World Pickleball League Launches 'WPBL On Tour' Across Six Cities In India

The World Pickleball League launched 'WPBL On Tour,' off-season events in six franchise cities in India.
The World Pickleball League (WPBL) announced the launch of 'WPBL On Tour' – a series of off-season events including a unique multi-city tournament bringing together the League and its franchises in a shared vision to grow the sport across the country.
This off-season initiative of franchise-led tournaments and events is aimed at expanding the community engagement of India's fastest-growing sport, as evidenced by the resounding success of Season 1 of WPBL.
WPBL on Tour will be held in the six franchise cities over a span of four months with 20+ days of on-ground engagement. Each WPBL franchise will play host to a city-based tournament in their home territory, which shall see the League assist with strategic, marketing, and financial support. The World Pickleball League will enable the franchise to organise tournaments that will be open to local pickleball players and enthusiasts, and offer an unparalleled opportunity to them to compete under the banner of their city's team. They will also have a chance to experience the high-octane and inclusive energy of WPBL first-hand.

With WPBL On Tour, WPBL is thus aiming to set a new benchmark for how leagues can harness meaningful connections with fans and communities throughout the year – a first for any Indian professional league to develop a 360° sporting ecosystem beyond the primary tournament window.
Registration details and other information for each tournament will be announced by the WPBL and the respective franchise on their social media handles in due course.
With Season 2 of the World Pickleball League set to unfold between January 24 – February 8, 2026, WPBL On Tour serves as the perfect build-up to India's biggest sportainment spectacle.

Icra retains India's FY26 GDP forecast at 6.2% despite rising global risks
Rating agency Icra on Wednesday retained its India's GDP growth forecast for fiscal 2025-26 at 6.2 per cent, assuming well-distributed monsoons and crude oil prices averaging around $ 70/barrel. However, geopolitical tensions in West Asia, volatility in financial markets, and uncertain trade policies pose downside risks to this growth outlook, which have intensified, Icra said in its Macro Update June 2025. Reserve Bank has projected the GDP growth at 6.5 per cent. "Economic activity has displayed a mixed trend in the first two months of FY2026, with only nine of the 17 non-agri indicators showing an improvement over Q4 FY2025, even as the output of summer crops is estimated to grow at a healthy pace," the report said. The early onset of monsoons in May 2025 partly weighed upon the performance of the electricity and mining sectors. It also said the prospects for urban consumption remain bright owing to the income tax relief, rate cuts and softening food inflation. However, global risks remain elevated amid geopolitical tensions in West Asia, volatility in global financial markets and lingering uncertainty around tariff policies, posing headwinds to domestic growth, the rating agency said. While Icra maintains India's GDP growth forecast for FY2026 at 6.2 per cent, the downside risks have risen, the report said. Aided by the favourable monsoon forecast and likely dip in food inflation, the CPI inflation is projected to cool to 3.5 per cent in FY2026 from 4.6 per cent in FY2025, lower than the Monetary Policy Committee's (MPC's) forecast of 3.7 per cent, it added. Further, Icra said that while a pause is likely in August 2025, it does not rule out the possibility of a final 25 basis points rate cut in October 2025, based on its subdued growth-inflation outlook. The report said that a $ 10/barrel increase in the average crude oil price would lead to a $ 13-14 billion rise in net oil imports, increasing the CAD (current account deficit) by 0.3 per cent of GDP. A sustained increase in crude oil prices from current levels could negatively impact the profitability of Indian companies and lead to a downward revision in the GDP growth forecast.

China, India cut Indonesian coal imports, shift to higher-grade supply
Top thermal coal importers China and India are slashing Indonesian shipments of the power-generating fuel in favour of energy-dense grades from elsewhere as a global fall in prices has made higher-quality coal more competitive. Coal purchases by China and India from Indonesia, the world's biggest exporter, are dropping faster than their overall thermal coal imports, as both nations shift toward higher-calorific value (CV) coal that yields more energy per ton, industry officials say. "Higher CV coal is more expensive, but produces more energy for every dollar spent at current prices. One million tons of higher CV coal can replace 1.2-1.3 million tons or even 1.5 million tons from Indonesia," said Vasudev Pamnani, director at India-based coal trader I-Energy Natural Resources. In China, Indonesian medium- and low-calorific thermal coal has been struggling to compete with discounted Russian supplies of similar grades, said Kpler analyst Zhiyuan Li. Ramli Ahmad, the president director of Indonesian miner Ombilin Energi, said Indonesian coal could make a comeback if prices of higher grades rise due to the Middle East conflict, but lower-CV coal will suffer as long as more energy-dense grades are competitive. Mongolian coal in China and South African coal in India have been the biggest gainers at Indonesia's expense, with their shares touching record highs in these markets in the first five months of 2025, Chinese customs and Indian trade data showed. Improved efficiency will continue to boost Mongolian coal exports despite falling thermal coal prices in China as Mongolian coal has remained price-competitive, said Xue Dingcui, analyst at Mysteel. China and India have also stepped up purchases from Tanzania, which was largely been absent from the global seaborne coal trade map until Russia's war on Ukraine in 2022. Indian traders have also increased higher-grade coal purchases from Kazhakhstan, Colombia and Mozambique this year, while Australian supplies have gained share in China. Indonesian and Australian coal indexes, reflecting grades preferred by Chinese buyers, have been trending lower since October 2023, with the Australian benchmark declining faster than the Indonesian one. LOOKING WITHIN Overall, Chinese coal imports fell nearly 10% to 137.4 million tons in the first five months of the year, while shipments to India dropped more than 5% to 74 million tons. Indonesian exports have been the worst hit, with supplies to China and India sliding 12.3% and 14.3%, respectively. The southeast Asian nation's total coal exports dropped 12% to 187 million tons in the January-May period, data from analytics firm Kpler showed. To counter export declines, Indonesian miners are pivoting to domestic demand, with local deliveries poised to rise 3% this year and exports set to decline about 10%, according to the Indonesian Mining Services Association. Domestic demand, driven by nickel smelters, is on track to account for the highest share of Indonesian coal supply in at least a decade and stands at 48.6% currently, according to government data reviewed by Reuters. Indonesia caps the price of coal sold to power utilities, making smelters a more attractive alternative to exports. "The smelter industry is the brightest spot for now, we get better prices than we get from the power industry or sales to China," Ombilin's Ahmad said.
