Strong action will be taken if any Odisha link with espionage for Pakistan is found: Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan
Odisha Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan on Monday (May 19, 2025) said strict legal action will be taken if anyone is found leaking sensitive information to operatives in Pakistan.
Mr. Harichandan's statement came amid a police investigation into the potential links between a Puri-based YouTuber and Jyoti Malhotra, who was arrested on the charge of passing on sensitive information to Pakistani intelligence operatives.
Speaking to reporters in Bhubaneswar, he said the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is conducting the probe on sharing sensitive information with the neighbouring country.
'Anyone found connected to this network will face investigation. Strict action will be taken against those involved, whether they were directly involved in espionage or were assisting such activities in any form. No one will be spared,' the Minister asserted.
When asked about possible links of the Odisha YouTuber in the alleged espionage case, he said, 'If at all there is a link, the NIA will do its job properly. If any link is established, the matter will be taken very seriously and the situation will be dealt with accordingly'.
'YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra, who was arrested by Haryana Police, had visited Jagannath temple in Puri, besides Konark and Chilka in Odisha. She was in touch with an Odisha-based YouTuber. We are verifying the facts, and nothing substantial has come out till now,' IGP, Crime Branch, Sarthak Sarangi said.
After the matter came to the fore, in a social media post, the woman YouTuber from Puri said, 'Jyoti was just a friend of mine, and I came in contact with her through YouTube. I was unaware of anything which she is accused of. I would not have been in touch with her had I known that she was spying for enemy Pakistan'.
'If any investigative agency wishes to cross-question me, I would provide full cooperation. Nation is above all. Jai Hind,' she wrote in an Instagram post.

20% ethanol blending achieved after policy changes in 2014, says Fadnavis
1 2 Pune: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday lauded the efforts of Pune-based Praj Industries for its contribution to biofuel generation and said the sector suffered due to the lack of a policy during the UPA-led govt's tenure. It was only after NDA formed govt in 2014 that did India start achieving 20% ethanol blending with petrol that could help save crores of rupees in foreign exchange, he said. "The period from 2009 to 2014 was a struggle not only for Praj Industries but for the entire country. Before that, during Atal Bihari Vajpayee's govt, he formed a committee to study ethanol blending and a decision was made for 5% blending with petrol. However, the subsequent govt failed to implement the decision effectively," he said in Pune. The CM further said whenever the demand to increase the ethanol blending percentage was raised (during the UPA tenure), some people would claim that a developing country like India could not afford it by compromising food security. "The scenario changed after 2014 when the NDA govt, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, brought changes in the policy to increase the percentage. The country has achieved 20% ethanol blending due to which India is saving crores of rupees in foreign exchange, which we would have to spend on importing fuel," Fadnavis said at an event organised to release a book written by the founder president of Praj Industries, Pramod Chaudhari.

Cop's tip-off leads to bust of inter-state drug network traced to Goa
Hyderabad: A vigilant constable's surveillance at a Hyderabad court uncovered a shocking revelation. A drug peddler, already facing a 2018 narcotics case, was reportedly attending court hearings while carrying contraband. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Acting on the tip-off, sleuths from the Telangana Anti Narcotics Bureau (TGANB) apprehended the accused, leading to the unravelling of a series of drug rackets with roots in Parra village in Goa. These rackets had a far-reaching network supplying narcotics to several metropolitan cities, including Hyderabad. The investigation led to the arrest of Livio Joseph Almeida, a Goa resident, who was found to have an active clientele of 48 individuals from Hyderabad, regularly purchasing cocaine and MDMA. Alongside him, his associate Ubalanka Shankar from Hyderabad was also arrested last month. Livio admitted to sourcing drugs from local suppliers in Parra, which subsequently led to the arrest of another peddler, Benjamin Fosu, also from Parra. During interrogation, Fosu revealed that Nigerian drug networks were actively operating from other Goa hotspots such as Anjuna and Siolim. The TNANB's findings aligned with earlier arrests, including that of a DJ, Swadeep, in 2024, who was allegedly procuring drugs from Parra to sell at events. Similarly, in another case, a doctor was arrested for allegedly purchasing drugs from a dealer named Balakrishna. TGANB surveillance showed Balakrishna, a Mumbai resident, travelled discreetly to Hyderabad by private bus, blending in as a casual traveller. He used bike taxis and adopted a low-profile approach while delivering narcotics, including to the doctor, during seemingly routine meetings. Sources said this string of arrests underscores the evolving tactics of drug peddlers and the inter-state links between Goa-based cartels and urban consumers, particularly in Hyderabad.
