The Boeing aircraft, operating as IX 110, had already experienced a 20-minute delay at the airport. Originally scheduled for a 6.20 am departure, the flight took off at 6.40 am but returned by 6.57 am.

The aircraft had reached an altitude between 5,000 and 10,000 feet when the crew identified the snag, necessitating an immediate return.
GMR authorities told TOI that Air India arranged for an alternative flight for the passengers which reached Phuket at 11.45 am.
'Safety of flyers our top priority'
Airport officials added that after take-off, the pilots noticed the technical issue at 6.49 am. "The crew elected to return out of an abundance of caution. An alternative aircraft was arranged, and the flight has since departed.
We regret the inconvenience caused and reiterate that safety remains our top priority in every aspect of our operations," said an Air India Express spokesperson.
A month ago, a Tirupati-bound flight from Hyderabad had faced a similar situation. On June 19, a SpiceJet aircraft carrying 80 passengers had returned 10 minutes after departure due to intermittent illumination of baggage door light.

A SpiceJet spokesperson told TOI, "The claim that passengers were informed about the revised departure time only after reaching the airport is factually incorrect. All passengers were duly informed of the schedule change well in advance via email and SMS at 2.30pm. The flight departed as per its revised timing. Additionally, dinner was served to all passengers at the airport.

NEW DELHI: An Air India Express pilot abruptly halted the flight when it was about to take-off from the Delhi airport to Mumbai on Wednesday (July 23) night and returned to the parking bay. This marks the second time this week that a flight from the stable of the Air India Group aborted take-off at the last minute – an Air India flight from Delhi to Kolkata had done it on Monday. Air India Express is a subsidiary of Air India. IX 1163, an Airbus A320 model, was scheduled to take off from Terminal 3 around 9:30 pm when the incident occurred. Passengers were deplaned and sent by an alternative flight three hours later. According to a passenger, 'The flight came to a sudden and hard stop before it returned to the bay. It looked like a major mishap had been averted. There was a lack of clear communication from the crew to the passengers, causing much anxiety,' he added. Video and pics shared online about the incident showed passengers worried inside the aircraft and later alighting from the plane. An official statement from Air India Express said, 'The crew of one of our flights from Delhi elected to reject take-off prioritising safety following a manor technical issue. Guests were de-boarded and accommodated in an alternative aircraft which was arranged on priority and has since departed.' The statement added, 'We regret the inconvenience while reiterating that safety remains paramount in all our operations.'

SpiceJet to induct five Boeing 737 aircraft
NEW DELHI: SpiceJet has finalised a lease agreement to induct five Boeing 737 aircraft into its fleet by October 2025. This is scheduled ahead of the commencement of the winter schedule and will cater to the peak winter season as well as the early summer season of 2026 'The aircraft are being inducted on a damp lease basis, where operational crew will be shared between the operator and SpiceJet,' said an official release. SpiceJet is also in advanced discussions with other lessors to further enhance its fleet and strengthen both domestic and international operations. This fleet addition is part of the airline's broader strategy to bolster capacity ahead of the winter schedule and cater to increased travel demand during the peak and early summer seasons, the release added. Debojo Maharshi, Chief Business Officer, SpiceJet, said, 'We are pleased to finalise this lease agreement for the induction of five Boeing 737 aircraft. This addition will significantly strengthen our fleet and enable us to deliver a superior flying experience to our passengers. We are actively exploring further fleet additions as we prepare for a robust winter schedule.'
