State may receive above normal rainfall in June
Patna: The state is likely to receive above normal rainfall in June. As per the monsoon forecast issued by Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon this year is likely to be encouraging for the entire country.
For the state of Bihar, the forecast is even more positive, suggesting that the rainfall during monsoon this year is likely to be above normal, more than 111% of Long Period Average (LPA).
Most of the districts of the state are already witnessing pre monsoon activities. Kishanganj, Katihar, Bhagalpur and Banka are likely to receive heavy rainfall on Thursday, along with thunderstorms and lightning activity.
On Friday, there are chances of very heavy rainfall in some areas of Araria, Kishanganj, Purnia and Katihar.
Heavy rainfall, lightning and strong winds at 40-50 km per hour might blow in some parts of Supaul, Saharsa, Madhepura, Khagaria, Bhagalpur, Jamui and Banka.
An official said, "A low pressure area has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal, near the Odisha coast. Along with this, a cyclonic circulation extends up to approximately 7.6 km above sea level in this region, tilting southwards with increasing height. According to forecasts, this weather system is likely to move gradually northwards over the next 24 hours and is expected to intensify into a depression over the northern Bay of Bengal".

Patna, along with most of the southern districts of the state, will receive isolated rainfall at one or two places for the next two days, with temperature in the range of 34-36 degrees celsius. Gopalganj recorded the maximum temperature at 40.8 degrees celsius on Wednesday, while Darbhanga recorded the minimum at 25 degrees celsius.

Thundershowers sweep city, likely over next few days too
1 2 3 Pune: Thundershowers accompanied by strong gusty winds swept across several parts of Pune city on Friday evening, bringing respite from heat. It started to rain around afternoon and the intensity varied in different localities, with some areas experiencing only light showers. India Meteorological Department (IMD) data said Pashan recorded the highest rainfall at 19.8mm, followed by Narayangoan at 18mm and Rajgurunagar at 17.5mm. Shivajinagar area received 15.2mm of rainfall, while the NDA area saw 7.5mm. Dhamdhere recorded 4.5mm, several areas including Koregaon Park, Nimgiri, Kurvande and Chinchwad received rainfall of just 0.5mm each. Malin recorded 1mm during the same period. Weather observations at 5.30pm on Friday revealed high humidity levels across monitoring stations. Shivajinagar reported 89% relative humidity, Lohegaon 77%, while Chinchwad, Magarpatta and Koregaon Park areas showed 86%, 82% and 91% relative humidity, respectively.
