
SoYen Desserts delivers bold flavors in St. Paul
Where we went: Kyle and Torey separately stumbled across Lowertown's SoYen Desserts, a small-batch bakery with indoor service and a takeout window just steps from the St. Paul Farmers' Market, on a recent weekend!
On the menu: Pillowy cream-filled brioche doughnuts ($5) featuring a rotating menu of flavors that go beyond Boston cream: May specials include black sesame/strawberry and Thai tea custard.
Plus: Savory bites like a Hmong sausage sandwich ($10) and laab curly fries ($10), crepes, coffee, iced tea and other treats.
If you go: Bring an appetite or many mouths to feed. It's fun to sample the various pairings, but the sweet treats are also quite large and rich.
Torey's crew of five adults and one sugar-crazed 4-year-old struggled to make a dent in their order of three delicious doughnuts and a lemon cloud bun.
Pro tip: There's outside seating in the shady alley, but you can also bring your haul to one of the farmers market picnic tables if you want to sit in the sun.
Kyle's thought bubble: Even though they're only open Friday through Sunday, I'm still puzzled by why we didn't get a reader recommendation about SoYen. I tried the black sesame/strawberry and it knocked my socks off!

Netflix's 'Untamed' Is Officially Renewed for a Second Season
Netflix's new thriller, Untamed, is now streaming. It follows Kyle Turner (Eric Bana) as he investigates a death in Yosemite National Park. While the finale neatly wraps up this season's mystery, fans are already wondering if the show is returning for a second season. Just a few weeks after its premiere, Netflix officially renewed Untamed for season two. 'I am absolutely thrilled that we get the chance to bring another season of Untamed life,' Eric Bana said in a statement. 'The response to Season 1 has been a testament to the incredible effort by our crew to deliver something truly unique. I can't wait to take Kyle on his next journey.' Bana will return as Kyle, and according to Tudum, 'the grizzled park veteran will be investigating a whole new mystery.' Season two will likely take place in a new national park. 'We've done Yosemite. What's the next park that could feel different from that?' co-showrunner Elle Smith told Tudum. 'Each national park has such a different cultural identity, geographical identity. Being able to explore those places through the case and through Turner's journey is what's so fascinating.' Creator Mark L. Smith thinks Kyle needs to figure himself out in a new location. 'Instead of Turner being in his element, he'll be in a land where he doesn't understand all the dangers and the risks, and he doesn't understand the people around [him],' he explained to Tudum. 'He'll be a little bit on his back foot and a little bit unsure, and he'll have to learn as well.' Lily Santiago, who plays rookie Naya Vasquez, wants a second season to explore 'more solving of murders,' as she told TV Insider. Santiago added, 'Honestly, I would love for her to get called up to go to a different place. Bring me to a mountain in Hawai'i. I'm hoping that it's new murder, new location, wilderness challenges, and new things to learn.' Indeed, co-showrunner Smith said her hope for an Untamed 'would be getting to explore a different park, a different case.' She added, 'We would do this forever if they let us, but we'll see. There are grilled or fried chicken fingers, with flavors like lemongrass or Muay Thai, with garlic, soy, fish sauce, and coriander, along with sauces like Heavenly BBQ (capturing the flavors of the Thai beef jerky known as heavenly beef), or the noom green sauce. There are dine-in and takeout services, as well as uncooked pastas and other Italian food products, and tiramisu. 359 Sackett Street, near Smith Street East Village: The East Village Indian restaurant Ishq co-owners opened a new neighborhood fast-casual spot, KebabishQ (styled as KEBABISHQ), on Wednesday, August 6. Along with its namesake noodle, home-made with a choice of sauces, there's lots of antipasti like seared octopus and eggplant rotolo, skillet-based focaccia, and pizza from its Brazilian-born chef Augusto Ferreira. 2 East 45th Street, near Fifth Avenue The corn, goat curry and oxtail at Lélé. Lélé Midtown: This huge new Afro-Caribbean restaurant Lélé, which opened in late July, is led by chef Rúnar Pierre Heriveaux, an alum of Iceland's Michelin-starred Reykjavík's Óx. He showcases his Haitian heritage and French training across a menu full of green curry shrimp, fruity hamachi, and hot honey peanut chicken. The bar, which claims to be the city's first equipped with a robot bartender, delivers beachy cocktails complete with coconut water ice cubes and ginger wine floats. The three-story dining room is covered with velvety, tropical-themed furniture and chandeliers, all set to an Afrobeats soundtrack and sporadic live music. 237 Madison Avenue, between East 37th and 38th streets Mott Haven: A do-good cafe called Nourish opened for all-day service on Wednesday, July 31, in the Bronx with a catch-all menu featuring baked goods, steak frites, Korean fried chicken bites, and creative cocktails.
