Hawaiian Airlines plane evacuated after U.S Navy servicemember made bomb threat, officials say
A Hawaiian Airlines flight was evacuated after a U.S Navy servicemember on board made bomb threats, moments before it was set to take off from San Diego International Airport, officials say.
John Stea, 35, was charged with making a false bomb threat and falsely reporting a security threat, the Port of San Diego Harbor Police Department said Tuesday.
A U.S. Navy public affairs officer told NBC News that Stea, a first-class electronics technician, is assigned to Maritime Expeditionary Security Group One.
The Airbus A330 bound for Honolulu had just started pulling away from the tarmac at around 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, when 'the flight attendant informed the captain of the plane about the potential threat,' said police.
The suspect is alleged to have told a flight attendant on board Hawaiian Airlines Flight HA15 that 'the passenger next to him had a bomb'.
The flight attendant quickly informed the captain, forcing all 293 people onboard to deplane and be transported by bus to a safe area.
Officials said Police K-9s were brought on board to clear the aircraft and check all carry-on and checked luggage.
Nothing of concern was found on board.
Police said there were no further threats to the public at San Diego International Airport, and operations continued normally for the rest of the day.
'Harbor Police reminds the public that maliciously reporting a false bomb threat is against the law and can result in fines and up to one year's incarceration in county jail or state prison if convicted,' the statement read.
The incident was responded to by the Port of San Diego Harbor Police Maritime Tactical SWAT team, the K-9 team, the Joint Terrorism Task Force, and the San Diego Fire Department to attend the scene.

Captain charged after NYC boat explosion leaves 22 victims injured or swimming for their lives
A man was arrested after a boat exploded on the Long Island Sound in New York City, forcing more than 20 people to jump into the water. Officials say three people were injured and 19 others were forced to swim for their lives from the blaze after it took over the ship. The boat caught fire around 8:30pm on Saturday night while out on the Sound near City Island, in the Bronx, with first responders rushing to the scene. Images shared on social media shows thick plumes of smoke billowing from the vessel. Another clip shows the fire taking over the rear of the boat, with everyone onboard running for the front of the ship. Three people were pulled from the waters while the remainder managed to make their way to a nearby island where they waited to be taken back to shore by the Coast Guard. One person is in a critical condition, another serious and the third is stable, with the captain of the ship being charged with operating the vessel while intoxicated. Joshua Brito, 33, of the Bronx was hit with a DWI and reckless endangerment in relation to the incident, the NYPD said. Those injured onboard were all adults, with their ages ranging from 18 to 58, police said. Sources have told The New York Post that the inferno was started due to an explosion on board, but officials have yet to identify an official cause. One witness told the outlet: 'The only thing I saw was a bunch of smoke while walking down the block. It was very thick heavy black smoke.' New York City Fire Department Assistant Chief Michael Meyers said in a statement: 'Marine 4 gave a verbal for a boat fire and multiple people in the water to the Bronx dispatcher. 'At that point, the Bronx dispatcher had land units respond to come into City Island and begin to accept patients. 'Marine 4 grabbed three people out of the water. At that point, they transported them to one of the docks that was close by, where Engine 70 was waiting and EMS was waiting as well to begin CPR on the victims.' Meyers added: 'The other 19 folks swam to Hart Island. They were just off the east end of Hart Island, and then they were picked up by the NYPD Coast Guard and FDNY boats and transported back over to the docks at the Yacht Club on City Island. 'This just goes to show you what a coordinated effort happens between our marine units, our land units, and our EMS units to get here to help save lives, by responding in here, by communicating well, and by working with our City partners to help ensure that we protect the people of the City of New York.' The Coast Guard identified the ship as being a 44ft powerboat with an enclosed cabin. Brito's arraignment was pending in Bronx Criminal Court on Sunday.

Drummer of rock band faces new charges in child pornography case
The former drummer of Canadian indie rock band The New Pornographers has been hit with more disturbing allegations in a child pornography case. Joe Seiders, 44, was arrested in April after he was accused of recording an 11-year-old boy using the bathroom in a Chick-fil-A restaurant in California. Now, two more minors have come forward and accused Seiders of more unsettling accusations. The drummer has been additionally charged with committing lewd acts with a minor by force or fear, using or coercing a minor to produce child pornography, possession of child pornography, annoying/molesting a child, and invasion of privacy. On Monday April 7, Seiders was accused of recording the young boy with his cell phone while he used the restroom of the Palm Desert Chick-fil-A. Then two days later, the Palm Desert Sheriff's Station received a second report at the same restaurant of a man following young boys in and out of the bathroom. When deputies arrived they found Seiders and he was arrested. After serving search warrants, the Sheriff's Office linked Seiders to both incidents alongside additional crimes, including child pornography. 'Evidence was located implicating him in the two reported incidents, along with additional crimes, including possessing child pornography,' the news release read. The New Pornographers has yet to address the new allegations against the drummer. Following Seiders's initial charges making headlines, his bandmates released a joint statement and said they have cut ties with the drummer. They wrote: 'Everyone in the band is absolutely shocked, horrified, and devastated by the news of the charges against Joe Seiders - and we have immediately severed all ties with him. Our hearts go out to everyone who has been impacted by his actions.' Seiders has been a part of the Canadian indie rock band since 2014. The group was first formed in 1997, and the current members are Neko Case, Carl Newman, John Collins, Todd Fancey, and Kathryn Calder. Their former members include Destroyer frontman Dan Bejar and Grammy nominee Kurt Dahle. The New Pornographers performed at Coachella in 2007 and 2011. When their longtime drummer Dahle left in 2014, he was replaced by Seiders. He toured with the band and performed on their three most recent studio albums.
