Donald Trump is ‘not a force for good' London Mayor says
However, he told an event at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe it sometimes felt like he was 'nine years old again' and 'in the school playground'.
But Sir Sadiq, speaking at the Political Party show with comedian Matt Forde, hit back at the US President, saying: 'Somebody who has views like he does about black people, about women, about gays, about Muslims, about Mexicans, thinks I'm nasty.
'Really. He is the leader of the free world, arguably the most powerful man in the world, and really.'
He spoke out as he said that records showed since the middle of January this year – when Mr Trump began his second term in the White House – and July 'there have never been more Americans applying to British citizenship and living in London'.
The Mayor said: 'So I think Americans have got good taste by and large.'
He added that he hoped the President would come to London during his state visit to the UK next month, with Sir Sadiq stressing the 'diversity' of the capital was a 'strength, not a weakness'.

Speaking about this diversity, he insisted: 'I think it makes us stronger not weaker, richer not poorer.
'And when President Trump says some of the things he does, it brings from the periphery to the mainstream, views that are potentially dangerous.
'He inadvertently – I'm not going to suggest he does it deliberately – he inadvertently could be radicalising people with views that could lead to them doing things that are dangerous.'
He spoke out about fears that minorities 'could be treated less favourably because of the views of the President of the USA' as he accused Mr Trump of 'using London and our diversity as a political football, as a proxy for a culture war'.
The London Mayor continued: 'On a personal level, it is water off a duck's back, but we can't run away from the fact that there are some really serious challenges we face as a western society and President Trump, in my view, I speak generally, isn't a force for good.'
However he insisted that he would be 'more than happy to meet President Trump' saying he would seek to show him that it is 'possible to be proud to be a westerner and a proud to be Muslim, that it is possible to be British, and proud to be British, and be of Pakistani origin and be a law abiding citizen and we aren't three headed monsters'.
The Labour politician said: 'I suspect President Trump may have formed a view of Muslims because of the actions of a small minority of really bad people who are terrorists and use Islam in a perverted way.
'What I would want President Trump to know is that is a very small fraction of Muslims across the globe.
'So if there was an opportunity to meet President Trump, I would be more than happy to do so.'

He's three years into a war that has killed 70,000 of his people, and he's now meeting a man who's never been shy about his dislike of him. Fashion is unlikely something the Ukrainian leader has too much of his time to think about, but it seems today is different. Zelesnky swapped out his usual military-style clothing for a shaper look for his meeting at the White House with Donald Trump today. 'Look, I like it!' the US President said after seeing Zelensky's black field jacket, buttoned-up black shirt and black trousers. 'It's the best I have,' Zelenskyy replied. A change of clothing isn't a big deal to most, but Zelensky has regularly worn standard-issue field uniforms as a display of solidarity with his country's armed forces since the war erupted. He wore such an outfit – a black long-sleeved polo shirt with the Ukrainian trident as a crest – during his last visit to the White House in March. 'Oh look, you're all dressed up,' Trump spat as he greeted his Ukrainian counterpart at the entrance to the West Wing. The fatigues quickly became part of Trump's infamous verbal smackdown of the Ukrainian leader in front of the media cameras. Brian Glenn, of the Real America's Voice network, asked the wartime leader why he doesn't wear a suit and implied it was a sign of disrespect. Zelensky replied: 'I will wear a costume [Ukrainian, meaning suit] after this war finishes, yes. Maybe something like yours, yes, maybe something better. He told Zelensky: 'You look fabulous in that suit.' Trump said, 'I said the same thing,' before leaning into Zelensky and adding: 'That's the one that attacked you last time.' 'I remember that,' Zelensky replied. He then noted to Glenn: 'You are in the same suit. I changed, you have not.' The President of Ukraine's black jacket was designed by the Kyiv-based designer Viktor Anisimov, which he threw on for the first time in April for Pope Francis' funeral. Anisimov told WWD that he tried to tweak the military get-ups Zelensky has worn for years to 'create a dignified image that reflects the reality of the time our country is living through'. Trump has actually seen the jacket before – Zelensky wore it with a black undershirt, trousers and combat boots during the NATO summit in June. And it seems Trump was keen to see Zelensky wear it again – the White House asked Ukrainian officials if he would wear a suit ahead of today's meeting, sources told Axios. 'It would be great if he wore a tie, but we don't expect him to,' the source joked. Zelensky did not. He vowed in 2022 to never wear a suit and tie until Ukraine has won the war. Trump-Zelensky II went off without a hitch
Not since Barack Obama held a press conference dressed as the Man from Del Monte has a suit played such a critical role in US politics. But there it was, after the spring press conference incident, President Zelensky arrived in Washington DC wearing a suit. The YMCA-loving Trump administration is hardly batting off the accusations of campery given its fixation with menswear. Still, Zelensky came, as did all of Europe. All the handshakes went off without a hitch, although the size difference meant that the visuals were slightly more redolent of panto than high diplomatic drama. Zelensky handed a letter from his wife to the First Lady, thanking her for her intervention on behalf of Ukraine's missing children. During Trump's monologues on foreign policy he has often let slip that his wife has been a driving influence in favour of a more compassionate attitude towards Ukraine. Whether the Secret Service can deliver it to the right Melania remains to be seen. Trump specialises in the diplomatic theatre of the absurd: Samuel Beckett meets Metternich meets the cast of the Jersey Shore. He duly boasted of solving 'six wars in six months', including in a place he called the Republic of the Condo – which sounds like a pseudonym for Florida. This was a press conference through the looking glass. Meanwhile the President kept his audience guessing: 'We have great people up here', he said, gesturing at the assembled press pack. 'We also have terrible people'. Nobody does scattered insults quite like Trump – he makes the Gatling Gun look like a close-range precision missile. He treated Zelensky to a long and very involved monologue about the virtues of paper ballots – by far the lengthiest answer of the day. It was a bit like one of those sections you have to skip in a Victorian novel, as when Anthony Trollope does one of his three-chapter sequences about a fox hunt or spends 100 pages waxing lyrical about cheques. In the midst of this, the President insisted that only America uses paper ballots. For all his comedy it is worth remembering that Trump includes provable untruths in most of his monologues. Of course it isn't only America which uses mail-in ballots: just ask the electors of Tower Hamlets! As ever, Trump's press conference was like watching a mime show. It was wild, confusing and seemingly irrelevant at times, and yet when it was over you had a sense that you'd seen something impressive. All in all, as good as it could be expected for Ukraine. JD Vance – unusually silent today – had apparently been neutered and, for all the Trumpian weirdness, the exchanges yielded a more concrete level of support than last time. On security, said Trump, 'there's going to be a lot of help, we will be involved'. For now, at least, it seemed President Zelensky had figured out the winning formula; nod, smile and say as little as possible. Perhaps he'd been taking tips from Sir Keir.

Some comments made by the US President in an unguarded moment with French President Emmanuel Macron were picked up on a microphone Donald Trump was caught on a 'hot mic' revealing his real thoughts about Vladimir Putin. The moment came at the top of a multilateral meeting between Trump, Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelensky and a group of European leaders including Keir Starmer. At the beginning of the meeting, as people were still milling around, he appeared to be speaking to French President Emmanuel Macron. He was heard on an open microphone saying: "I think he wants to make a deal for me. "Do you understand? As crazy as it sounds." It comes after the US rolled out the red carpet for Russia's ruthless dictator at a summit in Alaska. Earlier, Trump hinted US troops could be involved in keeping the peace in Ukraine if a truce can be reached. In a Q&A with Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky in the Oval Office, the US President declined to rule out the possibility of deploying troops to the country. And he indicated it would be a matter for discussion at this afternoon's crunch talks with European leaders. Asked if he would rule out such a deployment, the president said, "We'll let you know that, maybe, later today. "We're meeting with seven great leaders of great countries, also, and we'll be talking about that." "They'll all be involved," he added. "When it comes to security, there's going to be a lot of help." Asked about "Nato-like protection" for Ukraine - an idea that had been floated by his envoy Steve Witkoff - Trump said the US would "help them out with that", referring to European leaders. Trump said: "I don't know if you define it that way, but Nato-like? I mean, we're going to give, we have people waiting in another room right now, they're all here, from Europe. "Biggest people in Europe. "And they want to give protection, they feel very strongly about it, and we'll help them out with that." Hopes for the meetings had been gloomy after Trump posted on Truth Social this morning a string of demands for Ukraine - which lined up with many of Russia's demands. They included "forgetting" about Nato membership, and ruling out returning Crimea from Russia to Ukraine. But the Oval Office appearance went smoothly - and vastly less eventfully than their disastrous last White House meeting. Trump indicated that US troops being involved in peacekeeping efforts was on the table for discussion - as was a "NATO style" security guarantee. Both Trump and Zelensky said they were ready for a trilateral meeting with Russia's ruthless dictator, Vladimir Putin.
