Episode 5
Episode 5 of Dear Hongrang begins with Yeon-ui's assistant, Yuk-son, stabbing a pregnant Kkot-nim in the stomach. He claims that it is Yeol-guk's order. She survives but loses her child. She adopts Fake Hong-rang who is an orphan and has just escaped his captors.
At present, she warns him not to be distracted by Jae-yi. Her plan is to kill the Sim kids and have Hong-rang take over the Min Guild. Hong-rang insists that they can use Jae-yi. Kkot-nim indulges him but orders her assassins to kill Jae-yi should she step out of line.
Meanwhile, Mu-jin is upset with his aide for the kill order. He hates that he accidentally put Jae-yi's life in jeopardy. Coincidentally, she is thinking about Hong-rang's Soulless Reaper rumour and asks Mu-jin about it. He tells her how Hong-rang is an assassin but this just causes her to worry for him. She confesses that while she doesn't recognise Hong-rang as her brother, her heart seems to know him. This saddens Mu-jin as he vies for her heart.
As for Hong-rang, he snoops around Jae-yi's secret cave and finds paintings of Little Hong-rang. The kid has a sachet and he recognises it. Jae-yi spots him and he tries to gaslight her into thinking his memories are returning. She wants to know of his assassin past to accept the new image of her brother but he deflects.
But he has a plan as he asks the cook about the sachet. It is a protection amulet given by the family. Little Hong-rang lost his and he always wore Jae-yi's. A flashback shows Kkot-nim and Fake Hong-rang burying the sachet Yeol-guk had made for Kkot-nim's child.
The Min Guild is in trouble as the patrons have lost their trust. Yeon-ui kills the Jin verifier and fakes a suicide note stating that the Sims did not know about the forgeries. The patrons feel guilty for doubting them and go back to the guild. In exchange for saving Yeol-guk's reputation, Yeon-ui wants Jae-yi to be wed. He is furious as he doesn't want Jae-yi to be used as a pawn. However, he knows not to rile Yeon-ui up. Instead, he focuses on Gyu-ha as he thinks he is up to no good.
Meanwhile, Hong-rang finds the buried sachet. Since Jae-yi believes that only one sachet exists, she will believe that he is the real Hong-rang. He is about to give it to her when he sees her and Mu-jin act like lovers. He is jealous and confesses to Goldie, the pet dog, that he doesn't want to give the sachet yet. If he does, Jae-yi will see him as her brother.
One night, Jae-yi asks about the Soulless Reaper at a gambling den. Everyone is too afraid to answer. Right then, she is kidnapped by Bang-suk who claims to have found the real Hong-rang. He wants revenge on Fake Hong-rang in exchange for the evidence.
However, Jae-yi ends up tricking him as she confesses to Hong-rang that she doesn't want him hurt, even if he is an impostor. She has grown to care for him. The gamble pays off as Bang-suk had lied about the real Hong-rang. Soon, a fight ensues between Hong-rang and Bang-suk's thugs.
Kkot-nim's assassins help take them down and then try to kill Jae-yi. Hong-rangs begs her to accept him and knows she will die if she doesn't. To seal the deal, he gives the Sim sachet and tells her about the Soulless Reaper. It is enough and she accepts that he is her brother. Relieved, In-hoe orders the assassins to back off.
It cuts to a montage of Jae-yi doting on Hong-rang. Mu-jin is still suspicious but agrees to give the guild to him. Jae-yi takes Hong-rang to her secret picnic spot. Having realised his attraction to her, he keeps crossing the line by wiping her lips and licking sugar off her fingers. She is flustered and confused by his actions.
Kkot-nim is furious; her vengeance against the Sims includes killing Jae-yi. She orders In-hoe to kill her regardless. He is troubled but Gyu-ha comes to his rescue. Jae-yi is being married into an unsavoury family.
The man is Choi Ju-yeol. He does his best to impress Jae-yi, talking about art and Du-ryeong. He finally confesses that he knows what it is to lose someone, and she is more agreeable. Mu-jin wants to stop it but Yeol-guk claims it is a good marriage. Should the Chois violate the prenup, they lose their land to the Sims.
But both Mu-jin and Hong-rang conduct separate investigations. Turns out, Ju-yeol is a cruel man. All 3 of his wives have mysteriously died or disappeared. Hong-rang finds the third wife, Lady Ko, whose face has been torn off.
Right before the ceremony, Ju-yeol beats a servant and smiles. At the end of Dear Hongrang Episode 5, the wedding begins.
The Episode Review
Dear Hongrang Episode 5 introduces a third antagonist but Kkot-nim is even more complex than Yeon-ui and the Grand Prince, given that she is a victim. The emotional rollercoaster she sends Hong-rang and In-hoe on is exciting while also frustrating.
A pretty cool observation is that while Yeon-ui is responsible for killing her unborn child, her revenge against Yeol-guk is still valid. This episode shows that in his passivity, Yeol-guk does more harm than good to those he cares about. Having been caught by his wife, he decides to stay with her rather than live a life of poverty with Kkot-nim. He cares for Jae-yi but not enough to stop Yeon-ui from hurting her or marrying her off without looking into Ju-yeol.
And this is why Kkot-nim becomes the antagonist since her vengeance includes our heroine, poor Jae-yi, who already has it tough. Especially in this episode, with that whiplash she gets from Hong-rang flirting with her. To top it off, she is being married off to a monster. By the way, is Ju-yeol the same creepy painter, Du-ryeong? We are never clearly shown Du-ryeong's face, are we?
The chapter also works as a great mid-season finale, as most of the initial mystery is resolved. Fake Hong-rang's identity is confirmed, Kkot-nim's revenge is explained, and so is Yeon-ui's master plan now that her 'son' is back. The second half of the K-drama is now free to address the mystery of Snow Man and Evil Painter, the real Hong-rang's whereabouts and Fake Hong-rang's final showdown with his captors.

Kohli closes in on long-awaited IPL title

NEW DELHI, June 2 (Reuters) - Virat Kohli's trophy cabinet is chock full of awards from his international career but the batsman can end the long wait to win the Indian Premier League (IPL) title when his Royal Challengers Bengaluru play Punjab Kings in Tuesday's final. The 36-year-old has been with Bengaluru since the inaugural edition of the league in 2008, including nine seasons as captain of a franchise that made the finals in 2009, 2011 and 2016 but lost every time. They have looked a different side altogether under Rajat Patidar this season though, winning all seven away games in the group stage and crushing Punjab in the first qualifier. Veteran Kohli is their leading scorer in the tournament but while Bengaluru have been criticised in the past for ignoring team balance and packing the side with marquee players they have finally clicked as a team this season. "It's a better balanced side, far better balanced side," former Australia player Tom Moody, who has coached Punjab and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL, told ESPNcricinfo website. "It's not top heavy. There's opportunities for other players to have an impact in the game, whereas previously, you look at RCB and it was always the top three and then you're concerned about what follows that." Bengaluru were reinforced by Josh Hazlewood's return from a shoulder injury ahead of the playoff and he had an immediate impact as they dismantled Punjab for 101 on Thursday. Down but not out, Punjab managed to claw their way into the final at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium after beating Mumbai Indians in Sunday's qualifier. Shreyas Iyer, who captained Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL title last year, has led from the front and is Punjab's top scorer this season. He produced a captain's knock of 78 not out to help Punjab chase down a tricky target set by powerhouse Mumbai in the qualifier. "I love big occasions," Iyer said after his match-winning knock. "I say to myself and my colleagues, the bigger the occasion, the calmer you are, and you'll get the best results. "Today I was focusing on my breathing rather than sweating it out." Iyer, with the full backing of coach Ricky Ponting, has instilled a fearlessness in Punjab's approach that has given them hope of winning a first IPL crown.

Good Boy – K-drama Episode 1 Recap & Review

Episode 1 Episode 1 of Good Boy begins with Dong-ju's narration, where we learn that he had been a boxing champion until he wasn't. Cut to the present, we find Dong-ju working in the police force. He has been demoted and is selling his gold medal for cash. Meanwhile, Ji Han-na, the shooting champion, is treated as little more than a model for the police force instead of being involved in active duty. We realize that athletes are discriminated against in the force because they received a free pass instead of joining through the mainstream channels of examinations and training. Dong-ju's former mentor, Ko Man-sik, has been assigned to assist in catching a gang ring. While the operation is underway, Ko Man-sik goes to pee, leaving Dong-ju to keep watch on the street. A sudden explosion alerts the gangsters, who begin to escape. Dong-ju comes face to face with the target, Golden Bunny, but ends up getting hit and knocked unconscious. The operation fails, and both Man-sik and Dong-ju are scolded by the other officers. We then meet one of Dong-ju's former colleagues, Shin Jae-hong, now working as a traffic police officer. Dong-ju also reunites with Han-na, and we find that the two have a past. Dong-ju cheerfully declares that he still likes her. At the same time, another former athlete, Jong-hyeon, approaches Han-na. There's a hint of a romantic history between them. He is later revealed to be a promoted audit officer at the police station. Even though Jong-hyeon is doing the best in terms of career among all the athletes, he is disliked for reporting corrupt officers and seeking promotion. Meanwhile, Man-sik leaves Dong-ju alone on a stakeout. Later that night, Dong-ju is hit on the butt by a car. He injures himself when the unknown driver traps his hand in the window as the car speeds off. When he returns, he finds thieves filling fuel in Man-sik's car and then fleeing with it. A little further down the road, he finds a hit-and-run victim and gets him hospitalized. Later, Dong-ju tries to contact his brother, but there is no response. He shows up at a ceremony honouring his former coach, where we learn that the coach had spread rumours that Dong-ju had won his gold medal through doping. This happened because Dong-ju refused to participate in MMA. It is also hinted that the coach got Dong-ju's brother addicted to drugs, and now his brother is missing. The next day, Dong-ju decides to find the culprit behind the hit-and-run case. He breaks into the audit room and steals a paper from a case file after remembering a report about a smuggled car. It turns out to be the same car that hit him and was involved in the hit-and-run. At the same time, Jong-hyeon, who has been investigating the explosion during the failed undercover police operation, discovers that the hit-and-run victim had reported arson five minutes before the explosion. He shares this information with Man-sik, and they agree that someone inside the force leaked details about the operation. Jong-hyeon also realizes that Dong-ju may be in danger. Dong-ju, acting on a tip, heads to an address where he believes he will find information about the hit-and-run suspect. Meanwhile, Han-na is tasked with returning the victim's personal effects. When she finds out the victim has passed away, she decides to deliver them the next day and takes the belongings home. Suddenly, a group of gangsters tricks her into letting them into her home. They are looking for important documents. As they attack, Han-na pulls out her gun and fires at them. Elsewhere, Dong-ju enters a gangster hideout, ready to fight. At the same time, a group of thugs attacks Jong-hyeon in the middle of the road. They were hired by a police officer who holds a grudge against him. Jae-hong witnesses the attack. All of them fight using their distinct styles: Dong-ju as a boxer, Han-na as a shooter, Jong-hyeon as a fencer, Man-sik as a wrestler, and Jae-hong as a discus throw athlete. He hurls a massive iron sewage cover at a car speeding toward him. The episode ends on this exciting note! The Episode Review The episode opens after a significant part of the characters' lives has passed. The four athletes are now living ordinary lives, dealing with everyday struggles instead of standing out as champions. Most of the episode is spent developing the characters and the plot. We are left piecing together what exactly is happening. But halfway through, the show begins to reveal its flavour with glimmers of hilarious slapstick comedy, brought to life by the individual charm of the cast. The last 20 minutes are a complete shift in tone, with breath-taking camera work and editing. It may feel a bit chaotic, but it turns into a visual carnival of action scenes packed with tension and energy. Although the plot doesn't start as strongly as one might expect, the episode delivers a solid punch by the end. This is thanks to the direction of Shin Na-yeon and some standout performances from the cast. With this, we're left excited to see what more Good Boy has in store.
