Fort Belvedere explained: Inside the Windsor Great Park home linked to Prince William and Kate Middleton
Rumors say the Prince and Princess of Wales could move again. This time the chatter points to Fort Belvedere. It sits inside Windsor Great Park, not far from their current base at Adelaide Cottage.
There is no official confirmation yet. Reports stress that the talk is unconfirmed.
So what is Fort Belvedere? It began life in the 1750s as a hilltop lookout/folly designed by Henry Flitcroft at the southern edge of the park. In the 1820s it was rebuilt as a country house by Sir Jeffry Wyatville (who also oversaw the redesign of Windsor Castle under George IV). The mix explains why the place looks like a small fortress on the outside and a family home within.
The site has long views across the estate - hence the name Belvedere, 'beautiful view.' The grounds run to about 59 acres, with gardens, water features, a pool and a tennis court.
Queen Victoria used to ride out for tea here. Later the house opened to visitors for a time in the 19th century. It returned to private use in the 20th century.
The best-known resident was Edward VIII. He moved in while Prince of Wales, and he kept it after he became king.

The house became the stage for a defining royal moment. On 10 December 1936, he signed his abdication papers at Fort Belvedere. The decision cleared the way for his brother to become George VI and changed the line of succession.
Edward also treated the place like a true home. He added a swimming pool and other upgrades in the 1930s. Contemporary reports admired the gardens and the layout. They read like a tour of a private retreat rather than a state site.
After the abdication the fort fell quiet. It later passed to new tenants on long leases from the Crown Estate. In the early 1980s the lease went to the Weston family, who still hold it today. The freehold remains with the Crown Estate, so the property is private and not open to visitors.
Why would the Wales family want it now? Space and privacy are the obvious draws. The plot is large. There are outbuildings that could house security and staff.
The location keeps the family close to schools in the area and to Windsor Castle. It also sits inside a controlled park, which helps with movement and protection. Any move would also require an arrangement with the current leaseholders.
There is also the emotional layer. The house carries heavy royal history. Some will see that as a reason to stay away. Others will see it as a link to the past that can be given a new chapter.
Either way, it would be a move into a building that has already shaped the story of the monarchy.
What happens next is simple. The talk may fade, or a move may take shape. Until there is a formal statement, treat it as a possibility, not a plan. Fort Belvedere will remain a curiosity for many - a rare mix of folly, family house, and royal landmark, tucked behind the trees of Windsor Great Park.

Sharmila Tagore REACTS to Supreme Court ruling on relocating Delhi-NCR stray dogs: 'The decision is like door closing on voiceless...'
Sharmila Tagore and Randeep Hooda expressed worries about the Supreme Court's order to move stray dogs in Delhi-NCR to shelters. They advocated for a humane, balanced approach. Tagore called the decision a closure for the voiceless. Hooda welcomed the court's reconsideration. Both stars suggested long-term solutions like neutering and adoption. Tagore recently starred in 'Puratawn'. Hooda's latest film is 'Jaat'. Sharmila Tagore and Randeep Hooda have voiced their concerns over the Supreme Court 's recent directive to relocate all stray dogs in Delhi-NCR to shelter homes. Both stars urged a more humane and balanced approach, calling for long-term solutions that protect both people and animals while addressing the so-called 'dog menace. ' 'Decision is like a door closing on the voiceless' In a video shared by Anish Gawande, National Spokesperson of the NCP, on X, the veteran actress said, 'Today, we are facing a crisis of conscience. The recent Supreme Court decision is like a door closing on the voiceless and defenceless of our society. I wish the safety and sanctity of life was at the heart of the judgement.' Calling for a more balanced response, she added, 'I wish a more nuanced and calibrated approach had been taken towards the systemic flaws that are at the root of the so-called dog menace. In silencing those who cannot protect themselves, we risk losing something essential within ourselves.' Appeal to reconsider the order She urged the government to reconsider the order, saying, 'This need of experience over sympathy has caused tremendous harm. I hope and pray the Supreme Court will try and find a fine balance embedded in justice.' Responding to the widespread criticism, Chief Justice Gavai agreed on 13 August, to review the Court's order. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Use an AI Writing Tool That Actually Understands Your Voice Grammarly Install Now Undo Randeep Hooda weighs in Reacting to this development, actor Randeep Hooda welcomed the reconsideration, tweeting: "So glad to hear that the Honourable CJI has agreed to look into the ruling about stray dogs in NCR. He acknowledged the complexity of the issue, "Are stray dogs our collective community humanitarian responsibility? Yes. Can they be a menace? Yes. I love animals — but will I be able to justify it to a family that has lost a loved one to rabies or serious injuries? No." Long-term solutions recommended Randeep warned that mass impounding is neither practical nor humane. 'War 2' advance box office report: The Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR film earns Rs 16 crore gross in advance ticket sales, momentum picks as Telugu markets opens
'War 2' is one of the most anticipated movies of the year. The Hrithik Roshan , Jr NTR , Kiara Advani film is also facing a tough competition from Rajikinanth's 'Coolie' which is already having a huge advance booking. While earlier, the advance sales for 'War 2' were not extra-ordinary, the film has picked momentum just as the openings in Telugu markets have opened. Ahead of the opening of bookings in the Telugu states, 'War 2' had already grossed around ₹10 crore (with block seats) for its Hindi version's first day. However, once sales began in the Telugu markets, momentum picked up sharply, with BookMyShow logging over 20,000 tickets sold per hour for the first time. This boost is expected to spill over into the Hindi belt as well just as the film releases. At present, Coolie is leading the advance booking race, having already hit an opening-day worldwide gross of ₹75 crore, of which ₹30 crore of which comes from India and this data was till Wednesday afternoon. According to Sacnilk, the film has made Rs 16 crore so far on Day 1 as the gross number and this is the figure from advance sales excluding the block bookings. However, with the block bookings, the advance day 1 number is Rs 28 crore as of now. However, according to Box Office India, Trade analysts caution, that these numbers don't yet point to an 'huge blockbuster type of weekend', the kind the industry hopes for with such big-budget spectacles. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like New Container Houses Serbia (Prices May Surprise You) Container House | Search Ads Search Now Undo 'War 2' may look underwhelming when compared to some past juggernauts, but the ratio of advance sales to first-day collections has changed in recent years, making direct parallels tricky. Some previous 'big ones,' as the trade hints, even had 'advances which were tampered putting it in a nice way.' By contrast, War 2's advance numbers are twice that of recent big titles like 'Raid 2' and 'Housefull 5'. Regional performance of the film will also be a mixed bag. 'War 2' is expected to underperform in Maharashtra, Gujarat, East Punjab, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh, just as Pathaan, Jawan, and Animal did, but it will need to make up for this shortfall in other territories, as those films managed to do. The Telugu-dubbed version could perform well thanks to JR NTR's presence, who is a massive star in the Nizam/Andhra belt. One already senses that as the fil has suddenly picked momentum, just as the Telugu markets have opened. Still, 'Coolie' will be a formidable rival, even outside its home Tamil market. Eventually, the content of both these movies and word of mouth will eventually decide the fate of both these movies while the weekend performance will be crucial for deciding among these.
