‘Always sincere': Bella Astillah says glad Syed Saddiq's integrity paid off with acquittal, shuts down engagement talk
KUALA LUMPUR, June 25 — Singer and actress Bella Astillah said she was relieved that the ordeal surrounding Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman's court case was finally over.
Speaking to reporters today at the Court of Appeal (CoA), where the Muar MP was acquitted of all four charges of corruption and money laundering against him, 31-year-old Bella said there are no talks of an engagement between the two for now.
'I think since we just heard the decision and we're here for that we will focus on this for now,' she said.
'Any plans for the future and such, as I've said before, I will inform and share my plans then,' she added.
Bella said that it had been a very difficult time for Syed Saddiq and his family, and that they were all grateful for the outcome.
'He is very sincere in everything he does, he does it properly and with integrity. I feel that's the reason he got a favourable decision today,' she added.

Syed Saddiq, 32, was acquitted today by a unanimous three-member Court of Appeal panel led by Justice Datuk Ahmad Zaidi Ibrahim, with Justices Datuk Azman Abdullah and Datuk Noorin Badaruddin concurring.
He had been convicted in November 2023 on four charges — abetting criminal breach of trust involving RM1 million, misappropriating RM120,000 in party funds, and two counts of money laundering involving RM50,000 each allegedly transferred from his personal account.
The offences were said to have occurred between 2018 and 2020.
The High Court had sentenced him to seven years in jail, two strokes of the cane, and a RM10 million fine.
However, the Court of Appeal today ruled that the trial judge had seriously erred by failing to properly evaluate the defence's evidence and by not establishing whether the withdrawals were carried out dishonestly or linked to unlawful activities.
As a result, the panel set aside both the conviction and sentence, clearing Syed Saddiq of all charges.

THE Court of Appeal has acquitted and discharged Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman of four charges involving criminal breach of trust (CBT), misappropriation of property and money laundering linked to funds from Angkatan Bersatu Anak Muda (Armada). A three-member bench comprising Justices Datuk Ahmad Zaidi Ibrahim, Datuk Azman Abdullah and Datuk Noorin Badaruddin allowed Syed Saddiq's appeal to overturn his conviction and sentence of seven years' jail, two strokes of the cane, and a RM10 mil fine imposed by the Kuala Lumpur High Court on Nov 9, 2023. 'We find that the prosecution failed to prove the abetment charge against the appellant (Syed Saddiq). 'The evidence presented was not credible and did not support the misappropriation charge under Section 403. Additionally, the money laundering charges under AMLA could not be sustained. 'Therefore, the appellant is acquitted and discharged of all charges,' said Justice Noorin, who read out the unanimous decision. Syed Saddiq, 32, had been accused of abetting Armada's former assistant treasurer, Rafiq Hakim Razali, in committing criminal breach of trust involving RM1 mil. The alleged offence was said to have occurred at CIMB Bank Berhad, Menara CIMB KL Sentral, on March 6, 2020, under Section 406 of the Penal Code. For the second charge, he was accused of misappropriating RM120,000 from the Maybank Islamic Berhad account of Armada Bumi Bersatu Enterprise by instructing Rafiq Hakim to dispose of the funds. The act was alleged to have taken place at Malayan Banking Berhad, Taman Pandan Jaya, between April 8 and 21, 2018, under Section 403 of the Penal Code. Additionally, Syed Saddiq faced two charges of money laundering involving the transfer of RM50,000 each from his Maybank Islamic account to his Amanah Saham Bumiputera account. These transactions, allegedly proceeds of unlawful activities, were said to have occurred at a bank in Taman Perling, Johor Bahru, on June 16 and 19, 2018. MACC remands NGO chief over alleged money laundering, misuse of charity funds
PUTRAJAYA, June 25 (Bernama) — A chairman of a non-governmental organisation (NGO) has been remanded on suspicion of involvement in money laundering and using proceeds of corruption through personal accounts, his company, and those of relatives and associates. According to a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) source, the male suspect in his 30s was arrested at around 2.30pm yesterday while giving a statement at the MACC headquarters here. 'The suspect is believed to have committed the acts between 2015 and 2025, and previously the suspect had been remanded for a case investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009 related to abuse of power and misappropriation of NGO funds at the suspect's workplace,' said the source. Magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin granted a four-day remand, until this Saturday, after an application was made by the MACC at the Magistrate's Court here today. Meanwhile, MACC Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Division director Norhaizam Muhammad, when contacted, confirmed the arrest. He said the case is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLATFPUAA 2001).

Dr Zaliha: RM4b Madani City to be fully transferred to government after 25 years, no public funds involved
KUALA LUMPUR, June 25 — The government will take full ownership of the proposed Madani City in Putrajaya 25 years after its completion, Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa said today. She further said the RM4 billion development will be fully funded and maintained by the developer, Putrajaya Holdings, under a Build-Lease-Maintain-Transfer (BLMT) model. 'This project does not waste public funds, as claimed by some,' she wrote in a statement posted on Facebook. Dr Zaliha said Madani City would also provide 10,000 new housing units for civil servants, addressing a current backlog of more than 17,000 unfulfilled applications. She stressed that the development is a necessity, not a luxury, as demand for government quarters far exceeds existing supply. Madani City, located in Precinct 19 of the federal administrative captial, spans just 102 acres — about 0.8 per cent of Putrajaya's total land area. 'It will not replace Putrajaya,' she said, countering what she described as a common misconception. She added that the project was designed in line with the government's vision of a clean, healthy, advanced, safe and eco-friendly city. The name 'Madani' reflects values of humanity, balance, justice and sustainability, and is not a political label, she added. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the Madani City project on June 3, and is expected to officiate the groundbreaking ceremony tomorrow.
