Washington's War of Words: Lebanon Pushes Back Against Ortagus' Accusations
On Friday, Morgan Ortagus, still a newcomer to the Lebanese stage, made statements expressing the clear enmity the new administration of the US government has towards Lebanon's resistance while specifically mentioning Hezbollah as the main target of accusation.
'We are grateful to our ally Israel for defeating Hezbollah,' Ortagus said during her first visit to the country.
Ortagus, in more than the former quote, designated Hezbollah and the resistance as the main reason behind the country's systematic corruption and economic failure, while even thanking the parties in the government that are 'committed to making sure that Hezbollah is not a part of this government in any form, and that Hezbollah remains disarmed and militarily defeated'.
In the same statement, she named both President Joseph Aoun and Designate Prime Minister Nawaf Salam as part of the people deserving thanks for the subtle coup she suggests is happening within the new government against the resistance. This immediately prompted the office of President Aoun to issue a statement rescinding any involvement in the deputy's suggestions, and insisting that they 'do not reflect the official position of the presidency'.

Commenting on the US diplomat's remarks, political analyst Dr. Hosam Matar described the statement as 'a blatant insult to Lebanon's sovereignty, the President of the country, and the Prime Minister-designate.'
In a post on his X account, the Lebanese researcher said about Ortagus' remarks: 'It is a dangerous call to sow discord among the Lebanese people and sabotage the chartered foundations of civil peace and partnership'.
Dr. Matar insisted that the envoy's cheap attempt at dragging the Lebanese Presidency's name into the dirt serves only to further the Zionist Prime Minister Netanyahu's goals.
This bold anti-resistance stance reflects the Trump administration's new pattern of 'shock and awe', instead of seeming like the David Star Studded Deputy's collection of personal feelings on the only military force in the region still capable of inflicting the most pain on the Zionist entity.
Following a month-long series of shocking statements and decisions from Trump that have left many US politicians including the ones in his own retinue 'mind-blown', it's no surprise that Ortagus would follow in those same footsteps and for the first time in a long time: drop the act.
US' 'Smoke and Mirror' Strategy
What we've come to expect from most US administrations is a 'smoke and mirrors' strategy that relies heavily on deception, obfuscation and honeyed words designed to encase true intentions in a veil of uncertainty. But with Trump, it so far seems to be quite the opposite, with both him and his retinue seemingly putting their true intentions directly on the table, telling listeners to just 'deal with it'.
This strategy has worked for Trump during the two successful election campaigns he had, where his often strange, offensive or even nonsensical statements and promises would attract so much attention that it would cause a surge of votes in his favor, making US citizens view him as this sort of 'champion of the people' who speaks the truth and fights for their rights, when in fact his agenda serves only the corporate lobbyists and wealthy elites of the country.
However, this strategy only worked for Trump because the US population is so used to being fed lies and half-truths that simply became the status quo for them and their media, which constantly and consistently focuses on either what makes them the most money or what they are paid to report on. Trump, in this scenario, seemed like a refreshing alternative to a people who are mostly incapable of differentiating truth from falsehood.
So far, this 'boast first, ask questions later' strategy seems to be highly agreeable with Trump's Zionist ally Benjamin Netanyahu, who has even copied his pattern of pretension by bragging about his own, more murderous conquests in the form of a golden pager set in wood, a gift to the returning president.

The Case in Lebanon
Generally though, in the case of a proud invincible people such as the resistance community in Lebanon, and in the case of the barely known easily replaceable deputy Ortagus, this strategy will never find a perch to stand on. Truth and falsehood is a concept the resistance community knows too well, and whether obvious or obfuscated, they can be relied on to stand against falsehood for the sake of truth.
For a people to struggle and suffer as much as they did, to lose so many of their precious sons and daughters and yet persist on the path of 'most' resistance, is evidence enough of their readiness to refuse any and all claims of victory made by either American or Israeli enemy, and a clear example of this is the near-instant popular mobilization of protests across the country in clear denial of the envoy's statements.

The swift public backlash and official denouncements serve as a testament to Lebanon's enduring resilience and unwillingness to accept narratives dictated by external powers. In the face of such overt hostility, the resistance and its supporters remain steadfast, proving once again that neither threats nor propaganda can alter the course of a people determined to uphold their sovereignty and dignity.

Families of Israeli Captives Say They 'Are Becoming Skin and Bone', Call for Ending Gaza War
Families of Israeli captives in Gaza and their supporters gathered in Tel Aviv on Saturday to call the Israeli government to reach a deal and end the war in the besieged strip after Palestinian resistance groups issued this week videos of captives. Hundreds of Israeli took part in a protest for the captives in Tel Aviv, where family members set up a barbed wire camp after Hamas and Islamic Jihad resistance movements released videos in recent days showing the dire condition of hostages Evyatar David and Rom Braslavski. A mother of an Israeli captive said: 'In recent days, we saw the difficult videos of Rom and Evyatar from captivity.' 'Our children are undergoing a Holocaust. Jews are becoming skin and bones because of political survival,' mother of hostage Matan Zangauker said at the protest. She referred to accusations that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is prolonging the war in Gaza to appease his far-right coalition partners and stay in power. 'If we don't free everyone now, they will not survive for much longer,' Zangauker said. Earlier on Saturday, the Israeli Hostage Family Forum called on the Israeli occupation government to reach a comprehensive deal on Gaza and end the war. 'We appeal to the Israeli government and the US administration: Look our loved ones – and us – in the eyes. The danger to their lives is tangible and immediate. The risk of losing those deceased is growing. This is the time for a comprehensive deal and an end to the war. No more delays. No more leaving them behind. Stop this nightmare and bring them out of the tunnels and home,' the statement read. Videos of Israeli Captives Hamas resistance group on Friday published a new video of captive David, a day after Palestinian Islamic Jihad published a video of captive Braslavski. The video released by Hamas compares between the Israeli captive David and a starving Palestinian kid in Gaza due to famine caused by Israeli blockade, and blames the Zionist government for the consequences of the war. Family of Israeli captive David did not grant approval for airing the video to the Israeli public, Israeli media reported, but added that the footage was shared on social media. 'Those who have seen it now understand how serious it is and the physical condition Evyatar was in,' The Times of Israel quoted sister of captive David as saying.

What's on the table in Tuesday's Cabinet session? Lebanon weighs disarmament timeline — the details
Report by Lara El Hachem, English adaptation by Karine Keuchkerian The countdown has begun for Tuesday's Cabinet session, which will resume discussions on implementing the ministerial statement—specifically the section related to extending state authority over its territory using only its own forces. The key question remains: What formula will the government adopt, and will it set a timeline for exclusive control over weapons? The final version of the proposal has not yet been completed. The Lebanese Presidency is currently working on a draft that merges elements from the ministerial statement, the presidential oath of office, and the president's Army Day speech. The draft is expected to be presented to both the prime minister and the parliament speaker. Among the proposals being considered is a government statement reaffirming its commitment to exclusive control of weapons, with implementation details to be referred to the Higher Defense Council. While the formula is still being developed, ministers affiliated with Hezbollah and the Amal Movement are not expected to boycott the session. They believe their participation is essential, given their central role in the issue. Their presence would allow them to register objections, reservations, or comments. Hezbollah is expected to argue that setting a timeline for disarmament is not in Lebanon's interest. The group believes such a move would increase external pressure on the country and that establishing a timeline without reciprocal steps from Israel would amount to political suicide. The Tom Barrack proposal, which is on the session's agenda, outlines a three-phase disarmament plan. Last-minute consultations are expected to intensify. Hezbollah is relying on President Joseph Aoun, who reportedly showed flexibility during a recent meeting with MP Mohammad Raad and acknowledged the sensitivity of the situation, which requires careful handling. Ahead of what is expected to be a tense session, Lebanese officials were surprised by reports that the Lebanon file may have been transferred from U.S. envoy Tom Barrack to Morgan Ortagus. Although Lebanese officials have not officially confirmed the reports, some sources expressed concern about the relevance of discussing the U.S. envoy's proposal in the Cabinet if Barrack is no longer overseeing the file. Other sources noted, however, that Ortagus never fully relinquished the Lebanon file.

Lebanese branch of Transparency International calls for justice for Aug. 4 victims
As the fifth anniversary of the Beirut port double explosion on Aug. 4, 2020, approaches, the Lebanon branch of the organization Transparency International has issued a statement calling for justice for the victims and their families. "On this day, with its wound still gaping in the collective memory of the Lebanese people, and despite five years marked by obstruction, interference and hindrances to the judicial process, we affirm that justice for the victims and for the nation starts under the arch of the court and is achieved by establishing a state governed by the rule of law, based on rights and freedoms and putting an end to impunity," the association said in a statement. "The independence and integrity of the judiciary are essential conditions for guaranteeing accountability and justice. Our commitment to this principle is non-negotiable, especially in the face of the ongoing paralysis of the investigation and attempts to obstruct or derail it through political pressures and interference," the text continued. The investigation led by the investigative judge at the Court of Justice, Tarek Bitar, was relaunched last January after two years of political and judicial hindrances. The statement added: "The reconstruction of a new Lebanon cannot succeed until citizens' trust in their institutions is restored and until those responsible for the destruction of the capital and the loss of human life are held accountable." Transparency International also stressed the need for "transparent judicial appointments, fighting corruption and a comprehensive and independent reform of the judiciary." On Thursday, Parliament passed an organizational law aimed at freeing justice in Lebanon from political interference and strengthening its independence. Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said Friday evening on X that he had signed the decree on judicial appointments that afternoon. The association also highlighted the role of the REHUB platform ( which provides a real-time dashboard to monitor reform progress and publish official documents, "thus enabling citizens and the media to monitor the performance of authorities and have a concrete tool to strengthen transparency and accountability."
