The New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) Golden Jubilee 10 K run will be held on August 31 at 6 a.m.
The run will be held in 10K, 5K, and 3K categories. In a press release, the NMPA said the event will be celebration of health, fitness and community participation. It was also to remember contribution of NMPA in the development of the region and the nation in the last five decades.
Speaking at the launch of the event logo on Monday, NMPA Chairman A.V. Ramana said the New Mangalore Port has grown from handling a modest cargo of 1 lakh tonnes in 1974 to handle over 46 million tonnes today. The port was set to handle 50 million tonnes of cargo by 2025-26 and achieve projected profit, after tax, of ₹550 crore. The NMPA was committed to inclusive growth and the growth of the port was interlinked with development of the local units, including MRPL and MCF, he said.
The Golden Jubilee Run was a symbolic beginning to an year of reflection, gratitude and growth, Mr. Ramana said.

Ramana inaugurated newly installed Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Station (CAAQMS) inside the port area during the Independence Day on Friday. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Ramana said cargo handling at NMPA grew from 36 million tonnes (MT) in 2019 to 46.01 MT in 2024-25. Key recent initiatives include the completion of major infrastructure works, technological upgrades such as a 360° radar scanning system and faceless entry, and the establishment of a state-of-the-art multi-speciality hospital under the public-private partnership model. He also announced enhanced welfare measures for employees and retirees, including equalising certain benefits, a pension portal, and a forthcoming mobile medical app. On the occasion, Mr. Ramana handed over the sanction order for providing a patrol vehicle and computer systems to the Panambur Police Station to enhance their operational capabilities. The celebrations began with the garlanding of the statues of Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Ullal Srinivasa Mallya. Later, he inspected the ceremonial parade contingent comprising CISF personnel, NMPA Fire Service personnel, students from NMPT English Medium High School, Kendriya Vidyalaya no. 1, and private security personnel.
