Samsung To Adopt AI Coding Assistant To Boost Developer Productivity

New Delhi: Samsung Electronics said on Sunday it will adopt an artificial intelligence (AI) coding assistant service called Cline next month to enhance productivity among its software development employees. In a recent internal notice, the company said it has launched a beta test of Cline for employees in the Device eXperience (DX) division, which includes its mobile, TV and home appliances businesses, reports Yonhap news agency. Cline is an open-source AI tool that helps developers write, edit and test code using simple natural language commands like "create a login function." Unlike conventional coding assistants limited to basic tasks, Cline can handle more complex software development processes, significantly boosting productivity. Samsung plans to continue beta testing through the end of this month and aims to launch the official version as early as next month. As part of its transition into an AI-driven company, Samsung has also established a dedicated AI productivity innovation group within its DX division. The new group serves as a central control tower, overseeing the development of companywide AI infrastructure and systems while supporting the implementation of AI tools across business divisions. Meanwhile, Samsung will hold executive-level meetings later this month to discuss business strategies for the second half of the year. The global strategy meetings for the company's electronics division are scheduled for June 17–19, according to the sources. Samsung holds these meetings twice a year, in June and December, led by the heads of each business division. They review regional and business-specific issues, as well as discuss next year's goals and sales strategies. This year's agenda is expected to include strategies for navigating rising global uncertainties, including the shifting trade policies of U.S. President Donald Trump's second administration. Participants will also assess supply chain vulnerabilities and consider region-specific responses, the sources said. Roh Tae-moon, acting head of the Device eXperience (DX) division, and Jun Young-hyun, head of the Device Solutions (DS) division, will preside over the meetings. As in previous years, Executive Chairman Lee Jae-yong is not expected to attend the meetings, they said. The DS division, which oversees Samsung's semiconductor business, is expected to hold in-depth discussions on sales strategies and ways to boost long-term competitiveness.

Getting visa from Croatia Game Of Thrones: 10 IIM-Calcutta friends since 1979 plan reunion, permit delays spoil dream trip; Rs 4 lakh loss each

NEW DELHI: Ten friends from IIM Calcutta in 1979 and went on to make it big in life. Now in their 70s, they decided to have a reunion. Eight of them, with their spouses, and the rest two planned a visit to their dream destination - Croatia - and were supposed to leave India on May 20. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Barring seven foreign citizens in a group of 18, eleven needed Schengen visas from Croatia for which they applied well in time between Feb 14 and March 12, as they were told the processing time was about two months. The group had planned to celebrate the 70th birthday of one of them on the scenic Adriatic coast. That was the plan. And this is what happened: The very tedious task of getting visas from Croatia in India meant only nine of them - including four US citizens, two French and one Australian - could leave for Croatia as per the plan. The remaining nine had to either cancel or alter their travel plans at a huge cost, ranging from Rs 4 lakh to Rs 6 lakh per person. In short, the reunion did not happen. "We and our family members were constantly writing to the Croatian embassy to issue the visas but they did not even respond. Our travel agent tried to help but could do nothing. My wife and I finally got our passports back from the Croatian embassy in Delhi and are now leaving for UK and US," said Mumbai-based Ramakrishnan Rajaram, 75, who retired as president of a big textile company on May 23. "My original plan was to go with my wife to Croatia and then head for UK and US. We are now skipping Croatia. Rescheduling our tickets has cost me Rs 4 lakh," Rajaram said, sad that the reunion did not work out. The group has had several reunions in different parts of the world earlier without facing an issue like this. "All the 11 Indians in our group of 18 had applied well in time for the visa. They have very limited slots. Two of our friends decided to stay a day longer in Switzerland than Croatia during this trip. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Because of that, they applied to the Swiss embassy and got their Schengen visa in 3-4 days. We had applied for our Schengen visas with the Croatian embassy but didn't receive any. We kept chasing once the two-month period got over but the embassy did not respond. At our age, we don't know if we can have another planned reunion like this," said Rajaram. Pune-based Nandu Kulkarni, who retired from a software company, and his wife were to join the trip. They gave their visa interview at VFS's Croatia counter on March 6 and submitted their passports along with all documents. When they did not get any intimation about their visa status after May 6, the 60 days needed for processing the visas, they sent reminders to the embassy. However, right till the day of travel, they did not hear from the embassy. They set out from Pune for Mumbai airport, hoping they would get their passports through the travel agency in time for their trip but had to return to Pune disappointed. "Rajaram and I have travelled extensively all over the world on business and on vacations. We never had this kind of experience with any country," Kulkarni said. Travel agents, on condition of anonymity, told TOI that getting a Croatian visa appointment is very difficult. "We advise our clients to get a Schengen visa from some other country for going to Croatia. The travel agents of these people should have advised them accordingly," they said. Croatia has emerged as a much-coveted destination, particularly after the hugely popular HBO serial, 'Game of Thrones', was shot in the historic town of Dubrovnik and other places there. Bollywood too has been heading for this small country The Croatian embassy was asked why applications for visas were disappearing into a black hole despite the growing popularity of their country that was once a part of erstwhile Yugoslavia but no comment was received. The CEO of a leading foreign airline said the entire thing was baffling. "Post Covid, almost all tourist destinations are trying hard to woo visitors from India. Here is an incredibly beautiful country that Indians would love to visit but it has made it difficult for them to do so," he said.

US markets, FII action among 7 factors that can steer D-Street this week

Indian benchmark indices ended the week with gains of 1%, marking their third consecutive weekly advance. The rally was driven by rate-sensitive sectors, including banking, auto, and real estate, following a surprise 50-basis-point repo rate cut by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Friday. A host of important domestic and global events lined up for the coming week are expected to influence stock market movements when trading resumes on Monday. ADVERTISEMENT On Friday, the Nifty jumped 252.15 points, or 1%, to close at 25,003.05. Commenting on the trend, Rupak De, Senior Technical Analyst at LKP Securities, noted that the RBI's policy bazooka sparked a sharp rally, helping the index close above the 25,000 mark for the first time in several sessions. This signaled growing optimism among market participants, he noted. 'Typically, a rally followed by consolidation often leads to an upward breakout. This time, too, we expect Nifty to break out of its recent consolidation range. On the higher side, resistance is seen at 25,150. A move beyond this level — or even a sustained close above 25,000 — could pave the way for a rally toward 25,350. On the downside, support is placed at 24,850. A breach below this level may weaken the ongoing rally and trigger some profit-booking,' De factors likely to impact market movement this week:US stocks rose on Friday after a better-than-expected jobs report eased concerns about the economy. Tesla also rebounded from a sharp decline the previous day, while technology stocks extended their gains. ADVERTISEMENT Indian markets are expected to take cues from Wall Street, which ended with strong gains on Friday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 42,762.90, up 443.13 points or 1.05%, while the S&P 500 rose 61.06 points or 1.03% to finish at 6,000.36. The Nasdaq Composite advanced 231.50 points or 1.2% to close at 19,529.90. Market action will largely depend on the behavior of foreign institutional investors (FIIs). On Friday, FIIs bought shares worth Rs 1,009.71 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers to the tune of Rs 9,342.48 crore. ADVERTISEMENT After being net buyers in April and May, FIIs have so far turned net sellers in June, offloading Indian equities worth Rs 8,749 has formed a bullish engulfing candle on the weekly chart as buying demand—on expected lines, emerged from the lower band of the past three weeks' consolidation range, indicating strength, Bajaj Broking Research said in a note. Nifty is currently positioned at the upper band of the consolidation range of 24,400–25,100. ADVERTISEMENT 'We expect the index to move above the upper band of the range and head higher towards the immediate hurdle of 25,250 and then 25,500 in the coming weeks. Any dips should be viewed as a buying opportunity, with key short-term support placed at 24,700 and 24,400—levels that coincide with the previous breakout zone, the last three weeks' lows, and a key retracement area,' the brokerage added. The Indian rupee strengthened modestly on Friday as the RBI's steepest rate cut in five years boosted local equities, helping the currency gain despite the dollar firming against major peers. The rupee closed at 85.6250 against the U.S. dollar, up from its previous close of 85.79. However, it declined 0.2% for the week. ADVERTISEMENT India's benchmark 10-year bond yield fluctuated between gains and losses as traders absorbed the central bank's policy shift from an 'accommodative' to a 'neutral' stance. The yield was last quoted slightly higher at 6.2237%. Meanwhile, dollar-rupee forward premiums dropped following the rate cut, with the 1-year implied yield falling by 10 basis points to 1.81%. A flurry of corporate actions is lined up this week, including record dates for dividends, stock splits, rights issues, and bonus shares across a five-day trading window.
