Egypt recovers 7 illegally smuggled artifacts from France

On Thursday, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities received seven ancient Egyptian artifacts from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Expatriate Affairs at the New Administrative Capital. This comes after French authorities seized the artifacts last January.
Sherif Fathy, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, expressed his happiness at the recovery of these pieces, which reflects the fruitful close cooperation between Egypt and France in combating the illicit trafficking of cultural property. He emphasized both sides' commitment to implementing relevant international agreements, foremost among them the 1970 UNESCO Convention.
Fathy affirmed that the recovery of this collection reflects the commitment of the Egyptian state, with all its institutions, to protecting its unique civilizational heritage. He stated that 'every recovered artifact is a restoration of a part of our national memory and Egyptian identity.' He added, 'We will continue these efforts in cooperation with our international partners to protect our heritage for future generations,' commending the fruitful cooperation between the Ministry and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Expatriate Affairs.
French authorities had confiscated the artifacts in Paris after verifying their illegal exit from Egypt. They were handed over to the Egyptian Embassy in Paris last March in preparation for their return to their country of origin.
Mohamed Ismail Khaled, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, explained that the recovered pieces represent significant historical value. A comprehensive archaeological and technical report is currently being prepared for them, in preparation for their display among the holdings of the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir.
Investigations are also ongoing to identify the parties involved in the illegal removal of these pieces and to hold them accountable according to the law, in coordination with all relevant authorities.
Shaaban Abdel-Gawad, Director General of the General Department for Recovered Antiquities and supervisor of the Central Department for Archaeological Ports, clarified that the recovered artifacts include a wooden statue of the god Anubis in his animal form (jackal), a votive coffin, two wooden human hands, a clay statue representing a person, in addition to three small papyrus scrolls.
This marks the third time this month that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Expatriate Affairs has handed over recovered archaeological collections from abroad to the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. Previously, the Consulate General in New York received 25 rare artifacts from US authorities, followed by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities receiving 20 significant artifacts recovered from Australia through Egyptian missions in Canberra and Sydney.

Iran Threatens U.S. Bases Amid Nuclear Tensions

Ahmed Emam Iran issued a stark warning on Wednesday, threatening to target U.S. military bases across the Middle East if a conflict breaks out, as both nations prepare for a new round of nuclear negotiations clouded by deep divisions over uranium enrichment. Iranian Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh made the remarks in response to recent American threats of military action should diplomacy fail. 'We hope the negotiations reach a conclusion,' Nasirzadeh said, 'but if they don't and we are forced into a conflict, there is no doubt the other side will suffer far greater losses than we will.' Nasirzadeh emphasized Iran's ability to strike U.S. positions across the region. 'We can reach all of the United States' bases, and we will target them without hesitation in their host countries,' he declared. 'In such a scenario, the U.S. will be compelled to withdraw from the region.' The United States maintains several military installations in countries neighboring Iran, including its largest regional base in Qatar, which hosts the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) headquarters. The escalating rhetoric comes ahead of renewed nuclear talks, with Washington and Tehran still at odds over the scope and oversight of Iran's uranium enrichment activities. The high-stakes diplomacy aims to revive the 2015 nuclear deal, which has unraveled since the U.S. withdrawal in 2018. Regional tensions remain high as observers warn that failure at the negotiating table could tip the situation into open conflict, drawing in multiple actors across the volatile Gulf region. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean

Egypt, Norway Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Ties, Regional Crises at Oslo Forum

Ahmed Emam Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held talks with his Norwegian counterpart, Espen Barth Eide, on the sidelines of the Oslo Forum, focusing on enhancing bilateral cooperation and addressing regional developments in Gaza and Sudan. The meeting underscored the growing momentum in Egyptian-Norwegian relations, with Abdel Aaty praising recent political and economic progress between the two nations. He highlighted the ongoing dialogue at the highest levels, including President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's visit to Norway in December 2024, and welcomed the launch of regular political consultations, as agreed upon during that visit. Abdelatty emphasized Egypt's interest in strengthening economic collaboration, particularly in renewable energy. He expressed appreciation for the efforts of Norwegian company Scatec in Egypt and looked forward to the implementation of new joint projects that would boost Norwegian investment in the country. Trade between the two nations was another focal point, with Abdel Aaty encouraging the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad) and the Norwegian Investment Fund for Developing Countries (Norfund) to consider increasing their financial support for Norwegian companies operating in Egypt, particularly in clean energy and aquaculture sectors. He noted that these efforts would benefit from Egypt's recent economic reforms. The Egyptian minister also voiced interest in expanding trilateral cooperation in Africa, citing Norway's strategic engagement with the continent following the launch of its Africa Strategy in August 2024. On regional issues, both ministers exchanged views on the situation in Gaza. Abdel Aaty commended Norway's long-standing support for Palestinian rights and international law, and outlined Egypt's intensive efforts to broker a ceasefire, facilitate humanitarian aid, and mitigate the worsening humanitarian crisis in the besieged enclave. He reiterated Egypt's firm position on the Palestinian cause, advocating for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. Regarding Sudan, Abdel Aaty reaffirmed Egypt's support for the unity and stability of its southern neighbor. He stressed the importance of safeguarding Sudan's national institutions, sovereignty, and territorial integrity amid the ongoing conflict. The meeting reflected both countries' shared commitment to deepening cooperation and addressing regional challenges through diplomacy and sustainable development. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean

Complete Internet, Telecommunications Blackout in Gaza

Israa Farhan The Gaza Strip has been plunged into a total communications blackout, with all internet and fixed-line services cut off following the destruction of the last remaining fibre-optic route, according to a statement issued on Thursday by the Palestinian Telecommunications Regulatory Authority. This latest shutdown intensifies the digital isolation of Gaza, which has been subject to sustained targeting of its communications infrastructure. Despite repeated attempts over several months to repair both primary and alternative routes, restoration efforts have largely failed. The central and southern governorates of Gaza have now joined Gaza City and the northern part of the Strip in complete disconnection, marking the second consecutive day of widespread blackout. The outage follows continued targeting of critical network infrastructure, severely disrupting telecommunications across the territory. Officials warned that the deliberate dismantling of Gaza's telecommunications systems threatens to sever the region entirely from the outside world. This has drastically limited residents' access to essential services, including humanitarian aid, emergency healthcare, education, and media communications. The regulatory authority has sounded the alarm over the deepening humanitarian and social consequences of the outage. It urged immediate intervention from relevant local and international bodies to facilitate technical access to affected areas and enable urgent repair operations. Continued denial of repair efforts is expected to prolong the blackout and intensify the crisis. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean
