The festival beauty essentials you need for Glastonbury, Download and more
As well as non-negotiable essentials like tents, sleeping bags, SPF and camping chairs, your checklist shouldn't neglect the little luxuries that can make camping in a field for four days slightly more bearable (hello air beds, your favourite pillow, earplugs or Hunter wellington boots à la Kate Moss and Alexa Chung).
While the less high maintenance among us might get by with just a toothbrush and baby wipes (no judgement here), others require a little more TLC in the camping field.
From cordless hair tools and dry shampoo to give some oomph to three-day old locks to instant tan or tinted SPF's for coverage and UV protection, there's a host of beauty essentials that can make your time in a tent a whole lot smoother (particularly when you're limited to shared showers and portaloos with no privacy).
To help ensure you don't forget anything, we've rounded up the beauty essentials you need for your next festival (after all, we can't all glamp in a luxury bell tent with the A-listers).
Your usual skincare regime will likely be neglected while your camping in a festival field. Streamline your routine to just Garnier's miscellar water for removing make-up and cleansing. Complete with reusable eco pads, the gentle formula cleanses skin without stripping it of moisture. A festival make-up bag hero.
While a cordless hair tool may not be deemed an 'essential', it can certainly make the experience a lot nicer. Adding texture and life back into three-day old hair, BaByliss's cordless waving tool creates soft, loose waves for an effortlessly tousled look (even if you haven't showered in a while).
Charlotte Tilbury's airbrush setting spray is a cult classic for good reason. Keeping make-up in place for up to 16 hours, you can apply in the morning and still look fresh in the dance tent at 2am. The water-like formula is packed with skin-loving ingredients (think aloe vera, hydrating Japanese green tea and resin) to prevent clogged pores and avoid your make-up settling into fine lines. You're sure to appreciate the fresh, floral fragrance on day three in the field, too.
One of our favourite face SPFs for 2025, CeraVe's facial moisturising lotion ticks every box. The consistency is more like a traditional moisturiser, though it isn't sticky or greasy on skin. 'You're left with is a healthy-looking glow, and I love how make-up wears on top of this formula, and the finish of it means it makes a great primer,' our beauty reviewer said. 'Plus, like all CeraVe products, it's bolstered with hardworking ingredients that nourish, protect and hydrate your skin.' A non-negotiable for festival season that saves you packing both a moisturiser and SPF.
No festival beauty haul is complete without dry shampoo. Unlike other formulas, Living Proof's dry shampoo actually cleans hair while eliminating oil, sweat and odor (perfect for camping in a field). Freshening up your tresses between washes thanks to the brand's triple-action cleaning technology, it releases a fragrance that lingers throughout the day.
Whether it's a day event or camping affair, you're far more exposed to the sun at a festival than your usual day-to-day, making a body SPF an essential. Offering 12 hours of hydration, Hawaiian Tropic's body SPF is powered by cocoa and shea butter. 'It's not sticky or greasy; it sinks in quickly and leaves the skin feeling supple and nourished,' our beauty expert said in their review. At less than £10, the dual purpose formula is pleasingly affordable, protecting your skin from UV's rays during a long day dancing in the sun.
If you need a quick wipe down and freshen up, then baby wipes are a handy addition to your festival arsenal (especially if the showers aren't up to scratch). This Pampers pack promises to nourish, soften and hydrate skin. Plus, there's 52 wipes inside meaning you can easily share a pack among friends.
Burning your lips is never fun, particularly at a festival. Enter Ultrasun's ultralip balm. The SPF30 formula is designed specifically to protect your lips from UV rays while moisturising any dryness. Fragrance free and sheer, it can be used over lipstick or gloss and topped up throughout the day.

Something prehistoric lies under this huge Welsh headland
Something prehistoric lies under this huge Welsh headland Under this heather clad headland lie miles of eerie tunnels and hidden passageways Rising above the traditional seaside town of Llandudno, the Great Orme is a striking limestone headland (Image: Getty) Rising above the traditional seaside town of Llandudno, the Great Orme is a striking limestone headland with a prehistoric story buried beneath its heather-clad slopes. In the 12th Century, the Welsh poet Gwalchmai ap Meilyr referred to it as Cyngreawdr Fynydd. Its English name, 'Great Orme,' comes from the Old Norse word for sea serpent, likely inspired by the headland's curving, serpentine shape as it juts into the sea. While the two-mile-long Great Orme is best known for its vintage tram and spectacular views from the 679ft (207m) summit, it has a hidden history you might not be aware of. This nature reserve headland is home to miles of underground copper mines, estimated to have produced enough copper to make nearly 2,000 tons of bronze. Great Orme Copper Mines in Llandudno (Image: David Powell) Over five miles of explored tunnels and passageways are here. In 2005, the Guinness World Records Team awarded them the title of 'The Largest Prehistoric Copper Mines in the World'. According to Historic UK, there were two main phases of mining here. The mine was first worked during the Bronze Age, around 4000 years ago, about the same time as Stonehenge was being built. The entrance to the Bronze Age Copper Mine on the Great Orme, Llandudno (Image: North Wales Weekly News) Back then, the miners used granite stone hammers brought up from the beach and animal bone to dig away at the copper ore. Most of the ore was malachite, a green mineral used in other parts of the world as eye make-up or paint; however, blue azurite, gold chalcopyrite, and even native copper may have been mined. Mining there resumed in the late 18th Century, producing a byzantine network of tunnels that plunged through the rock to sea level. While the mine was financially successful, it was constantly flooded. Eventually, the mines fell into disuse as coastal Llandudno became known more as a Victorian seaside resort than an industrial mining town. At the end of the 19th Century, the mine was covered up and forgotten about until the 1980s. The ancient maze of claustrophobic passageways filled with old mining tools and animal bones was discovered in 1987 during a landscaping scheme and has redefined perceptions of ancient Britain. Great Orme Bronze Age Copper Mine was mined 3,500 years ago. (Image: Daily Post Wales) Miles of tunnels, passageways, and caverns wind through nine different subterranean levels and have been partly explored by mining engineers, cavers, and archaeologists. These intrepid explorers have been slowly uncovering more tunnels and large areas of the surface landscape to reveal what is now thought to be the largest prehistoric mine ever discovered in the world. Many of the tunnels are extremely narrow, leading experts to believe that young children probably mined some of them. For almost 40 years, the Great Orme Exploration Society (GOES) has been learning more about Llandudno's world-famous copper mines, including those underneath the Great Orme and the Ty Gwyn Copper Mine, opened in 1835 and producing ore worth £93,000 for over 12 years, but due to flooding, it closed in the 1850s. The Great Orme Copper Mines in Conwy (Image: deadmanjones (Creative Commons)) The Daily Post reports that GOES volunteers cleared an old rockfall in a ventilation shaft and hope to continue working towards the 300-foot-long Tyn y Fron shaft, which has been shut off for many years by another blockage. Opening up this part of the mine, still largely unexplored, was a key goal of the society when it was formed in 1985. Many of the tunnels are blocked off, but the society and volunteers constantly make discoveries in the accessible tunnels. Scores of artefacts have been recovered, from old Bovril jars to clay pipes and cow horns that held the black gunpowder used for blasting rock. The Orme Copper Mines (Image: John Lawson) Mine boots and clogs have been found in a corner, often near the end of a level being driven when the mine was abandoned. Bottles are commonplace, including one made by a Ruthin soda water company in the 1870s. In 2002, cavers also discovered a Bronze Age chamber containing 30 animal bone tools and over a dozen stone hammers untouched by human hand for millennia. While some sections of this historic mine are closed to the public, a section is open for self-guided tours as part of the Bronze Age mining experience that the kiddos will love. Here, you can imagine what conditions might have been like for miners back then in low-lit, tiny tunnels that were at risk of flooding. It's followed by a surface walk around the smelting shelter and opencast mine, the oldest part of the site, mined over 4,000 years ago. The 200m underground and dog-friendly visitor route takes you down two levels of the mine, accessed via a series of slopes and staircases. The temperature in the mine varies between 5°C and 8°C, so make sure you wrap up before you head down this historic mine. Kids will love the Great Orme Mine (Image: PM Photography) Make sure to pop into the visitor centre, which has a model of a village depicting life in the Bronze Age. You can also look at original 4,000-year-old Bronze Age artefacts and a selection of Bronze Age mining tools. Current ticket prices are £33.50 for a family ticket, and more information can be found on their website. Article continues below

Love Island finalist is ‘producer plant' claim fans after spotting FIVE clues
LOVE Island fans are convinced one show star is a "producer plant" just hours before the show final. They have claimed the ITV2 show hunk - who is battling it out for the £50k cash prize in tonight's final - "feels off" with a series of behaviour traits. 6 6 6 Now Barnsley-born Ty Isherwood has been put under the spotlight by a variety of eagle-eyed Love Island fans. The 23-year-old entered proceedings at the Casa Amor stage and coupled up with Shakira, with the pair then being voted the most compatible by the public. Yet a few days later, after briefly being coupled up with Lauren, he found a spark with Angel when she ranked him as her number one boy. Despite the duo appearing to go from strength to strength, a portion of fans are hugely sceptical about his place on the show. One took to Reddit to outline their view that the site engineer has been placed in the villa by show bosses and said: "Okay, hear me out. I genuinely think Ty might be a producer plant. "Just my POV, but there are too many things that feel off." They then outlined five reasons why this may be the case and argued: "Starting from Casa — he didn't seem to care much whether he ended up with Helena or Shakira. (Yes, maybe he just wanted to secure a spot, but the indifference felt too flat.). "When Shakira and Ty did the voting to dump a couple he just agreed with whatever Shakira said. "Then when Shakira dumped him for Conor, there was zero reaction. He was just suddenly was okay with Lauren." For the fourth reason, they continued: "Then, just as he's settling with Lauren, boom — Angel enters, and suddenly he dumps Lauren like a formality." Love Island's Ty kisses with his eyes open They then wrapped their argument and put: "And through all of this, no real emotional depth, no strong connections, and almost no air time. "It honestly seems like he's just going with whatever the producers lay out for him. He hasn't actively pursued anyone. No spark, no persuasion — just vibes and scripted transitions. "I feel like they brought in Angel mostly for Harry — and to stir things up. Ty would have been so cool to re-couple with Helena, especially since they didn't during Casa. Anyone else feel like something's off?" Fans were quick to respond to the wild claim. Another replied: "He's just not as attention seeking as other guys. All of them and none of them are producer plants. They are all told what to do by producers." A third then wrote: "I mean this would align with the fact Ty was on the dry run (where he both met and slept with Lauren before the show). "You definitely could be going somewhere with this but I'm unsure how much manipulation the producers can realistically do." COUPLE DOUBT The claims came after fans already had doubts about how committed Angel was to Ty. Eyebrows were raised as Ty asked Angel if they could 'go exclusive' – essentially making them boyfriend/girlfriend in all but name – yet her reaction left viewers believing there's doubt in place for Angel. Throw in their differing lifestyles, and some are thinking that they could already be on the way out. A Reddit poster explained: 'Hear me out. Angel is a fairly big Instagram influencer, who if you look at her instagram seems to be all about the boujee life. 'Her entire feed is her hanging with super stunning models all with huge followings on yachts in Spain, ski trips in the French Alps, constant trips to Dubai and seems to be living a pretty expensive glamorous life.' 'Ty is a sweetheart but does seem just like a genuine working class guy from a normal background,' they added. 'Absolutely nothing wrong with that, I just find it hard to believe this is the type of guy Angel is genuinely interested in with the lifestyle she projects on Instagram.' Other fans are convinced the duo had a connection before the show even started, while others were left confused by Ty's kissing technique. The remaining couples still in the villa and battling it out in the final are: Ty and Angel, Toni and Cach, Shakira and Harry, and Yasmin and Jamie. Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2. 6 6 6

Under-fire Love Islanders Meg and Dejon make massive change to social media after being axed from villa
AFTER being dumped from the Love Island villa last night, Dejon Noel-Williams and Meg Moore have made a big change to their social media since being back on the outside world. The pair have been subject to plenty of criticism from their fellow islanders and ITV2 viewers over the past few weeks and have now turned off their comments on social media. 4 4 This means that fans will not be able to comment on their posts on Instagram and share their opinions of them. The move comes after fans revealed they don't think the pair will last on the outside world and will split up straight away. Taking to X, one viewer penned: 'Lmaoo they aren't lasting outside the villa. Meg is gon bite off Dej's head and blame him for their dump #LoveIsland." Another commented: 'Dejon will dump Meg yards from the front door #loveisland." While a third added: '#LoveIsland Dejon and Meg are definitely NOT going to last on the outside. He'll dump her within days." However, the couple clearly don't agree with the viewers' sentiments and revealed their plan to 'prove everyone wrong'. When asked what was next for the pair, Meg responded: 'Proving to everyone we are actually going to stay together! 'Spending time together and introducing one another to family and friends.' Dejon, who apologised for his behaviour, echoed her words, adding: 'I definitely want to have a conversation with her family, get to know them and have her meet my family so they can see the real us. 'A lot of the Islanders saw how genuine we were and I have no doubt it will be like that with our families. Love Island OG's Meg and Dejon DUMPED by returning islanders 'After that, hopefully we can move in together as I can't imagine not living with her.' Meg and Dejon, who got into an argument this week, were voted out after former islanders delivered their brutal verdict by returning for a face-to-face vote. Viewers watched as the ex-Islanders stood up to give their reasons on why Dejon and Meg weren't compatible. After much back and forth, Meg and Dejon received 10 votes, while Angel and Ty received 8 votes. Some branded their romance as "staged" and expressed doubt about the authenticity of Dejon's feelings - after repeatedly insisting he was 'open.' And some fellow Islanders accused Dejon of "game playing" and wanting to appear genuine just for the cameras. Maya Jama also called him out for his behaviour and even took a brutal dig at Dejon, saying: "Dejon you're obviously very aware of the cameras." The two paired up from day one but found themselves at loggerheads due to Dejon's flirty antics with numerous bombshells throughout the series. They went exclusive just days after he returned from Casa Amor and shortly after, Dejon asked Meg to be his girlfriend, making them the only couple from this series to make it to this step in their relationship. In tonight's final, Jamie and Yasmin, Cach and Toni, Harry and Shakira and Ty and Angel will battle it out to be crowned this year's winners and take home the £50,000 cash prize. 4 4
