Special teams to prevent strays from disturbing human remains at crash site
Ahmedabad: In the aftermath of Thursday's devastating plane crash on the medical hostel building in Meghaninagar, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has intensified efforts to secure the crash site amid concerns that human remains may have scattered across the open area.
While debris removal and search operations have continued for three days, AMC officials suspect that some remains could have been flung far from the main impact zone due to the force of the crash. In response, the civic body has deployed multiple teams to prevent stray dogs and birds from disturbing or carrying away human remains from the site and its vicinity.
"After a video surfaced showing what appeared to be a part of a human head on the road, we grew concerned that remains might have landed beyond the crash perimeter," said an AMC official on condition of anonymity.
"Stray dogs or birds like crows and vultures might reach these areas, so we are taking all necessary precautions."
Two teams, each comprising more than 12 personnel — including bouncers, police constables, AMC workers, and labourers — have been assigned to patrol the site and nearby zones.
Since Friday, efforts to capture stray dogs have been underway, with two animals already captured. In addition, areas with high bird activity are being monitored and inspected, and personnel are working to deter scavenger birds.

In a high-level response, the AMC commissioner has deployed 52 senior officers to manage site operations in three shifts.

Although a bright student throughout schooling, he never imagined pursuing anything beyond Class XII—until life changed drastically over the past three years. Getting electricity in late 2022 and a free smartphone with three years of internet access—provided to his mother under a previous state govt scheme—completely changed his life. "It extended my study hours and internet exposed me to the outside world," Shrawan told TOI. Shrawan received free NEET coaching from a group of govt doctors in Barmer, who mentor underprivileged students like him. His goal is clear — to become a doctor and serve remote rural areas like his own, where healthcare is a distant luxury. "The nearest hospital is 15km away. Most doctors posted there don't understand our Marwari dialect, which makes it hard for villagers to explain what they're going through," Shrawan explained. Asked what change he wants to see first, the teenager replies pronto: "I hate watching my father spend hours cleaning utensils and being treated poorly. Once I start earning, I'll build a pucca house and ask him to leave that job forever." For Shrawan, who has never stepped outside Barmer and Balotra, the dream of studying medicine in a different district is thrilling and overwhelming.
