Jada Keche, Lionel Johnson Jr. & Carolyn Michelle Smith To Star In Kevin Jerome Everson's Debut Narrative Feature ‘Lowndes County'
Just recently wrapping production in Columbus, Mississippi, the film is set in rural Mississippi in 1959, five years after Brown v. Board of Education and five years before the 1964 Civil Rights Act. A year of deep uncertainty. Penned by Everson and playwright Talaya Delaney, and based on the experiences of Everson's father and uncle as teenage bus drivers in Columbus, Mississippi in the 1950s, the story centers on Borne (Keche), a brave, resourceful African-American teenager and her older brother Gago (Johnson Jr.), who must fight against a system determined to break them, and use their daring to fix their school bus after it is vandalized. To achieve their dreams, and ensure their safe passage to school, they turn to the strength, power and resources of their community, and learn through Cassilee, the 'Queen of Catfish Alley' (Smith), the lessons of history.

His films, 12 features to date and over 300 solo and collaborative shorts, have premiered at major festivals including Sundance, Berlinale, BlackStar, Locarno, Venice, Toronto, New York Film Festival, BFI/London and AFI Fest and exhibit at museums (Centre Pompidou, Tate Modern, MoMA, Whitney Museum of American Art), galleries and art biennials. He is the Commonwealth and Ruffin Foundation Distinguished Professor of Studio Art and Director of Studio Arts at the University of Virginia.

After the cable-news network announced it would become My Source News Opinion World, or MS NOW, later this year, netizens have taken to social media to make their disdain for the name and logo change more than abundantly clear. The issue, according to the Internet, isn't just the name, it's also the look and 'feel' of the new logo. 'MSNBC changing its name to MS NOW is one of the worst branding disasters in media history. The logo looks like it belongs on a discount computer from 1998, not a serious news network,' one user wrote. 'Absurd.' The rebranding is part of a larger restructuring currently taking place at NBCUniversal. The network, along with other brands including USA Network, Syfy, CNBC, Golf Channel, GolfNow, and SportsEngine will become part of a new media company called VERSANT later this year. The 2025 US Open's revamped mixed doubles tournament kicked off this Tuesday with a star-studded lineup that included the team of Carlos Alcaraz and Emma Raducanu. There was plenty of hype surrounding Alcaraz and Raducanu despite their lack of chemistry on the court. Alcaraz, 22, has been the talk of the tennis world for the past few years. The world No. 2 is already a five-time Grand Slam champion and is roughly 24 hours removed from winning the Cincinnati Masters. Raducanu, on the other hand, is slowly but surely climbing back up the WTA rankings. During the opening round of the mixed doubles tournament, Alcaraz and Raducanu squared off against Jack Draper and Jessica Pegula. They were no match for them, which makes sense considering Pegula was once the No. 1 doubles player in the world. While this Tuesday's match provided plenty of fireworks, it was Raducanu's post-match interaction with Draper that grabbed everyone's attention. Fans noticed that Raducanu didn't hug Draper after the match was over. It wouldn't have looked that awkward if Alcaraz had the same exchange with Pegula. However, they had a very friendly embrace at the net. Raducanu's interaction with Draper sparks speculation. "This can confirm they were a thing," one fan wrote on X. "Why would she hug him? The way he was acting and targeting her all match was so stupid. I'm glad she ignored," a second fan commented. "Oh no the Brits are fighting," a third fan said. "How ridiculous, she's so childish," another fan declared. With the win on Tuesday afternoon, Draper and Pegula secured a second-round match against Mirra Andreeva and Daniil Medvedev. As for Alcaraz and Raducanu, they'll now get ready for the US Open's main draw. The first round will begin on Sunday afternoon. Alcaraz has the second-best odds (+145) to win the US Open. He only trails the reigning champion, Jannik Sinner (+110). Moving over to the women's bracket, Raducanu is currently at +4000 to win it all. If she's going to recapture the magic that made her champion in 2021, she'll need to take down some of the top players in the world, such as Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek. Lansdowne Theater in Pennsylvania will reopen this week with a new mission after nearly 40 years
A historic Delaware County landmark is making a dramatic return after being closed for 38 years. The Lansdowne Theater is officially reopening on Friday, following a $20 million renovation funded through grants and private donations. The once-abandoned movie house is now a state-of-the-art concert venue, designed to breathe new life into the borough's downtown. "It was very exciting," Matt Schultz, executive director of the Historic Lansdowne Theater Corporation, said. "It was very, very scary at multiple times for lots of different reasons, but I'm glad we're coming out the other end." The theater has been standing since 1927, but it closed after a fire in 1987. Since then, it had fallen into disrepair until the community rallied behind a vision to transform it into a modern performance space with upgraded lighting, sound and new infrastructure. "We wanted to make the arts more accessible to people outside of the city," Schultz said. "And we also wanted to spur economic development throughout the business district." The theater's revival is already having an impact. Across the street, Backstage Tap + Grill recently opened its doors and its owner believes the theater's reopening signals a turning point for Lansdowne. "There's a general excitement in town about the opening and there's a real pride in the business district right now, which has been needed for a long time," Backstage Tap + Grill owner Dan Brodeur said. The first act to hit the stage will be Academy Award-nominated actor Chazz Palminteri, performing his acclaimed one-man show "A Bronx Tale." "People who love the movie A Bronx Tale will be really surprised to see, because I'm by myself and I do the whole movie on stage alone," Palminteri said. Concert promoters said the venue is already attracting attention from artists and fans across the region. "People that usually travel further to go see something may not have to do that now," Ken Alderfer, Senior VP at BRE Productions, said. "They can come here instead. So, I think that's significant." For longtime residents, the theater's grand return is the fulfillment of a promise. "I've lived here 22 years," Lansdowne resident Kymberly Hernandez said. "When I moved in, they said, 'Oh yeah, it's opening soon.' So it's nice to have it finally open." Schultz said he expects the theater to draw as many as 100,000 visitors per year, making it not only a cultural destination but a potential economic engine for Delaware County.
