[UPDATED] Six-year-old boy reported missing in Johor found buried in Negri Sembilan
Negri Sembilan police chief Deputy Commissioner Datuk Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof said the body of the boy was found at 4.30pm following the arrest of a 36-year-old man.
"Preliminary investigations showed that the victim was murdered and buried in the Rompin area.
"The suspect led police to the location after being taken into custody," he said in a statement today.
The case is now being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment for up to 40 years, and whipping.
The New Straits Times has learnt that the man in police custody is related to the boy.
However, police have remained tight-lipped about the ongoing investigation.
The suspect is believed to have known the victim, but police have yet to confirm the exact motive behind the killing.
Police are expected to seek an extension of the suspect's remand as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the boy's death.
The discovery has shocked communities in both Johor and Negri Sembilan, with police urging anyone with further information to contact Inspector E. Komaty at 010-3812804 or the Iskandar Puteri district police control centre.
On July 26, police confirmed that they had received a report of a missing boy in the Taman Bukit Indah area.
Iskandar Puteri district police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Kumarasan was quoted as saying that the missing person report for the boy, identified as Tishant Munisamy, had been lodged by his father.
