A RECORD 31.1million people joined the VE Day 80th anniversary celebrations earlier this month.
Almost half the country took part in some way, by attending street parties, parades or by observing the two-minute silence.

It smashed the record set by the late Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022, when 16.8million people took part.
Brendan Cox, whose Together Coalition helped promote the commemoration, said: 'The historic levels of participation tell us there is a desire to connect with our shared history and to celebrate shared values together.
'At a time when our politics is more fragmented than ever, it's all the more welcome our country is still able to come together to celebrate what we have in common.'
The events marked eight decades since the end of World War Two in Europe on May 8, 1945.
A military parade past Buckingham Palace was watched by the Royal Family and veterans.
Thousands of street parties were also set up across Britain.
A service was held in Westminster Abbey and 10,000 people joined the King and Queen at a pop concert on Horse Guards Parade.

You can deter rodents by properly maintaining the trees on your property. 'Trim back branches to keep rats from using them as highways. It said that since rats look for food sources in our gardens, including bird feeders and tables, it's a good idea to use Vaseline to keep them away. It added that taller feeding stations are better as they make it more difficult for rats to climb compared to those that are at ground level. How to get rid of these common garden pests What to do if you've found rats in your house or garden To report a pest problem, the government website encourages you to get in touch with your council to see if they provide pest control services to get rid of rats. You can enter your postcode, and the website will match the postcode to a council and direct you to their website for more information. The British Pest Control Association (BPCA) recommends getting in touch with a professional pest management company that is a member of BPCA. Recommended reading: You'll need to enter your postcode and state whether your property is commercial or residential, and the service you'd like. Then, companies that are BPCA members and located in your area will be listed with contact details. The BPCA says all of its members have the correct insurance and use trained and qualified technicians. In one swoop, you can kill off any ivy and prevent it from growing back. And all you need is two kitchen ingredients that won't break the bank. The DIY solution is recommended by Chris Bonnett from Gardening Express. 'A few strands of ivy can look great in a garden but if English ivy starts to grow over leaves and plants, it can cause significant damage," he explained. As well as damaging your brickwork, ivy can also prevent other plants from receiving essential nutrients from sunlight. To tackle this issue, the gardening expert advises homeowners to tackle the root of the problem, literally. Killing the roots is a crucial step, and while some people suggest using natural methods such as boiling water, this expert has a different method. He revealed that he swears by a homemade solution of apple cider vinegar and salt. "The salt dehydrates the ivy and disrupts its water balance, while the acidic content of the mixture helps kill it," he explained. And while the mixture should put an end to your ivy problem, it won't have any long-term effects on your soil. You can execute this method without breaking the bank. A 350ml bottle of Apple Cider Vinegar is available from Tesco for just £1.50. But since you will only need around 100ml to carry out this process, the cost breaks down to just 43p. And tack on an additional 2p for the five teaspoons of table salt you can take from the 750g bottle from Sainsbury's, available for just 69p.
