Shah meets officers, commends them for success in anti-Naxal ops
New Delhi, June 7 (UNI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday met senior police officers who played a pivotal role in the recent anti-Naxal operations and congratulated them for their strategic leadership and effective execution.
"Met officers who played a crucial role in the recent operations conducted against Naxalism and congratulated them on the historic success of these missions," the Home Minister said in a post on X.
Expressing deep appreciation for the courage and dedication of the security forces, Shah stated, "I am also eager to meet the brave soldiers who made these operations successful with their courage, and I will soon visit Chhattisgarh to meet them."
Reaffirming the government's unwavering stance against Naxalism, Shah said, "The Modi government is committed to freeing India from the scourge of Naxalism."

1 2 Nagpur: Maharashtra's elite C-60 commandos are gearing up for a final assault on Abujmarh, tottering headquarters of the People's Liberation Guerrilla Army, buoyed by CM Devendra Fadnavis's historic visit to the area on Friday. In Odisha, police have intensified searches in Charmal forests of Sambalpur after reports about the influx of Maoists pushed out by security forces' offensives in neighbouring Chhattisgarh. The spotlight, though, remains on Abujmarh, where Operation Clean-up aims to decimate the last vestiges of the military wing of the five-decade old Maoist movement in Maharashtra's eastern flank, say top sources in the state's anti-Naxalite apparatus. A top guerrilla on the radar is central committee member Mallojula Venugopal Reddy, alias Bhupathi or Sonu. Intelligence inputs suggested he was holed up deep inside the booby-trapped forested hills of Abujmarh and spotted a few km off Kawande -- the hamlet CM Fadnavis visited two days ago. Although Bhupathi had appealed to the Centre for a ceasefire and despite his wife Tarakka surrendering a year ago, the veteran may opt to fight till his last breath. Apart from the uncertain terrain, the battle-hardened C60 commandos are also concerned about rains which would make the hills unapproachable with numerous overflowing rivulets and nullahs. Other Maoists on the hit list are Kadari Satyanarayana Reddy alias Kosa, Madvi Hidma, Devuji alias Devji and CPI (Maoist) general secretary Ganapathy. They are frequently shifting bases in Abujmarh and in the three-state junction of Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Telangana. Another top leader, Prabhakar, head of the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee, is also a challenge for the forces. Kosa, a veteran revolutionary, and Bhupathi are considered the ideological fountainhead and brother of the late Maoist leader Mallojula Koteswara Rao (Kishenji). Intelligence reports suggest the duo is desperately changing locations to evade capture, moving through the treacherous terrain of Abujmarh, a region known for its inaccessibility and strategic importance to the Maoists. Sources claimed the youngest among the last few politburo members, Hidma, heading "Battalion One" in Chhattisgarh, is likely to have suffered injuries in gun battles with forces last month and has gone underground. "All the top Telugu leaders of the Central Committee and Politburo are 60 years and above, which has made them unsuitable for this challenge," said a top cop. Pressure on top cadres intensified after 12 senior Maoists surrendered to Gadchiroli police on Friday, a significant setback for the outfit. The surrendered cadres, reportedly from the Maad area, are believed to have provided critical intelligence about the movements of Kosa and Bhupathi. In Odisha's Sambalpur, intelligence inputs suggested suspicious movement of some rebels from Chhattisgarh, prompting the searches. "It is not fully confirmed if the rebels dispersed and are trying to shift their bases. Considering their dwindling numbers in Odisha, it is not likely that they will mount offensive action against forces," said a senior police officer. Earlier, DGP Y B Khurania said Odisha police are working hard to nip Left-wing extremism in the bud, reiterating the police effort to meet the Centre's target of eliminating LWE violence by March 2026.

Bengaluru stampede: HD Kumaraswamy slams Karnataka government over premature nod for RCB celebrations
Bengaluru: Union minister and JD(S) chief HD Kumaraswamy Saturday alleged that the Karnataka govt had "pre-planned" the RCB IPL victory celebrations and official permissions were granted hours before the final match had even begun. He said this raised serious concerns over political and bureaucratic accountability on the stampede. "The FIR on the stampede incident says permission was sought for the June 4 victory celebrations at the stadium even before the match started on June 3 (at Ahmedabad). The final started at 7.30pm (on June 3), but an application was submitted at 6pm for next day's celebrations ... did they dream about winning the match? Another application was submitted to the department of personnel and administrative reforms (DPAR) for the celebrations in front of Vidhana Soudha. .. who was behind it? Who put pressure on the police commissioner at 7.30am that day (June 4) for permission?" Kumaraswamy asked. He demanded that chief minister Siddaramaiah, his deputy DK Shivakumar, and home minister G Parameshwara take moral and administrative responsibility. "What was the need to felicitate the team within 24 hours of the team's victory? Was such a slipshod felicitation needed?" he asked. Echoing the criticism, Union minister and BJP's Bangalore North MP Shobha Karandlaje called the felicitation a misuse of govt space. "The grand stairs of Vidhana Soudha have been reserved for swearing-in or govt ceremonies all these years. You (Congress govt) used it for a private team (RCB)," she said. Holding the CM and DCM directly responsible, she said: "Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar have blood on their hands. They are trying to wash the blood and wipe it on police officers. CMO counters, says permission was given only for Soudha venue The chief minister's office (CMO) Saturday said official permission for RCB victory celebrations was granted only for the Vidhana Soudha venue on June 4 and not before the IPL final. Responding to Kumaraswamy's allegations that the govt had "pre-planned" the event even before RCB's final match on June 3, the CMO said the request letter was received by the undersecretary, DPAR (executive). "Permission for celebrations was formally accorded only for the Vidhana Soudha venue and not for the cricket stadium, after getting the report from Vidhana Soudha DCP on June 4." the CMO said.

More water: High court rejects Punjab's plea against May 2 water order, says state free to approach Centre
Chandigarh: Punjab and Haryana high court dismissed the Punjab govt's plea to modify its May 6 order, directing the state to comply with the May 2 decision of the meeting —chaired by the Union home secretary—to release additional water to Haryana from the Bhakra Dams. However, the court said Punjab could refer the matter to the central govt for further consideration. "The state of Punjab is not left remediless, since it can always make a reference to the central govt in terms of Explanation – II to Rule 7 of 1974 Rules as per law...," the HC held. Regarding Punjab's ground of BBMB being incompetent to decide the issue once the matter was referred to the govt of India via a letter dated April 29 by Haryana, the HC held that the letter dated April 29 does not relate to any dissent by Haryana but contains a request to the chairman of BBMB to refer the matter to the central govt for execution of the minutes of the meeting dated April 28 of the technical committee of the board. "As such, this letter cannot be treated as a reference to the central govt. Consequently, Haryana's letter dated April 29 does not fall within the realm of 'material fact', non-disclosure of which is hence inconsequential," the HC held in its detailed order released on Saturday. The state claimed that the direction in question was passed on account of concealment of material facts by BBMB in the petition. According to Punjab's plea, in case of any policy decision or where the rights of any state are affected, the matter is to be referred to the central govt through the chairman of the board. However, despite the matter being referred to the central govt for deciding the issue under Rule 7 of BBMB Rules 1974, and no decision thereupon being taken, the board again convened a meeting on April 30, wherein, without any adjudication by the competent authority, it decided the issue of releasing 8,500 cusecs of water to Haryana.
