Capacity building programme to hone communicative English skills
As part of the training, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the APSWREIS with Kotak Education Foundation (KEF) for implementation of the Communicative English - Future Readiness (CE-FR) programme from the academic year 2025-26 in Dr. BR Ambedkar Gurukulams. The initiative aims to cover students from Classes 5 to 8 in a phased manner.
Also, in connection with the CE-FR programme, a three-day residential capacity building programme is organised for English teachers in Visakhapatnam.
The programme that continues till May 5 (Monday), has been witnessing an encouraging participation.
Kotak Education Foundation (KEF), the CSR implementing agency of Kotak Mahindra Group, announced the rollout of its flagship teacher capacity-building programme 'Kshamata' in Andhra Pradesh, alongside the launch of its one KEF App for teachers and school leaders.
Designed to empower teachers with enhanced pedagogical techniques, English communication skills, a growth-oriented mindset and strong leadership capabilities, the Kshamata programme in Andhra Pradesh will be operational across all 186 APSWREIS (Andhra Pradesh Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutional Society) schools and 108 MJPAPBCWREIS (Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Andhra Pradesh Backward Classes Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society) schools.

Veteran epigraphist honoured with Tamil Wiki Thooran Award in Erode
Renowned epigraphist and archaeologist V. Vedachalam (75) was honoured with the Tamil Wiki Periyasamy Thooran Award 2025 here on Saturday (August 16, 2025). At a function organised by the Vishnupuram Literary Circle at Kavundachipalayam on Chennimalai Road, he received the award, which carried a cash prize of ₹2 lakh and a sculpture. Instituted in 2022 in memory of Periyasamy Thooran, creator of the Tamil Encyclopedia, the award is presented to Tamil scholars who have made notable contributions to culture and literature. Accepting the award, Mr. Vedachalam said he had completed a 50-year journey in the field, including 33 years in the State Department of Archaeology. 'After my retirement, I wrote 10 books so that my experiences could be shared. With the support of my family and well-wishers, I travelled across the country to archaeological sites and visited 24 countries of historical significance. This award is a recognition of my contribution,' he said. Felicitating him, senior epigraphist Y. Subbarayalu credited Mr. Vedachalam as the driving force behind the Keezhadi excavations. Speaking about the site, he said that while exaggerated reports had often emerged, the excavation held undeniable significance. 'Any excavation must be carried out with patience, inch by inch, layer by layer, so that artefacts unearthed at different levels can be studied together to establish their antiquity,' he said. Archaeologist Vasant Shinde, in his felicitation, said Mr. Vedachalam's contributions must be widely recognised. Writer B. Jeyamohan said it was their dream to establish an English-language publishing house and bring out Tamil works in London, a project already in progress.

‘Gift of Vikramaditya': Eighth copper plates set deciphered
HYDERABAD: The eighth set in a series of nine recently discovered copper plate inscriptions in Kodad village of Suryapet district was examined. The 10-century copper plate, which was issued by Vengi Chalukya king Vikramaditya II, is now preserved at the Heritage department. The inscription, written in Sanskrit using Telugu script, is dated to Saka 848 (corresponding to February 24, 927 CE, a Saturday), according to Archaeological Survey of India Director (Epigraphy) K Muniratnam Reddy. It was issued by King Vikramaditya II, son of Chalukya Bhima I and Vijayamahadevi. The royal seal features a boar (Varaha) emblem with the legend 'Sri Tribhuvanamkusa.' The inscription outlines the Chalukya dynasty's genealogy from Kubja Vishnuvardhana to Vikramaditya II. It notes that the king granted the village of Annasiri in Kondapalli-vishaya as devabhoga, for temple worship, food offerings, and the upkeep of a choultry, in the temple of Bijjeshvara. It also credits Lokamavva, wife of Gundayya and daughter of Bekana (administrator of Pennatavadi), with constructing the Bijjeshvara temple, where the image was installed by Gunabhushana. The inscription was engraved by Vinayaditya, son of Birogajjala, and concludes with the words 'Vikramaditya dattah,' meaning 'Gift of Vikramaditya.' Muniratnam says the discovery adds significant insight into the political and religious history of the Vengi Chalukyas in present-day Telangana.
