Ferrand-Prevot becomes first French rider to clinch Tour de France Femmes title
The 33-year-old of team Visma–Lease a Bike held steady through the 124.1km ride from Praz-sur-Arly to Chatel, before launching a decisive attack in the last seven kilometres.
Vollering (FDJ–Suez) stayed in a group with Ferrand-Prevot for the majority of the ninth stage, but could not break away to make up her deficit of more than three minutes coming into the last day.
Ferrand-Prevot, who won gold in women's cross-country mountain biking at last year's Paris Games, had taken the yellow jersey from Kimberley Le Court on Saturday.
Lorena Wiebes (Team SD Worx–Protime), who has led the points classification since stage three, did not chase the leading group and was on track to win the green jersey to deny Dutch compatriot Marianne Vos (Visma-Lease a Bike) a third Tour title in the category.

Olympian Frazer Clarke backs Derbyshire boxing club in fight to stay open
An olympian is among those backing a campaign to raise money to rebuild an amateur boxing club in Derbyshire. Those at South Derbyshire Boxing Academy say they are facing closure, unless they can find the thousands of pounds needed for a new building. The club's current home is falling apart and, although they now have permission to build a new club, it's not a straightforward process. The new building would be on former mining land and before it is built officials want the club to pay for an inspection which involves boring into the ground. The club, which only has around 50 members, needs around £7,500 to move things forward - which it says it can't afford. The campaign for help to fund the new building is now being backed by the local MP, as well as Olympic boxer Frazer Clarke. Speaking to ITV News Central the Olympic bronze medallist said: "Places like this, they are the backbone of the sport. "For me, personally, the memories and what it did for me as a youngster growing up really did pave my way for the future. I was very lucky to represent the country at the Olympic Games but without places like this that never happens. "All the superstars you see over the TV, without places like this they are never there and these are huge celebrities that people are fans of", he added. Those at the club explained why it is so important to them Those who train at the club say it is a vital part of their lives, supporting them with both their physical and mental health. The club caters for all ages and backgrounds and one mother who trains along with her son said the closure would be a "massive loss" for her family. "This is a big part of our lives now and we really enjoy coming here", explained Iaja Bondareskeves. "Losing this place would mean we would no longer belong to this club, to this group of people with the right mindset, who have helped us both to develop physically and mentally. She added: "It's very important for young people to grow in a group of people with the right approach to live - it would be a massive loss for me and my kid as well." Samantha Niblett, the Labour MP for South Derbyshire, has joined the campaign and has given the club some hope. She said: "This club is fantastic in terms of giving people a sense of purpose and a really great way to keep fit and keep their mental health good. "I'm hugely supportive and the local council have told me they are keen to support them going forward", she added. Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Mining Remediation Authority, said: 'Extensive coalfields exist across Great Britain and approximately 25% of homes and businesses are located above former coal mines. 'To keep people safe and ensure stable development, it is important to take appropriate consideration of the risks posed by coal mining features. 'We worked closely with the applicant for the proposed development to ensure the layout of the building would not be impacted by the presence of 3 mine shafts underneath the site. 'Due to the potential for the presence of unrecorded shallow mine workings, recommendations have been made to the local planning authority that intrusive site investigations are required in order to establish the exact ground conditions beneath the site. 'These site investigations should be carried out by a competent contractor and the results should be interpreted by a qualified person so that an appropriate remedial strategy can be developed if required. 'As standard practice the drilling contractor applied for a permit to undertake these ground investigations in July 2025.'

Michael ‘Venom' Page on the frustrations that led to surprise fight with Jared Cannonier at UFC 319
Michael 'Venom' Page has explained his decision to stay at middleweight for his next UFC fight, despite previously expressing an intention to drop back to welterweight. A longtime welterweight fighter in Bellator, 'MVP' debuted in the UFC in the same division in March 2024, outpointing Kevin Holland. But after losing a decision to Ian Machado Garry last June, Page's next move was to head up to middleweight. There, the Briton proved his doubters wrong by outpointing the highly-touted Shara Magomedov in February. And although Page told The Independent before that bout, 'I'm fixated on getting business done [at welterweight],' his next fight will also take place at middleweight. The kickboxing specialist, 38, will face former title challenger Jared Cannonier at UFC 319 on 16 August. 'I want all the smoke, I want to go where the smoke is,' Page told The Independent on Wednesday (6 August). 'It feels like the guys in the welterweight division are not carrying any fire. It seems to be very political, it's a bit too technical about who fights who. 'There's even more people with even more claims of getting that title shot [than at middleweight], so a lot of people don't want to take those dangerous fights if they don't have to. And to add to the welterweight division, Islam is moving up as well now, which just holds up the division even more.' Page was referring to Islam Makhachev, who vacated the lightweight title in May with the intention of challenging for the welterweight belt. Makhachev is due to get his chance later this year, facing champion Jack Della Maddalena – potentially at UFC 322 in November. 'In the middleweight division, there are just a lot of hungry guys wanting to make it to the top,' Page continued. 'Everyone, it seems, is more excited to just fight and make big fights happen, continue to prove themselves. Even if they feel like they're next in line [for a title shot], they're still willing to take that extra fight to push them closer. "I was just tried of waiting, so I said: 'I've done it once [at middleweight], let me try it again.' Until things are cleared up down there, I'll just get some good fights at middleweight." Discussing how comfortable he felt at 185lb in his bout with Magomedov, Page added: 'I felt really good. It's weird, because most of your camp [even at welterweight], you're actually sparring at that weight [closer to 185lb]. So, although we cut down to whatever we cut down to, we never really stand around at [170lb]. So, it feels way more comfortable [at 185lb], because I've spent a lot more of my career – off-camera – at that weight.' Magomedov was the betting favourite against Page, entering that contest with an unbeaten record, but the latter's kickboxing capabilities trumped the Russian's. 'Even speaking to people afterwards, I knew he was the favourite,' Page said. 'I didn't go in there worried about that. I, and a lot of the British media, already knew it was a very good match-up for me. Anybody that's willing to stand in front of me is gonna have a problem.' Cannonier is also expected to stand in front of Page. The American, 41, is known for his heavy hands and previously fought at heavyweight and light-heavyweight. 'It'd be silly to overlook somebody of his calibre, who's fought absolutely everybody,' Page said. 'There's not really been one [fight] where he's been dominated. He's given all those names, every single one of those amazing fighters, a great fight. 'Heavyweight to light-heavyweight to middleweight, and I'm coming up to middleweight, so you know he's gonna be very strong. 'And he's a person that's going out on his shield. Even in his last fight: he got knocked down, it looked like it was going the other way, and he stuck in there, kept it going, then came back and won the fight himself.' Cannonier's last outing ended as a stoppage win over Gregory Rodrigues in February, with the 'Killa Gorilla' sealing the finish early in round four. With that, Cannonier snapped a two-fight losing streak. The American has fought a who's who of middleweights, from former champions Robert Whittaker, Sean Strickland, Anderson Silva and Israel Adesanya – who held the title when he beat Cannonier – to contenders Kelvin Gastelum, Marvin Vettori, Jack Hermansson and Nassourdine Imavov.

'Bang average' or a 'must keep'? - fans split on Dessers
We asked for your views on whether or not Rangers should let Cyriel Dessers go this what some of you said:Scott: Dessers has the mentality to be a Rangers striker, even if he does miss some absolute sitters. He reminds me a little bit of Andy Cole at Manchester United (showing my age) – he works hard for the team and gets a lot of stick for it in the bargain, but he is so resilient. The other strikers are just here for the ride. When the going gets tough, time and again we've seen them go Dessers is bang average if you wish to be kind. Not a top quality striker and better needed if Rangers are to go forwards this Dessers should stay. His movement and awareness is second to none in the Rangers squad. Wish I could say the same about Mohamed Diomande. Keeps giving the ball away in the wrong places and is not a patch on Nicolas Raskin. Lastly why did Russell Martin sign Max Aarons? He is absolutely We have got to keep Dessers because he knows how to score goals and leads the line brilliantly, and we must keep Hamza Igamane as Dessers needs to stay, a number nine with that many goals has got to stay. Who are they going to bring in at this late stage who will score more? Enough said. Love him or hate him, he is good enough for Dessers certainly showed himself to be a good target player for linking play, neither Igamane or Danilo can do this. However, Rangers need to get back up and stop messing around. Otherwise we are again going to fall short.
