The Ottawa Police Service says a man was arrested overnight after an hours-long standoff in Centretown.
A police operation began Tuesday afternoon in the area of MacLaren Street and Kent Street. Police asked the public to avoid the area in a social media post at 3:05 p.m.
MacLaren Street was closed between Kent and Bank streets for the police operation.
Police said just after 2 a.m. Wednesday the operation had concluded.
In an update Wednesday afternoon, police said the incident involved a man who was wanted on an outstanding warrant who had climbed onto the roof of a building.
'Officers created a perimeter, and following hours of negotiation, at approximately 1:55 a.m., the Tactical Unit took the man into custody. The scene collapsed at approximately 2:30 a.m. and all roads were reopened,' police said in a post on X.
According to police, the man was first spotted about a block away on Somerset Street West, but he ran away and climbed onto a roof on MacLaren Street.
'We would like to thank residents in the area for your patience and cooperation,' police said.
Ottawa police did not name the man, nor say why he was wanted. CTV News Ottawa has reached out to police for more details.
