Raipur: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, in his Independence Day address on Friday, pledged to eradicate Maoist insurgency from the Bastar region by March 31, 2026, and praised the efforts of security forces for their successful operations against the rebels in their strongholds. Speaking at the 79th Independence Day celebration at the Police Parade Ground in Raipur, he also announced that the Police Commissionerate system would soon be introduced in the state to further strengthen law enforcement. The CM highlighted the success of the government's aggressive anti-Naxal strategy, which combines intensive operations with a robust surrender policy. Since December 2023, over 450 Maoists have been neutralised, 1,578 arrested, and 1,589 surrendered. Prominent Maoist leaders, including Basavaraju and Sudhakar Reddy, were among those killed. Sai underscored the government's commitment to reaching the last mile, citing the transformation of Tadmetla, once the site of a deadly Maoist attack, into a hub of healthcare. India was born from vedas, says Governor
Chennai: Governor R N Ravi on Saturday stirred fresh controversy by saying India was born from vedas. At the 750th Avatara Jayanti of Sant Vishwa Mauli Shri Dnyaneshwar Maharaj, Ravi said, "Bharat is the only country in the world which was not born out of conquest or a powerful ruler or an army, but through knowledge from our vedas. HC dismisses plea to include Tamil as subject in KVs
Madurai: Madras high court has dismissed a petition seeking a direction to include Tamil as a subject from Class I to XII in Kendriya Vidyalaya schools across the state. The court was hearing a public interest litigation filed in 2020 by Ponkumar seeking a direction to amend Article 112 of the 'Education Code for Kendriya Vidyalayas' for this purpose. The petitioner also sought a direction to appoint Tamil teachers on a permanent basis in Kendriya Vidyalayas in the state. A division bench of Justice S M Subramaniam and Justice A D Maria Clete observed that prescription of syllabus is a decision to be taken by the academic council, and to be approved by the Union ministry of education. The court cannot issue any direction to interfere with the syllabus approved by the Centre or classes incorporated in the Education Code, more specifically, for Kendriya Vidyalaya schools, the judges observed and dismissed the petition.
