Dutch morning papers hold no mercy for Jong Oranje: 'Nothing to look for in the knockout stages'
With sub-par performances in their first two games of the U21 European Championship, Jong Oranje are facing an inglorious exit.
Following a 2-2 draw with Finland, Denmark beat the Dutch yesterday 2-1, and the morning papers have been particularly critical of both the team and national coach Michael Reiziger.

The Algemeen Dagblad noted a number of players from the Dutch Juniors falling to the ground in disappointment after the match. 'Against the Finns, the talents had already made a mess of it by missing countless chances. Against the Danes, Reiziger's modified formation went one better. Because of this, and by defending poorly again, an admittedly better performance ultimately yielded even less.'
According to the AD, Reiziger's team missed 10 clear chances as they ultimately fell victim to a William Osula brace after Oliver Provstgaard's initial own goal gave the Dutch the lead.
'There were too many to mention. Noah Ohio took the cake by failing to make the final push twice. This means that Jong Oranje suffered its first defeat, and the group win is already out of reach. A win over Ukraine on Wednesday will probably be enough for second place, but if Reiziger's team continues to lack killer instinct for goals, the team that was aiming for European gold in advance will not even have anything to look for in the knockout phase.'

De Telegraaf continued critically, 'The Dutch juniors are again a big disappointment and must fear elimination from the European Championship.'
According to the newspaper, it would be a disappointment, because much was expected of the Dutch promises beforehand. 'All speculation about the Dutch juniors as possible tournament winners can be put on ice after two group matches. The difference with the performances of their peers from Germany, Italy and Spain in the group stage is enormous.'
Head coach Reiziger does not escape criticism. 'The role of Jong Oranje coach Michael Reiziger should be critically examined. Several choices made by the former Ajax player have not worked out well.'

Anass Salah-Eddine's starting position was called 'a new rabbit out of the hat', especially since very little playing time since his transfer to AS Roma. Reiziger's choices will be examined in any case. 'The first two group matches have revealed the flaws in Reiziger's selection policy', writes De Telegraaf, which judges that many choices were made out of loyalty.
'That the form of the moment and match rhythm are not to be underestimated factors in tournament football. These can also be seen in striker Noah Ohio. He had three big chances against the Danes, but missed three times', according to De Telegraaf. 'The failure to select proven goal scorer Mexx Meerdink, a striker who is in form, continues to haunt Reiziger, if the strikers who were selected continue to miss so many chances.'
'Missing chances is not the only shortcoming of the Dutch Juniors at this European Championship so far', the newspaper continues. 'Just like against Finland, there were also many sloppy plays against Denmark, mostly by the more seasoned players such as Jorrel Hato, Devyne Rensch and Ian Maatsen. In addition, the Dutch Juniors were very vulnerable defensively against Denmark.' As a result, it is now 'make or break' against Ukraine.

Liverpool reach agreement with Ajax over "one of the GREATEST talents in Europe"
Liverpool reach agreement with Ajax over "one of the GREATEST talents in Europe" Ajax reach agreement for Vitezslav Jaros Jaros kept a clean sheet on that occasion but in truth a decisive breakthrough into the first team on Merseyside appears unlikely. Although Caoimhin Kelleher is no longer standing in his way, Jaros has had to watch as both Giorgi Mamardashvili and Armin Pecsi come into the club this summer. Advertisement Accordingly the goalkeeper will have to strike out in search of first-team football next season and an agreement has now been reached over a loan deal to Heitinga's Ajax. That's according to a new report in De Telegraaf, which claims the deal will be made official once Jaros completes a medical on either Tuesday or Wednesday this week. © IMAGO - Liverpool Vitezslav Jaros Jaros: "One of the greatest goalkeeping talents in Europe" Furthermore, the report states that Jaros 'is seen as one of the greatest goalkeeping talents in Europe.' It will be a straight loan for the shot-stopper, who is also being tipped to sign an extension to a contract that currently expires in 2026. Advertisement It remains to be seen what the future holds for Jaros, who initially joined the Reds as a youth from Slavia Prague back in 2017. He has since experienced loans at St Patrick's Athletic, Notts County, Stockport and Sturm Graz - where he won the Austrian league and cup double.

Florida's third and fourth lines are grinding down Edmonton in the Stanley Cup Final
Brad Marchand joked that when he was traded to the Florida Panthers from the Boston Bruins, he looked at the lineup and wondered if he would be playing on the fourth line again. 'Back to my roots,' Marchand said. Sorry, Brad. There was no room there. But coach Paul Maurice figured the third line alongside young Finns Anton Lundell and Eetu Luostarinen was the perfect place for Marchand, and it has worked out swimmingly. The Marchand-Lundell-Luostarinen trio is responsible for six goals in the Stanley Cup Final, and the gritty fourth line of A.J. Greer, Tomas Nosek and Jonah Gadjovich has been a big part of wearing down the Edmonton Oilers to take a 3-2 lead in the series going into Game 6. 'We're not here without them,' Maurice said. 'Both of those lines have a strong identity, and they shape the identity of our team.' All three of Greer, Nosek and Gadjovich were healthy scratches for the opening two games of the second round against Toronto. Florida lost those games, Maurice brought them back and the Panthers won that series in seven and rolled over Carolina in the Eastern Conference final. In the Cup final, the third and fourth lines have not only helped at even strength but against Edmonton's potent power play, holding it to four goals on 23 opportunities, a 17.4% conversion rate. That, combined with tilting the ice on the Oilers, has been a recipe for success, especially after Greer returned from injury in time for Game 3. 'The Lundell line is producing offense, Marchand's producing offense, these guys have good numbers but they're all penalty killers,' Marchand said. 'That's what makes them special because there's no cheat in their game.' More travel There was only one day between Games 4 and 5 going from Sunrise to Edmonton. There is an extra travel gap to return to Florida, but it's still a five-plus hour flight for each team. 'It's part of the NHL schedule: a lot of travel,' Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch said. 'There's a lot of science behind it of the importance of sleep, nutrition, all that recovery, exercises that go into it just so that the players are feeling at their best or as close to their best as they can.' Vanecek's recognition Sergei Bobrovsky has been the Panthers' starting goaltender this entire playoff run. Backup Vitek Vanecek only got some attention after cameras caught him and the Oilers' Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard in a stare down during warmups prior to Game 4. 'I was just doing my routine,' Vanecek said. In Game 5, Vanecek watched from his usual seat at the end of the bench as Bobrovsky made 19 saves to push Florida to the verge of another championship. Afterward, Gadjovich — who got the game puck for fighting in Game 3 — handed it to Vanecek. 'There's a great recognition (and) care in the room for all the hard work that goes on,' Maurice said. 'Some of those guys don't get to be on the ice for a celebration after a win, but they're critical to the group, to the personality of the group and the closeness of it.'
