Aditya Roy Kapur Came For Aashiqui 2 Audition In Shorts And Chappals, Recalls Mohit Suri
Filmmaker Mohit Suri is currently basking in the success of his recently released film Saiyaara, starring newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda. The director has often mentioned that he was about to reject Ahaan for the role of Krish Kapoor. However, his perspective changed when Ahaan let his guard down off-camera—only then did he truly see the character in him. Similarly, Mohit Suri also shared an interesting behind-the-scenes story behind casting Aditya Roy Kapur for Aashiqui 2. He recalled that the actor's casual demeanour offended his assistants, however, Suri saw something different.
While speaking with Siddharth Kannan, Mohit Suri recalled how casually Aditya Roy Kapur came for the audition of Aashiqui 2. He said that initially a nationwide talent hunt was held to discover new faces for the film. However, that turned out to be a disaster. 'Then suddenly, one of my assistants called Aditya Roy Kapur. I think Aditya didn't even know who I was. He had no idea. I think Ranbir (Kapoor) told him, 'Go meet him, he's a good director." Aditya showed up in shorts, chappals with socks, and a shirt. And while I was talking to him, he was spinning around in a revolving chair."
He further added that his assistants were 'offended' and found his behaviour unprofessional. However, Mohit Suri was convinced he saw his character Rahul Jaykar come to life. 'All my assistants were very offended, wondering what kind of behaviour this was. But in my mind, I was thinking- this guy has come here on a bike. If this same guy had arrived in a Range Rover, he would be my character, Rahul Jaykar. So I believe the best casting happens when the camera isn't rolling," said Mohit Suri.
Aashiqui 2, starring Aditya and Shraddha Kapoor, was directed by Mohit Suri and produced by Mahesh Bhatt, Mukesh Bhatt, Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar under the banners Vishesh Films and T-Series Films. The film centered around a turbulent romantic relationship between a failing singer Rahul Jaykar and aspiring singer Aarohi Keshav Shirke. The film released in 2013, and became a huge success at the box office.
