Ten remanded for four days over assault on Form Five student in Seremban
KUALA LUMPUR, May 11 — Ten individuals aged between 17 and 31 have been remanded for four days starting today to assist investigations into the assault of a Form Five student in Paroi, Seremban early Friday morning.
Seremban district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Hatta Che Din said the remand order was obtained from the Seremban Magistrates' Court after all suspects were arrested yesterday.
'The remand, which lasts until Wednesday, is to facilitate the investigation. No new arrests have been made as of noon today, but efforts to track down other suspects are ongoing.
'We urge witnesses or anyone with information to come forward and assist with the investigation,' he said in a statement today.
He also reminded the public not to circulate images or videos of the incident on social media, as doing so could interfere with the investigation and prosecution process.
Earlier, videos and photos of the bloodied victim went viral, believed to have been attacked by a group of men.
The incident reportedly occurred around 3am Friday, allegedly triggered by a misunderstanding when one of the suspects believed the victim had harmed his younger brother.
A police report was lodged by the victim's father.
The case is being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting.

Police shoot dead armed suspect in Bayan Lepas; arrest eight others tied to 25 robberies across Penang
GEORGE TOWN, May 15 — A 35-year-old man was shot dead by police early this morning after he opened fire at officers during a crime prevention operation in Bayan Lepas, Penang. Penang police chief Datuk Hamzah Ahmad said the incident occurred at about 4.05am when officers approached a car parked along Lintang Bukit Jambul. 'Officers from the Criminal Investigation Department were on patrol when they noticed the vehicle and moved in to conduct a check,' he said in a statement. Hamzah said the officers identified themselves, but the man suddenly exited the vehicle and fired at them. 'The police returned fire in self-defence,' he said, adding that the suspect was killed at the scene. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a pistol with three rounds of ammunition, an iron rod, two rattan sticks, two machetes, 15 packets of suspected methamphetamine weighing about 22.5g, a signal jammer, and various tools and clothing believed to be used in housebreaking activities. Hamzah said the deceased was believed to be a Malaysian with prior records for 19 criminal and 15 drug-related offences. Following the incident, police arrested seven men and one woman in connection with the case. All eight are believed to have been involved in criminal activities with the deceased. 'Four of the suspects have prior criminal records, while the remaining four do not,' he said. With the arrests, police believe they have solved 25 cases of robbery, housebreaking and laundromat break-ins around Penang, involving estimated losses of approximately RM500,000. The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years, and Section 8 of the Firearms Act 1960, which provides for a maximum sentence of seven years' imprisonment.

Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio could face criminal proceedings for allegedly sharing a sex tape involving a minor. On Wednesday, the San Bartolome de Tirajana court in Gran Canaria confirmed an investigation into the allegations had concluded and that four footballers, including Asencio could face criminal proceedings for allegedly recording and distributing videos of sexual content of a minor and one other woman. The case relates to an alleged incident at a beach club in the south of the Spanish island in 2023. The three other players (Ferran Ruiz, Juan Rodriguez, and Andres Garcia) were arrested in September 2023. After Asencio was called to give testimony as a witness, he then became part of the Guardia Civil (Civil Guard, Spanish law enforcement) investigation. At that point, the club said 'a Castilla player and three Real Madrid C players' had made statements to the Guardia Civil 'relating to a complaint about the alleged broadcasting of a private video via WhatsApp'. 'When the club has detailed knowledge of the facts, we will take the appropriate measures,' it added. The Athletic reported in February that a Spanish court rejected an appeal on behalf of Asencio for the provisional dismissal of the case. Court documents during that appeal confirmed that one of the women was under the age of 16 when the incident took place. The case has now been sent to the Public Prosecutor's Office, which can file an indictment and request the opening of a trial against the players or request the case to be closed.
