Gaza rescuers say 33 killed by Israel fire

GAZA CITY: Gaza's civil defence agency said 33 people were killed by Israeli fire in the Palestinian territory on Wednesday, including 11 who were seeking aid.
Civil defence spokesman Mahmud Bassal told AFP that 11 people were killed and more than 100 wounded 'after the occupation forces opened fire and launched several shells... at thousands of citizens' who had gathered to queue for food in central Gaza.
The military told AFP that its forces operating in central Gaza identified 'a group of suspicious individuals' approaching 'in a manner that posed a potential threat to the forces.'
It said its troops then fired 'warning shots', but that it was 'unaware of injuries'.

Death toll from Russian attack on Kyiv tops 28

Rescuers in Kyiv were on Wednesday sifting through the rubble and pulling bodies from destroyed apartment blocks after a major Russian attack on the Ukrainian capital a day earlier. The city's mayor and emergency services said the missile and drone strikes had killed at least 28 people in one of the most deadly attacks on Kyiv since Russia invaded more than three years ago. More than 130 people were also wounded. AFP journalists saw rescue workers in helmets carrying victims in body bags out of the blown-out main door of a residential building. Construction machinery was being used to scoop up the rubble. "Currently, 28 Kyiv residents are confirmed dead. Rescue workers are still working at the sites of destruction," Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on social media. The state emergency services gave the same toll, saying 23 of those killed were in a single nine-storey building.
