Chelsea's academy the leading producer of Premier League players last season
The Blues reclaimed top spot in the PA news agency's annual study from Manchester United, while Liverpool gave the largest share of their own first-team minutes to homegrown players.
Twenty Chelsea academy graduates appeared in the top flight over the season, playing a total of 28,524 minutes.
That was two players and over 5,000 minutes more than any other academy. Manchester City were second on both counts, with 18 players playing a combined 23,462 minutes, dropping United to third.
Chelsea captain Reece James and fellow defenders Levi Colwill and Trevoh Chalobah contributed heavily to their side's Champions League qualification, all earning places in the latest England squad in the process, but their academy also produced first-team regulars for other Premier League clubs.
Newcastle full-backs Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall, Nottingham Forest duo Ola Aina and Callum Hudson-Odoi, Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke and Aston Villa's Ian Maatsen all topped 1,000 minutes. At the other end of the scale, fellow Cobham graduate Michael Golding played 45 seconds for Leicester as a substitute against Southampton – the lowest playing time for any player to feature in the Premier League this season.
United fell behind their Manchester rivals as well after selling Scott McTominay to Napoli while Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho frequently found themselves out of favour.
Fourth-ranked Arsenal, helped by the emergence of Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly, nearly doubled their total from 11,869 minutes to 21,894.
Liverpool ranked seventh with the rest of the top 10 made up of clubs from outside the Premier League – Ajax and Barcelona in fifth and sixth, with Championship sides Leeds and Hull sandwiching ninth-placed Anderlecht.
Brighton, Tottenham, Leicester, Everton and Crystal Palace also ranked in the top 20, with Nottingham Forest one place outside. Brentford were the lowest-ranked Premier League club, 274th of the 275 academies represented – ahead of only Rochdale.
They and Wolves were among 185 academies to produce just a single player apiece.
Liverpool's title win was heavily driven by their own academy, with homegrown players accounting for 16.7 per cent of their playing time.
Trent Alexander-Arnold led the way with 2,575 minutes, with Curtis Jones and Caoimhin Kelleher also over 1,000 and Conor Bradley and Jarell Quansah playing significant parts.
There were cameos too for Viteszlav Jaros and Jayden Danns but Liverpool's seven homegrown players were topped by Manchester United's eight. Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo, Rashford, Jonny Evans, Toby Collyer, Chido Obi, Tyler Fredricson and McTominay combined to play 6,292 minutes for their formative club, 15.2 per cent of United's playing time.
Colwill, Chalobah and James led Chelsea's third-placed tally of 6,150 minutes, or 14.7 per cent.
Six clubs gave over 10 per cent of playing time to homegrown players, with Crystal Palace only just below that mark. That included five of the traditional 'big six', with Tottenham the only exception.
Chelsea and Manchester City used six homegrown players each. Southampton had five – as did Spurs, though Mikey Moore, Brandon Austin, Dane Scarlett, Will Lankshear and Alfie Dorrington accrued just 602 minutes between them.
Brentford's sole representative league-wide was at least their first homegrown player in the history of the PA academy study, Ryan Trevitt playing eight minutes against Spurs in September.
That left Wolves as the only team not to field a homegrown player, though they had Luke Cundle, Wesley Okoduwa and Tom Edozie in matchday squads as unused substitutes.

The Carabao Cup provided solace until a 4-0 loss at Liverpool in the last-four, which meant it was Europa League or bust for Postecoglou. A last-16 tie with AZ Alkmaar was navigated and, while Postecoglou aimed a cupped ear celebration at his own fans away to Chelsea in April, he managed to get a sinking ship back on track to knock out Eintracht Frankfurt before Bodo/Glimt were thrashed in the semi-finals after supporters' responded positively to the Australian's call-to-arms. It was then all eyes on San Mames, where Postecoglou's bold second season declaration came to fruition. Brennan Johnson's first-half goal proved the difference as Spurs clinched a narrative-busting 1-0 win but euphoric celebrations in Spain, at an open-top bus parade and during a carnival final-day atmosphere were played out against a backdrop of uncertainty over the future of Postecoglou. But despite his millionaire lifestyle, Fisayo has yet to pay a penny towards his two-year-old daughter Anara's upbringing after telling the Child Maintenance Service he's skint, it is claimed. Anara's struggling mum Nadia Messaoud, 41, who dated Fisayo for a year before they split in 2022, said she was forced to take action after being ignored. She took civil action against Chelsea defender Tosin for funding his brother while allegedly knowing of his sibling's obligations. Advertisement Legal documents relating to the civil action, seen by The Sun, state: 'The defendant (Tosin) has been knowingly providing his older brother, Fisayo Adarabioyo, with an income that is not being declared to HMRC or the child maintenance service. 'This is with the intention to obstruct my daughter's legal right to obtain child maintenance. 'My child has for the last three years been awarded the nil level of CMS.' Nadia also alleged that as well as thousands of pounds a month in cash income, Tosin also provides his brother with a credit card to spend on. Advertisement According to Land Registry documents, Tosin, 27, thought to be on £120,000 a week at Chelsea, owns the Cheshire mansion in which Fisayo lives. The Department of Work and Pensions has awarded unemployed Fisayo a "nil rate" on child support for the past three years because he claims he does not earn enough to pay. Nadia staged a protest outside Chelsea's Stamford Bridge stadium last month to raise awareness around her cause. She wore a vest top and held a sign both of which said: 'TOSIN #4 Women Matter, Children Matter, D.A (Domestic Abuse) survivors matter.' Advertisement She is backed by domestic abuse charity Women's Aid. Fisayo was convicted of harassment without violence in 2022 after turning up at Nadia's terraced home in Cheshire, banging on her door and leaving her terrified. He also bombarded her with texts, saying he hoped she miscarried the baby and threatened to kill her. After allegedly failing to respond to Nadia's legal claim, his brother Tosin has been ordered by the court to pay her £11,000. Advertisement However, Tosin's legal team told The Sun the order was a "default judgement" made in error "on the part of the court". Nadia said: "I've not received a penny from Fisayo to help with our daughter, while he's living a footballer's lifestyle thanks to his Chelsea playing brother. "I've been rebuffed at every opportunity which is why I decided to take legal action against both of them. "All I ever wanted was a reasonable level of financial support but Fisayo has claimed poverty. Now I know the truth. Advertisement "As a Premier League player Tosin is supposed to be a role model, but his actions have essentially blocked my daughter from receiving the financial support she's entitled to by law." Tosin's lawyers' statement added: "The Order arises from a default judgement which has been entered by the Court in a claim issued by Nadia Messaoud against our client ('the Claim'). Unfortunately, it would appear that our client's strike out application has not been properly processed by the Court and it has therefore allowed automatic default judgement to be entered in favour of Ms Messaoud. "This is a very serious administrative failing on the Court's part and one which we are addressing with the Court on our client's behalf. Advertisement Inappropriately, she made an application for judgement in default, despite being served with that application. "Your summary is not a fair and accurate report of anything that has taken place in the Court proceedings." They added that as well as "chasing" the court, they have also made an application on their client's behalf "to have the default judgement order set aside". "In summary therefore, the Order which you have seen is subject to an active challenge, and should never have been issued by the Court in the first place."
