Phase I of B.Ed. seat allotment announced; 9,955 secure convener quota seats
For the current admission cycle, a total of 14,295 seats were available under the convener quota for B.Ed. Courses, including seats reserved for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS). Of these, 9,955 seats have been allotted to students who participated in the first phase of counselling.
A record number of 17,151 candidates exercised web options as part of the online seat selection process, reflecting the high demand for B.Ed. Courses among graduates this year. Out of these, 9,955 students successfully secured seats in various colleges through this phase.
Prof. Reddy explained that students who have been allotted seats must pay the tuition fee online using a Credit Card, Debit Card, or NEFT. Upon payment, candidates are required to download their Tuition Fee Receipt and Joining Report and present themselves at their respective colleges for physical verification of original certificates between August 11 and August 14, 2025.
The verification step is mandatory. Only after successful verification of original documents will students receive the final allotment order from the college authorities. This ensures compliance with admission and eligibility criteria for all selected candidates.
The convener expressed satisfaction with the transparent and smooth conduct of the online allotment process, noting the enthusiastic participation and cooperation of the candidates. He urged all successful students to complete their joining formalities within the designated dates to avoid any delays in starting the academic session.

US to end 'Dropbox' visa renewals from Sept 2: Students, workers to be hit
The United States will soon shut down its Interview Waiver Programme—better known as the 'Dropbox' facility—for most non-immigrant visas, including work and student categories. The change takes effect from September 2, 2025, and will force the majority of applicants to attend in-person interviews, even if they have a clean visa history. For years, Dropbox allowed eligible travellers to skip the face-to-face interview and submit documents at a designated location instead. It was a faster, less stressful option, particularly for Indian professionals and students. But as part of US President Donald Trump's 'One Big Beautiful Bill Act', signed on July 4, the policy is being rolled back in the name of 'enhancing security' and tightening screening. Immigration attorney Emily Neumann warned, 'If you're planning international travel or visa renewal this autumn, don't assume you're eligible for interview waiver (Dropbox) processing anymore. The State Department is ending waiver eligibility for most visa categories, including H-1B, L-1, F-1, and J-1.' What is changing under the new policy • Most interview waivers for visa renewals, including H-1B, H-4, L1, F, M, O1 and J, will end. • Children under 14 and seniors over 79 will no longer qualify. • Only certain diplomatic or official visas—A, G, NATO and TECRO—remain eligible. • A narrow set of B-1/B-2 tourist and business visa renewals can still avoid interviews, but only under strict criteria. • Even if you qualify, a consular officer can still require an interview. 'Consular posts will see increased demand for appointments, especially in high-volume categories such as student and work visas. Wait times, backlogs and delays are expected through the autumn and holiday seasons.' Reddy added, 'Anyone in the United States on valid status but with an expired visa—or whose most recent visa was in a different category—should be cautious about travelling. These individuals will now need an in-person interview before re-entering the US, and given the risk of delays or denials, non-essential travel should be avoided.' Steps to prepare for the change • Begin the DS-160 application early and pay the MRV fee promptly. • Gather all supporting documents in advance. • Monitor the website of your local US embassy or consulate for updates. • Allow extra time for both interview booking and visa processing. • Employers should adjust onboarding or travel plans for staff accordingly. Who can still use the interview waiver A narrow set of applicants will retain interview waiver eligibility: • Diplomatic and official visas: A-1, A-2, C-3 (except attendants/servants), G-1 to G-4, NATO-1 to NATO-6, and TECRO E-1. • Certain B-1/B-2 tourist and business visa or Border Crossing Card renewals—only if the previous visa was full-validity, expired within the last 12 months, was issued when the applicant was over 18, and is being renewed in the same category in the country of nationality or residence, with no prior refusals or ineligibility. Even then, consular officers may require an interview at their discretion.

Apollo Hospitals shares hit record high after Q1; check breakdown here
Shares of Apollo Hospitals Enterprise surged over 6 per cent on Wednesday after the company reported a 42 per cent jump in its June quarter net profit, along with an expansion strategy. The leading hospital chain's stock rose as much as 6.5 per cent to hit a record high of ₹7,708.5 per share. The stock pared gains some to trade 6 per cent higher at ₹7,675 apiece, compared to a 0.4 per cent advance in Nifty 50 as of 9:52 AM. Shares of the firm saw the biggest intraday rise since November 7 last year and currently trade at 18 times the average 30-day trading volume, according to Bloomberg. The counter has risen 5.4 per cent this year, compared to a 4 per cent advance in the benchmark Nifty 50. Apollo Hospitals has a total market capitalisation of ₹1.1 trillion. Apollo Hospitals Q1 results The hospital chain reported a 42 per cent rise in net profit during the first quarter of the financial year 2025-26 9Q1FY26) to ₹432.8 crore, compared to ₹305.2 crore during the same period last year. Its consolidated revenues grew 15 per cent year-on-year (Y-o-Y) to ₹5,842.1 crore, compared to ₹5,085.6 crore during the same quarter of FY25. Ebitda stood at ₹852 crore versus ₹675 crore in the first quarter of FY25. As of June 30, Apollo Hospitals had 8,030 operating beds across the network (excluding AHLL and managed beds). The overall occupancy for hospitals was at 65 per cent compared to 68 per cent in the same period in the previous year. Apollo Hospitals' expansion plans The company announced its growth strategy to add over 4,300 beds in the next five years with an investment of over ₹7,600 crore. The first phase of 2,000 beds is already in progress, Prathap C Reddy, chairman, Apollo Hospitals Enterprise, said. "We have added an existing 200-bed hospital in Bengaluru and will also be establishing a 500-bed greenfield hospital in the suburbs of the city to bring the total bed strength in Bengaluru to 1,500 beds." The board of directors has approved an investment not exceeding Rs 8.5 crore for acquiring 8.5 million equity shares of Apollo Gleneagles PET-CT from its existing shareholder, Parkway Healthcare (Mauritius). Apollo Hospitals' digital growth Apollo 24/7 achieved a quarterly gross merchandise value (GMV) of over ₹682 crore, sustaining the platform's momentum and signalling continuing strong demand for teleconsultations, lab services and pharmacy deliveries. "This performance builds on the platform's FY25 GMV of Rs 3,007 crore, demonstrating our success in creating a seamless care continuum from home to hospital," Reddy said.

GGU hosts ‘Innovation Startup Day'
Rajamahendravaram: Godavari Global University (GGU) hosted an 'Innovation Startup Day' on Tuesday, with speakers emphasising the crucial role of universities in transforming innovative ideas into market-ready products. Dr Kushwant Kumar Seeram Reddy, Scientist-C at the Med Valley Incubation Council, MedTech Zone, AP, was the chief guest. He stated that their goal is to provide facilities and resources for establishing new startups. Reddy noted that Andhra Pradesh currently has 2,000 startups and that the council offers full support, especially to those in the healthcare sector. He said that innovative ideas can lead to products that solve many of the nation's problems. Sriram Bhagavatula, CEO of Anakapalli Rural Incubation Centre, spoke about the unique industrial opportunities in East Godavari district. He encouraged students to use technology to solve local problems, suggesting that young people can become entrepreneurs by launching startups with small investments. GGU Vice-Chancellor KVV Satyanarayana Raju (Chaitanya Raju), who presided over the event, stressed that successfully turning ideas into marketable products is key to future success. He mentioned the government's aim to see at least one entrepreneur emerge from every family in the state. Pro-Chancellor K Sasikiran Varma announced that GGU has already registered 25 startups and plans to launch a fully-equipped incubation centre. Other attendees included District Industries Centre General Manager SRW Vanidhar, GGU Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr U Chandrasekhar, Innovation Director Dr Y Muralidhara Reddy, and Wadhwani Foundation Director-Partnerships Dayakar Murthy.
