A Scorpio SUV ran over three police personnel during a late-night routine vehicle-checking operation in Bihar's Patna in the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, injuring a woman constable and two inspectors. However, the woman constable succumbed to her injuries this morning. The incident took place on Atal Path near the Srikrishna Puri locality in Patna. While the driver managed to flee the spot, police took two passengers from the vehicle into custody. Following the incident, senior police officials rushed to the scene while the injured officers were taken to a private hospital.advertisement"Three security personnel posted with Srikrishna Puri police station were checking vehicles on the Atal Path, when the incident happened. While they were checking a car, another speeding car hit it from the rear end, resulting in injuries to the three personnel. The driver of the speeding car managed to flee immediately after the accident," senior Patna Police official Awkash Kumar told news agency PTI.
The other two injured officers are reportedly in a stable condition.Meanwhile, the incident has sparked a row, with Opposition leaders in the state questioning the law and order situation in Bihar. With the driver still at large, RJD leader Mrityunjay Tiwari said, "While the police were conducting vehicle checks in Patna, a car ran over the officers. A woman police personnel has died. What is happening in Patna? The driver is still absconding. It's like a reign of crime has taken over. Even uniformed police officers are no longer safe. This is the state of affairs in Bihar."advertisement"On the other hand, Purnia MP Pappu Yadav blamed the increasing criminalisation of politics and held the people of Bihar responsible for voting 'criminals into power.'""Society itself does not want crime to end. When the public votes for criminals during elections, then crime is bound to happen. Bihar cannot function without crime or the mafia—no caste or political party can survive without the mafia. People of every caste consider their criminals as leaders, which is why crime is not even an issue for the public in Bihar. It is the public that votes criminals into power. So not just the government, we hold the public equally responsible for the law and order situation."Inputs from Sujeet Gupta and PTI

Efforts to clear debris at plane crash site in Ahmedabad continue overnight

AHMEDABAD, Jun 13 (PTI) The operation to clear the site of the crash involving a London-bound Air India flight, in which 265 people lost their lives on Thursday, continued overnight and is in the last stages, an official said on Friday. A Boeing 787 Dreamliner (AI 171), with 242 people on board, including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, crashed into a medical college complex in the Meghaninagar area moments after taking off from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Thursday afternoon. One person survived the tragedy, while 241 on board, including 168 Indians, 53 British, seven Portuguese and one Canadian, were killed. Deputy Commissioner of Police Kanan Desai said the operation to clear the site continued overnight, and some debris still needed to be removed. "Bodies were charred beyond recognition," she said. The senior official had earlier said 265 bodies were sent to the city civil hospital. The aircraft could be seen from afar, losing altitude rapidly and crashing in a ball of fire that sent plumes of thick black smoke spiralling up in the air. Four MBBS students and a doctor's wife were among those killed at the complex of BJ Medical College outside the airport perimeter, the official had said.
