Andhra Pradesh unveils plans to lead in quantum technologies and artificial intelligence
Vijayawada: Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu said that Andhra Pradesh's quantum mission should lead the way in quantum technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) in the country.
He stated that Amaravati's Quantum Valley should be designed in such a way that it will gain a distinct identity akin to Silicon Valley. Naidu held a meeting with experts from the IT sector and sought inputs from them for developing Quantum Valley ecosystem in Amaravati.
Naidu announced that a workshop on the 'quantum mission' will be held in Vijayawada on June 30. Stressing the importance of meticulous attention to every aspect of Quantum valley's development, he directed officials to ensure that the proposed building becomes an iconic structure.
Drawing a parallel, he said just as Hyderabad's Hi-Tech city building, which once stood out as a symbol of progress, the upcoming Quantum Valley in Amaravati must become equally iconic.
The Quantum Valley is being set up with Rs 4,000 crore in two phases. The state's quantum mission aims to position Andhra Pradesh as a hub of quantum innovation, strengthen the knowledge economy, and become a key partner in the national quantum mission.

Government tells court RCB's relentless tweeting resulted in Bengaluru stampede
Bengaluru: The state govt on Monday pinned the blame squarely on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) IPL franchise for the stampede outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4 that killed 11 people and left 75 others injured. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Referring to successive tweets put out by RCB on the day of the incident, Karnataka govt told the high court those tweets led to a huge public gathering in the city. Appearing for the state govt and police, advocate general (AG) Shashikiran Shetty submitted that while the team was still in Ahmedabad after winning the IPL final, RCB put out multiple tweets, declaring they would hold a victory rally in Bengaluru — without obtaining any permission from the govt. Additional state public prosecutor B N Jagadeesh, too, raised the same point in his submission before the court. Shetty further said the franchise had invited all and sundry in its subsequent tweets to attend the victory celebrations, with 13 crore people viewing those tweets. While arrangements were made for an estimated turnout of about 1.5 lakh people, the actual turnout was much larger primarily because of those tweets. Earlier, senior advocate Sandesh Chouta, appearing for Nikhil Sosale, the marketing and revenue head of RCB, argued that Sosale's arrest was illegal. According to him, Sosale was arrested by Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths and not by Cubbon Park police who had registered the case. He wondered how CCB came into the picture when the govt had handed over the probe to CID. Referring to verbal directives issued by chief minister Siddaramaiah to arrest officials of RCB and DNA Entertainment Ltd, Chouta said such orders cannot be issued since the investigation falls under the domain of the police. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now In view of Chouta's claim, Justice SR Krishna Kumar questioned the state govt whether the CM had indeed issued any such instruction. Responding to the judge's observation that "At best, the CM could say that 'the accused would be arrested in accordance with law'," the AG said he would verify that. Opposing grant of any interim relief to RCB, the AG further claimed that petitioners RCB made more than Rs 450 crore from IPL. "They announced some Rs 10 lakh compensation. They did not bother to care about those who lost their lives and suffered injuries. They did not bother to visit those families," he added while pointing out that granting any interim relief is akin to granting final relief, which would seriously affect the ongoing investigation. The hearing was adjourned to Tuesday.

9.39 crore solution to Uttam Nagar waterlogging problem
Ahmedabad: The city civic body has allocated Rs 9.39 crore for projects to address waterlogging in Maninagar ward's Uttam Nagar area. The area is among the 157 identified 'trouble' spots during monsoon. At a meeting of AMC's water and sewerage committee on Monday, a proposal to build a 900mm gravity line and a new stormwater pumping station at a cost of Rs 7.46 crore to tackle waterlogging at Uttam Nagar was approved. Moreover, a 600mm stormwater line will be laid to pump water from this spot to Kharicut Canal through Avkar Hall area. Furthermore, Rs 1.93 crore was approved for desilting all drainage lines in Maninagar ward, taking the total cost to Rs 9.39 crore. However, civic body sources said that despite the allocation, this monsoon will not be hassle-free for people of this area. More than 10 significant waterlogging spots have been identified in 200m to 1km radius of Chandola lake, and among them is the area near Mahavir School crossroads in Isanpur. A 600mm stormwater line will be laid to connect this spot to the lake for Rs 1.83 crore. AMC's standing committee had okayed the project proposal on Oct 24 last year. Additionally, AMC approved a proposal to install a rainwater harvesting structure with eco-blocks on Bandhan Triangle Road near SG Road in the Sola area of Gota ward for Rs 13 crore. More than seven waterlogging spots were identified by AMC in all zonal offices, sub-zonal offices, ward offices, hospitals, and schools in the Vasna and Navrangpura wards of the city. It has been decided to lay stormwater lines at a cost of Rs 216 crore to resolve the waterlogging issues at 10 spots in Vejalpur, Vasna, and Navrangpura. A Rs 36.27 crore project for a stormwater line from Makraba police headquarters to the Sabarmati via Fatehwadi Canal was also okayed. A proposal to lay stormwater drains using micro-tunneling from Manekbaug to Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee; from Jaydeep Tower to Malav Lake, and from downstream Vasna Barrage to Fatehwadi Canal for Rs 180.17 crore was also approved.

CBI arrests UP CGST superintendent in bribery case
CGST superintendent Nishan Singh Malli had allegedly issued penalty notice to a businessman, who controls the private company, on account of non-filing of GST returns. The other person arrested by the agency is a tax lawyer who was representing the complainant in the case, they said. New Delhi, Jun 9 (PTI) The CBI has arrested two persons, including a superintendent of Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) in Uttar Pradesh, while allegedly accepting bribe of Rs 1 lakh for waiving off penalty on a private company, officials said Monday. Malli, who is posted at Gajrola with additional charge of Amroha in UP, demanded Rs 4 lakh in collusion with tax lawyer Amit Khandelwal from the businessman for waiving off penalty on his company, they said. 'The tax advocate was representing the complainant. However, he entered into a conspiracy with superintendent, CGST, Amroha and pressured the complainant to deliver the demand of undue advantage of Rs 4 lakh to the accused superintendent,' a CBI spokesperson said. The businessman approached the CBI with a complaint expressing unwillingness to pay the bribe, the spokesperson said in a statement. The agency laid a trap during which the superintendent and the advocate were arrested red handed taking Rs 1 lakh as the first instalment of the total Rs 4 lakh demanded as bribe, the statement said.
