Ex-NBA Player Selects Stephen Curry Ahead Of Magic Johnson, Claims "Steph Saved Everybody"
Stephen Curry and Magic Johnson are widely regarded as two of the greatest point guards to have ever played in the NBA. While most rankings place Johnson's legacy and contributions to the game above Curry's, former NBA player Jeff Teague offered a different perspective.
In a recent episode of the "Club 520 Podcast", Teague explained why he would rank Curry ahead of Johnson. He said:
"I know Magic saved the league. I know he saved the league, him and Larry Bird saved the NBA, I get it. So there's no disrespect...Magic made it cool to be a big point guard. But Steph saved everybody."
While addressing Bleacher Report's NBA Top 100 list, Teague suggested a switch between Magic and Curry, claiming that the latter was the greatest point guard ever.
"What he did at 6'3", bro," he continued. "The thing about Magic Johnson was, he was the better player anyway because he's 6'9". He could've played center."
While the panel continued to debate what a 1v1 matchup between Johnson and Curry would look like, Teague added, "Have you ever seen Magic Johnson move? He had no chance in hell guarding Steph Curry?"
Teague presents an interesting take, though it may not fully capture either player's greatness.
As Johnson was with the Los Angeles Lakers, Curry has been with the Golden State Warriors. Both players, with their respective teams, have redefined the sport in their way.
Johnson's flamboyant and versatile playmaking at his size challenged the traditional perceptions of the point guard position. With his ability to find his teammates in transition, the Lakers legend ushered in the era of "showtime" basketball, reinvigorating the team, as well as the league.
Meanwhile, Curry has fundamentally reshaped how the modern game is played. With his transcendent three-point shooting ability, the Warriors guard transformed the outlook towards perimeter shooting. Today, the three-point shot is a must-have in virtually every player's arsenal, regardless of position.
Comparing the two players in a 1v1 setup is quite redundant. Curry's quickness and shooting ability would be a horrible match for Johnson. Similarly, the physical difference owed to Johnson's size and strength would be a challenge for the Warriors' guard to overcome.
Such comparisons fall short, as they ignore the best aspects of each player's style of play, exemplifying that when it comes to comparing greatness, the 1v1 outlook is quite limited.
Bleacher Report ranked Magic Johnson at No. 4, while Stephen Curry barely made it into the top 10. While this has sparked some debate, especially with Kobe Bryant being ranked No. 11, the aspect of subjective taste is bound to see the rise of differential opinions.
Johnson ended his career with five NBA titles to his name, while Curry has secured four thus far. Given how successful both have been in their careers, including their impact on the game itself, it is safe to say that they certainly are among the greatest to have ever done it.This story was originally reported by Fadeaway World on Jul 20, 2025, where it first appeared.

Rafael Devers makes 1B debut for Giants after declining to play position for Red Sox
After declining to do so for the Boston Red Sox, Rafael Devers has put on his glove to play first base for the San Francisco Giants. The Giants announced Tuesday that Devers would start at first base Tuesday night against the Atlanta Braves. The game marks the first time in his career that Devers has played the position. And it's the first time this season that he's played in the field at any position after a contentious dispute with the Red Sox over where he would play. A three-time All-Star slugger, Devers played eight-plus seasons with the Red Sox, primarily as their third baseman. His relationship with the Red Sox deteriorated this season over a conflict about where he would — or ultimately wouldn't — play in the field for Boston. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] Dispute over position landed Devers in SF Boston signed two-time Gold Glove third baseman Alex Bregman in the offseason, a move that ultimately put the Red Sox in a precarious position. Bregman was the no-brainer choice to play third base for Boston instead of Devers, who is statistically one of the worst third basemen in baseball. Devers was also the most veteran Red Sox presence in Boston's clubhouse and the only remaining player on the roster from Boston's 2018 World Series championship team. And he didn't want to give up his position. Devers said in spring training that he was not open to moving to designated hitter to make way for Bregman on the field. But Bregman started the season at third base, and Devers moved to designated hitter, against his wishes. Then the Red Sox lost first baseman Triston Casas to injury for the rest of the season. Devers told reporters that the Red Sox asked him to take over at first base, and he refused, with the following explanation: 'They came to me and talked to me about it,' Devers told reporters on May 8 of the request to play first. 'I know I'm a ballplayer, but at the same time, they can't expect me to play every single position out there. "In spring training, they talked to me and basically told me to put away my glove. I wasn't going to play another position other than DH. Right now, I don't think it would be an appropriate decision by them to ask me to play another position.' Devers remained at designated hitter and played all 73 of his games for Boston this season at the position. The dispute ultimately compelled the Red Sox to trade Devers to the Giants in June. Devers has since played designated hitter for the Giants. But San Francisco made the move on Monday to try him out in the field. Wilmer Flores and Dominic Smith had previously split time at first base for the Giants this season. On Monday, Smith was not in the lineup, and Flores was batting sixth, taking Devers' usual place as San Francisco's designated hitter.

Indiana Fever Coach Stephanie White Provides Caitlin Clark Injury Update
Indiana Fever Coach Stephanie White Provides Caitlin Clark Injury Update originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Caitlin Clark's injury-riddled season forges on. The Indiana Fever superstar has missed a total of 10 games so far this season while battling a groin injury. The original injury occurred early on this WNBA season, however, it reappeared during the final moments of Tuesday night's 85-77 victory over the Connecticut Sun, inside TD Garden in Boston. Clark was seen in visible pain, nearing tears, as she held her groin area and headed for the bench. She spent the remainder of the game with a towel over her head, fighting back tears, as the speculation as to the level of the injury began to swirl around the basketball world. While this injury forced Clark to miss the entirety of All-Star weekend (on the court), the question remains when Clark will return to the court to suit up for the Fever in the second half of the regular season. On Sunday, Fever head coach, Stephanie White, provided an injury update on Clark's groin. White spoke to reporters on Sunday regarding Clark's groin injury, and Fever beat reporter, Scott Agness, posted White's comments to his official X account. "I think she's progressing. I think we're continuing to address everything that needs to be addressed. She's going to see some doctors, and get some more tests run early in the week. I don't expect her to be available on Tuesday, so we're just going to continue to take it one day at a time, and let her get her evaluations early this week. And once we've done that, hopefully we'll have more of a clear line of what it looks like," White said. While it appears Clark will remain sidelined for Tuesday's matchup with the New York Liberty, it sounds like the Fever are doing everything in their power to get Clark healthy and back on the court. The Fever enter the second half of the season with a record of 12-11, sitting in sixth place in the standings.
