This superstar was madly in love with Sridevi, 13 years older than him, even proposed to her for marriage, played role of her stepson; His name is...
You must have heard many stories about Sridevi's beauty and her love story with husband Boney Kapoor. But do you know about her lesser-known connection with a South Indian superstar, with whom she did several films? Let us tell you about this unique and heartwarming relationship. Sridevi and Rajinikanth worked together in many films. Their friendship and on-screen chemistry were well known. They first collaborated in 1976 in the Tamil romantic film Moondru Mudichu. At that time, they were both just 13 years old. Interestingly, Sridevi was not the heroine in Rajinikanth's film; she played the role of his stepmother. Later, the two went on to do 19 films together, across multiple languages including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada. It is said that during this time, Rajinikanth began to fall in love with Sridevi. He was also very close to her family. At one point, Rajinikanth wanted to express his feelings. He wished to marry 16-year-old Sridevi and was even planning to propose to her. He was about to speak to her mother about the relationship, but something happened that prevented the matter from moving forward. In an interview with filmmaker K. Balachander, Rajinikanth revealed that he had deep feelings for Sridevi. He even went to her house with a marriage proposal. He was about to ask her mother for Sridevi's hand in marriage when, suddenly, the lights went out and the house was plunged into darkness. When Rajinikanth visited Sridevi's home, he was warmly welcomed. A delicious meal was prepared, and he was treated with great respect. Just as he was about to express his feelings, the power went out. Taking it as an inauspicious sign, he decided to postpone the conversation, thinking he would choose a better time to talk about something so important. However, that moment never came. Rajinikanth never got the chance to confess his feelings. Years later, in 1996, Sridevi married Boney Kapoor. Another famous incident is that once Rajinikanth became very ill. Sridevi then kept a fast for seven days for Rajinikanth. There was a very strong bond between the two, which remained forever. When Sridevi passed away, Rajinikanth dropped everything to come and pay his respects. Rajinikanth is married to Lata Rajinikanth, and the couple tied the knot in 1981. Since then, they had always spent quality time together on their wedding anniversary. However, for the first time in 37 years, Rajinikanth broke this tradition. The year Sridevi died, he chose not to celebrate their anniversary.

‘AR Rahman always brings an element of surprise,' says singer Madhushree: ‘He adds his touch later, and it turns out to be magical'
Renowned playback singer Madhushree, who has carved a niche for herself in both Bollywood and South Indian cinema with her soulful voice and timeless songs, recently opened up about her creative process and experiences with some of the biggest names in the music industry during an interview with O2India. One name that inevitably came up in the conversation was that of Academy Award-winning composer A.R. Rahman. Reflecting on her collaborations with Rahman on iconic tracks like 'Kabhi Neem Neem' and 'Marudhani', Madhushree shared how his style never fails to surprise her. 'Rahman ji always brings an element of surprise… whether it's this song or Kabhi Neem Neem, he adds his touch later, and it turns out to be magical,' she said. The singer revealed that often, Rahman records his parts after the initial track is laid down, adding a unique energy that transforms the song entirely. Also Read | Madhushree recalls collaborating with AR Rahman, Javed Akhtar for Kisna: 'Your romance is with your art, your voice' Beyond AR Rahman, Madhushree has also worked with a host of acclaimed South Indian music composers. Speaking of her experiences with them, she highlighted their distinctive approaches and artistic personas. 'Whether it's Yuvan Shankar Raja, Harris Jayaraj, or Rahman ji, they more or less follow the same process. First they compose the song, and then they give you the space to rehearse. That's where there's some similarity.' However, she emphasized a key difference that makes South Indian composers stand out: their deep involvement and clarity during the recording process. The singer siad, 'One thing about South Indian music composers is that they're so good, you never feel lost. They'll guide you with exact notations, where to pause, what expressions to use, they spell everything out, so you don't have to figure it out on your own. They are that good.' Madhushree went on to praise MM Keeravani specifically for his precision and directorial clarity during recordings. 'When you go to sing for M.M. Keeravani, you don't have to do anything, just follow whatever he says. All of them understand singers really well.' When asked about the key differences between South Indian and Bollywood music industries, Madhushree didn't hesitate to point out a cultural distinction she finds admirable. 'There, everyone works according to time. If you're called at 1 pm, the session starts at exactly 1. They are extremely punctual. They follow rules and regulations. That's the main difference.'
