed by TNIE, in 2020 three people died and six people were injured, 2021 reported two deaths and 10 injured, 2022 reported 12 deaths and 25 injured, 2023 reported six deaths and 28 injured, 2024 reported three deaths, and 23 injured, and upto April 2025, six deaths were reported on the national highways, state highways, and even village roads in Dindigul leading to Palani.
G Dheenadayalan, ward councillor of Palani municipality, told TNIE, 'Over 1.5 lakh devotees take up padayatra to the Palani temple during Thaipusam festival, and around 40,000 people visit the temple every day during Pongal. However, they are under constant fear of being hit by vehicles. This happens mostly during the night and early morning due to poor visibility.

It happens in Bihar! ‘Dead' woman comes alive
PATNA: A woman, who was declared dead nearly three months ago, was discovered alive, thanks to the door-to-door campaign by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) for revision of electoral rolls in election-bound Bihar. Nisha Kumari was found alive when a BLO visited the house of one Shivranjan Kumar, a resident of Dhanarua in rural Patna, for verification of the voter list last month. The BLO was stunned to find Nisha Kumari, already declared dead in government records, as she was declared dead, and a death certificate was obtained from the state government on May 5. When the officer verified the voter list, he learnt that the Revenue, Land Reforms and Registration department had issued the death certificate. Nisha's death certificate was obtained through a Right to Information Act counter. The BLO collected Nisha's details and provided her with an enumeration form. But Nisha's worries did not end there. She submitted an application through RTI to the Block Development Officer (BDO), Dhanarua, seeking the name of the person who had applied for her death certificate. She was shocked to know it was her husband, Shivranjan.

Minister's family running dance bar under mother's name gives up licence
Mumbai: Following allegations that the minister of state for home, Yogesh Kadam, was running a dance bar with a licence in his mother's name, the Kadam family reportedly surrendered the orchestra licence of Savali bar in Kandivli on Friday. Shiv Sena (UBT) MLC Anil Parab criticised the licence surrender, stating it proves his allegations were right and that a dance bar with immoral activities was being operated by the Kadam family for years. Demanding Kadam's resignation, Parab argued that just because a thief returns stolen goods, he cannot be let off. "Yogesh Kadam must resign on moral grounds, but it seems the CM is helpless and can't take action against him. The law was broken by the MoS home, who is supposed to be the protector of the law," Parab said. Kadam did not respond to calls and texts from TOI on Friday. He also presented evidence that sand extracted from the Jagbudi river, intended for houses for poor farmers, was allegedly being diverted to a dental college linked to Kadam's family in Ratnagiri. Parab on Friday demanded action against Kadam, warning that if the CM does not take action, it will be assumed that he too is shielding dance bars. "The MoS home, who is the protector of the law, is trampling the law. It's a pity that the CM can't take action and is helpless. It's not too late. I have already given all the evidence to the CM. So far, there is no action on the licence holder. The police are under political pressure. So first, Yogesh Kadam must resign; otherwise, this will show the CM is helpless. The CM must show some spine," Parab said. "There is a Savali bar, its licence is in the name of Yogesh Kadam's mother. There were bar girls dancing there, obscene dances, and money was being thrown. All this information is in the police records and FIR. I got this information under the Right to Information (RTI) Act. Therefore, it cannot be false. Accordingly, when the raid was conducted, action was taken against 22 bar dancers, 22 customers, and four employees in the bar. They say that they do not run the dance bar; it is given to someone else to run. I am telling you the provisions of the law for your information: if a servant or someone authorised by the owner commits a misdemeanour, the responsibility lies with the owner. Police have all video footage of a dance bar being run there," Parab said.

Anil Parab says Yogesh Kadam surrendered bar's orchestra license after allegations, demands his resignation
Shiv Sena UBT MLC Anil Parab on Friday claimed that an orchestra license of a bar held in the name of Minister of State for Home Yogesh Kadam's family member was surrendered and termed the move as an 'admission of guilt' by Kadam family and demanded the minister's removal from the state cabinet. Addressing a press conference in Mumbai, Parab alleged that the Savali Bar, located in Kandivali, was being operated illegally by Kadam's family and had been raided by police in 2023 and again earlier this year. He claimed that police reports and documents, which have been obtained through the Right to Information (RTI) Act, indicated that the bar was the site of obscene performances and money being thrown at dancers, in violation of licensing norms. 'They have surrendered the license to the government, but that cannot absolve the minister of the charge that his family ran a dance bar,' Parab said. 'Surrendering the license is an admission of guilt,' he added. Kadam, who belongs to the Shiv Sena headed by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, has not publicly responded to the renewed allegations. Messages sent by The Indian Express to Kadam seeking comments elicited no response. During a recent session of the Legislative Council, Kadam had acknowledged that the license was in his mother's name, but claimed that the bar had been leased to a third party and that his family was not involved in its operations. Parab rejected that explanation, asserting that license holders remain legally accountable for the premises. 'How can a Minister of State for Home be allowed to continue when his own family is linked to such a serious violation of law?' he said. 'If Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis does not act, it will set a dangerous precedent.' Parab also alleged that the bar had been misclassified in government records and operated in violation of its license conditions. He further claimed that Kadam's family was involved in the illegal diversion of sand from the Jagbudi River in Ratnagiri for the construction of a private dental college affiliated with them. The political rivalry between Kadam and Parab traces back to their time in the undivided Shiv Sena, particularly when Parab served as the Guardian Minister for Ratnagiri district between 2019 and 2022 — the home district of Kadam's father, senior Sena leader Ramdas Kadam.
