Russian FM Criticizes Israel's ‘Collective Punishment' of Gaza Civilians
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Thursday described Israeli attacks on Gaza as 'collective punishment of the civilian population,' according to AFP.
Lavrov's statement represents one of Moscow's strongest criticisms of Israel that has been committing a genocide in Gaza.
The minister also stated that 'measures taken by Israel' in response to the October 7 attack by Hamas 'constitute collective punishment of the civilian population.'
Therefore, he described what was happening in Gaza 'incomprehensible and indescribable.'
Since the beginning of Hamas-Israel War in Gaza in 2023, the Israeli strikes have killed at least 53,500 Palestinians and wounded more than 118,000, according to Gaza's Health Ministry.
Hamas has recently agreed to US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff's proposal for a Gaza ceasefire, while an Israeli official has rejected the deal and claimed that it was not Washington's, according to Reuters.
'The proposal includes the release of 10 living Israeli hostages held by Hamas in two groups in return for a 70-day ceasefire and a partial withdrawal from the Gaza Strip,' the source said.
The deal also involved the release of a number of Palestinian prisoners by Israel, notably hundreds serving lengthy prison terms.
However, an Israeli official dismissed the deal, expressing that no Israeli government could approve such an agreement. He further rejected the confirmation that the deal aligned with Witkoff's proposal.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has recently said that Israel would only agree to a temporary ceasefire in exchange of the release of hostages. Netanyahu also vowed that eradicating Hamas would mark the immediate end of the war.

On Saturday, the Israeli military, which relaunched its air and ground campaign in March following a two-month truce, said it was continuing to hit targets in Gaza, including sniper posts and had killed what it said was the head of a Hamas weapons manufacturing site. The campaign has cleared large areas along the boundaries of the Gaza Strip, squeezing the population of more than 2 million into an ever narrower section along the coast and around the southern city of Khan Younis. Israel imposed a blockade on all supplies entering the enclave at the beginning of March in an effort to weaken Hamas and has found itself under increasing pressure from an international community shocked by the increasingly desperate humanitarian situation the blockade has created. The United Nations said on Friday the situation in Gaza is the worst since the start of the war began 19 months ago, with the entire population facing the risk of famine despite a resumption of limited aid deliveries earlier this month. Israeli strike kills Lebanese man in south

UNRWA chief: Limited Gaza aid a ‘mockery' as starvation deepens
GAZA — The Commissioner-General of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) has sharply criticized the limited delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, calling it a 'mockery' of the worsening humanitarian disaster in the territory. 'There are reports that 900 trucks were sent in the past two weeks. That's just over 10 per cent of the daily needs of people in Gaza,' Philippe Lazzarini said in a statement on Saturday, posted on X. 'The aid that's being sent now makes a mockery of the mass tragedy unfolding under our watch.' Lazzarini stressed that the humanitarian system is being paralyzed by politics while Gaza's 2.4 million residents face starvation and relentless bombardment. 'We are not asking for the impossible. Allow the UN including UNRWA and humanitarian partners to do our work: assist people in need and preserve their dignity,' he urged. He recalled that during the last ceasefire, aid organizations were able to deliver between 600 and 800 trucks daily, which helped avert famine at the time. 'The current mass starvation can be stopped. It takes political will,' he said.
