Nepo baby Nico Parker wows in a strapless bandage mini dress at How To Train Your Dragon premiere in NYC

Daily Mail12-06-2025
Nepo baby Nico Parker looked incredible in a LBD as she attended the How To Train Your Dragon premiere at SVA Theatre in New York on Wednesday.
The daughter of Emmy winner Thandiwe Newton, 52, and writer/director Ol Parker, 56, was the epitome of chic in the bandage black dress.
Nico plays Astrid, who was depicted as a young blonde Viking in the 2010 animated version of the film as well as its sequels.
The actress teamed her stunning ensemble with chunky earrings and elevated her frame with stylish black heels.
Nico hit back at critics objecting to her taking on the lead role in How To Train Your Dragon.

After some fans took umbrage with Nico - who is of Zimbabwean descent through her mother - not having Astrid's 's original blonde hair and blue eyes, she slammed trolls 'hating inclusivity' and having an 'opinion on her hair'.
'There's some people that really love the animated movies and really want to see an exact play-by-play of that film, and I hope that you can watch [the new version] and find something that you love about it, regardless,' Nico said in an interview with T he London Times.
'But for the people that just hate inclusivity, hate change — when it comes to that side of things, I just don't care,' she asserted.
'If I wouldn't value your opinion on most things in life,' and getting to the root of some of the backlash she's received added, 'I can't value your opinion on my hair. If I did, I would go mad.'
Nico, who was brought up in London, said seeing other people of colour on screen was useful.
'When I was younger, the amount of mixed race or black icons, people that I would look to on screen to be like, "Oh, this feels like me," felt really minimal in comparison to what it could be for young people now, and I think that's really special,' she told the outlet.
'There's still a long way to go — for women in general, in terms of new parts, original material and female-led stories. But I think that everything's changing. I'd like to think that I could contribute to that change at some point.'
In the 2010 animated How to Train Your Dragon and the 2014 and 2019 sequels Astrid was voiced by Latina actress America Ferrera.
Nico's first role was in Disney's live-action Dumbo, which she said she auditioned for on a whim.
'By the time we got on set [in 2017], I remember being, like, "This is what I want to do all the time.:' she said of her 12-year-old self.
Since then she has gone on to star in Reminiscence and Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy.
One role, a two episode run in The Last of US, was a special experience for her, and she had high praise for star Pedro Pascal.
'He is one of the best people ever. He really is as special as you think he would be. I was 16 when I filmed The Last of US and it was a bit of a weird time of life in general, and I feel like I came into the job on a bit of an odd footing. I don't have enough words to describe how grateful I am that he was there.'
How to Train Your Dragon is expected to fly to the top of the box office after it's released on Friday. The action-adventure stars Mason Thames, 17, as Hiccup, with Gerard Butler reprising his role as his blusterous dad Stoick.
'I remember seeing how many views the trailer got and I was, like, "What is happening?" To me, I think for everyone who grew up with the films, it feels very personal,' she said.
Based on the performance of the three previous films, the reimagined version is expected to pull in somewhere between $80 million and $100 million domestically according to Box Office Pro.
Universal Pictures has already announced a sequel to the anticipated blockbuster. 'They announced a release date and I was like, "Well, that's quite soon,"' Parker said.

Country music star reveals devastating health scare that has put her shows in jeopardy

Country music star Ashley McBryde has revealed a devastating health scare that has now put her shows in jeopardy. The 42-year-old singer begins her residency in Nashville on October 14 - but it seems that she needs time to heal ahead of her performances. On August 6, the songwriter posted a video to her socials announcing - via written word on a notepad - that she has damaged her vocal cords. 'Hi guys so... I hurt my throat,' the first card read. 'So no talking if I want to be able to sing to you.' She then went on to write that it is a great opportunity to practice American Sign Language (ASL). McBryde signed out examples like 'Hi! Nice to meet you' and 'Good to see you!' 'That way we don't have to cancel meet and greets. Let's try together,' she wrote on the next card, and then flashed the ASL signals for 'Let's try together.' McBryde's vocal issues come at a time when she's preparing for her residency in Nashville Throughout the entirety of the video, someone else used an exaggerated voice to read McBryde's cards aloud. In the caption for the video, McBryde wrote: 'Trybe, doc says I'm working on busted up vocal cords. 'The last thing I wanna do is cancel any meet greets or Heaven forbid SHOWS. So let's try this for this week!' And though fans are disappointed that some of their meet and greets will be more of just 'meets,' they have shown support for the singer in her comments. 'Oh sweet Ashley. Take care of that voice. We all love it so!' one fan commented. Some even applauded the singer for remaining dedicated to continuing to see her fanbase. 'You could definitely cancel these due to the situation and you're not. That shows just how much you care!' another fan said. Other fans used humor to express their care. 'Can't sing but you can write. I expect a new album out of this debacle. Get well soon,' one fan wrote followed by a laughing emoji. The healing time for damaged vocal chords can vary greatly, depending on how bad the damage is. But typically injuries can resolve themselves within a week or two with measure like voice-rest - which McBryde seems dedicated to trying. So depending on how disciplined she - and her fans - remain with sticking to ASL, her vocal chords could be all healed up and ready for her residency ahead of time.

James Patterson to write book about Luigi Mangione

Bestselling crime writer James Patterson and investigative journalist Vicky Ward are writing a book on the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, while actor Dave Franco said this week that he would be 'open' to playing accused murderer Luigi Mangione in a biopic if one were to be made. Mangione is currently awaiting trial for the murder of Thompson, who was shot and killed in Manhattan on 4 December last year. 'This is a story about the American Dream Gone Wrong,' said Patterson in a statement on the book, which does not yet have a title or release date. 'It's also a story of one young man's descent from Ivy League graduate to notorious accused killer to so-called political martyr.' Mangione, 27, has pleaded not guilty to federal charges of murder, using a weapon with a silencer, and two counts of stalking. The US attorney general, Pam Bondi, said earlier this year that she had directed federal prosecutors to seek the death penalty. 'Like millions around the world, Vicky and I were riveted by coverage of the five-day manhunt from Midtown Manhattan to Altoona, Pennsylvania,' Patterson said. Mangione was eventually arrested in a McDonald's. 'This story touches all of us,' said Ward. 'It goes to the heart of the social, cultural and political issues dividing the US right now. Nothing is more of a reviled black box than the health insurance industry, and it's time to open it up, through a crime that has caught the attention of the country.' The book will be published by Little, Brown in the US, which also published The Idaho Four, Patterson and Ward's recent book on the murder of four students. The news comes in the same week that Franco said he would be open to playing Mangione in a biopic when asked on the talkshow Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen on Tuesday. 'No one has approached me about it yet, I'll say that … More people in my life reached out about this exact thing than anything else that has ever happened. Let's just say I am open if it's the right people, and let's leave it at that.' Literary delights delivered direct to you after newsletter promotion After the shooting, Mangione gained an avalanche of support on social media. The online fandom has sparked criticism for glorifying an alleged murderer. 'The suspect, who police now believe to be Mangione, was a fit young man and I think it'd be mistaken to overlook the degree that likely propelled the story,' Jared Holt, a senior research analyst at the Institute for Strategic Dialogue, told the Guardian in December. 'The other feature of Mangione is one that plays an outsized role in every single point of American life: his race,' wrote Ben Makuch in the Guardian at the time. 'If he were Black or Latino, this story would likely have played out very differently.'
