Taylor Swift explains that Reputation is very personal and connected to a special time in her life, which makes it harder to remake.
After six years and a massive world tour, Taylor Swift has finally regained full ownership of her original music. She now owns her first six albums: Taylor Swift, Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989 and Reputation. This milestone deal includes not just the songs but also the music videos, concert films, and album photos associated with them. Swifties, who have been eagerly awaiting Reputation (Taylor's Version), got a heartfelt update from the singer. She shared that this particular album is deeply personal and tied to a unique chapter in her life, making it more challenging to re-record. Fans have been buzzing with excitement ever since the release of 1989 (Taylor's Version) in October 2023, and now, they finally have a glimpse of what's coming next.
In an exciting handwritten letter, Swift wrote, 'What about Rep TV? Full transparency: I haven't even re-recorded a quarter of it. The Reputation album was so specific to that time in my life, and I kept hitting a stopping point when I tried to remake it. All that defiance, that longing to be understood while feeling purposely misunderstood, that desperate hope, that shame-born snarl and mischief. To be perfectly honest, it's the first album in those first 6 that I thought couldn't be improved upon by redoing it. Not the music, or photos, or videos. So I kept putting it off."
'There will be a time (if you're into the idea) for the unreleased Vault tracks from that album to hatch. I've already completely re-recorded my entire debut album, and I really love how it sounds now. Those 2 albums can still have their moments to re-emerge when the time is right, if that would be something you guys would be excited about. But if it happens, it won't be from a place of sadness and longing for what I wish I could have It will just be a celebration now," Taylor Swift added.
In 2021, Taylor Swift officially began her Taylor's Version journey. She started re-recording her old albums to gain full rights over her music. Since then, she has released new versions of Fearless, Red, Speak Now and 1989. These re-recorded albums not only included fresh versions of her original songs but also featured tracks that were never released before.
In her letter, Swift shared how emotional this moment is for her. She mentioned it's hard to even put her feelings into words because so many memories are running through her mind. For years, she dreamed of owning her music again, but it always felt just out of reach. After nearly 20 years of trying and facing many challenges, she finally made it happen. She explained that ever since hearing the news, she's still in shock that it's real.
Now, all the songs she has written, music videos, concert recordings, album photos and even the songs that were never released truly belong to her. Taylor Swift called it the biggest dream of her life coming true. She also thanked her fans for their support, saying their love for the re-recorded albums and the success of The Eras Tour made this possible. Because of them, she could finally reclaim the music she worked so hard to create.
