Driven: 2026 Volvo XC60 Keeps On Keepin' On
Every model update must start with a new grille, and the 2026 XC60 gets exactly that, with a texture borrowed from the brand's EVs. On the latest Black Edition, the grille is finished in gloss black, as are the Volvo badge and the 21-inch wheels. Darkened taillights are new for all XC60s. The Black Edition also offers a choice of dark-gray leather options, while other models offer two new vegan materials: Nordico faux leather and Herringbone Weave cloth. The car we drove had the quilted Nordico upholstery in the Driftwood (beige) colorway. Interior materials are well chosen, and nothing looks or feels cheap. The overall vibe is modern without being as overly techy as Volvo's latest EV offerings.

Nothing dates a car faster than its infotainment system, and the XC60's 9.0-inch display was starting to give off yesteryear vibes. So, Volvo has installed a new 11.2-inch screen. The larger screen doesn't quite fit into the same spot in the dash, so it's mounted as a freestanding unit, a solution that works fine. Moreover, the layout requires less swiping and tapping, with a home screen that shows a large navigation map but also carves out space for audio and phone controls. Below that sits a band of additional controls, including a button to call up the surround-view camera. Climate-control functions are found along the bottom. We're happy to see that unlike some newer Volvos, the XC60 retains its volume knob and physical buttons for audio. The Google-based system includes Google Assistant, and Google Maps provides the navigation.

The new screen sprouts from a dash that is largely the same. However, there are blingy new speaker grilles on the forward part of the door panels, and they are visually integrated with the metal trim that surrounds the curved wood dash inserts, imparting an upscale appearance. The instrumentation screen continues as before, offering a choice of two display layouts: with or without a map between the virtual gauges. The arrangement of the center console is revised and now includes a wireless charging pad, although we found it exceedingly slow (even after slipping our phone out of its case). Also, the charger must be enabled via the touchscreen.
Mechanically, the XC60 continues with no changes. The base setup is a 247-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder aided by a 48-volt hybrid system. It sends 266 pound-feet of torque to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. The step-up powertrain is a 455-hp plug-in hybrid, again with an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive; that's the version we drove.

In addition to its heaping helping of extra horsepower, the PHEV can operate purely as an EV for an EPA-estimated 35 miles (30 miles at highway speeds in our experience). Drivers can let the system do its thing in the default Hybrid mode or can choose Pure mode for EV operation. Alternately, they can opt to conserve battery power for later. When you're not feather-footing it, the XC60 T8 is plenty quick, and it's very responsive whether merging onto the highway or passing on two-lane roads. The last time we had an XC60 with this powertrain at our test track, it laid down a 60-mph time of 4.2 seconds.
This is no Porsche Macan, however. Even riding on an air-spring chassis with adaptive dampers, the XC60 T8 isn't as buttoned-down as the sportiest SUVs from the German brands. Body control is more relaxed, and the steering is muted, even if it's decently weighted. Note, however, that there is a more hardcore Polestar Engineered model, which uses the same powertrain but has revised chassis tuning.

An electric Volvo compact SUV, the EX60, is due out soon. But for now, the XC60 is Volvo's solo player in this compact-SUV space. That's not so bad. The XC60's T8 powertrain has plenty of punch, as well as a modicum of EV capability, and its interior is more approachable than the EX90 EV's. Volvo's XC60 is well positioned to grow its sales lead over better-known Volvos, even if this Mr. Popularity never achieves the earlier models' iconic status.

Stellantis to absorb $1.7 billion in tariff costs in back half of the year
Big Three automaker Stellantis (STLA) updated its first half financials after releasing preliminary figures last week, noting that President Trump's tariffs cost 1.5 billion euros ($1.73 billion) in 2025. Stellantis did however re-instate financial guidance for the year. Stellantis — which counts brands like Ram, Jeep, Fiat, and Alfa Romeo in its product portfolio — said it revenues in the first half of 2025 to come in at 74.3 billion euros ($86.13 billion), down 13% year over resulting in a net loss of 2.3 billion euros ($2.67 billion). Last year in the same period Stellantis reported 5.6 billion euros ($6.48 billion) in net profit. Stellantis said adjusted operating income (AOI) came in at 500 million euros ($579.6 million), with cash flows from operating activities slipping to a loss of 2.3 billion euros ($2.67 billion). With that said, Stellantis now projects new guidance for the second half of the year expects to see increased net revenues, low-single digit AOI profitability, and improved industrial free cash flow results. Stellantis said this assumes current tariff and trade rules in place as of July 29, 2025. Stellantis stock was down 4% in the pre-market. "2025 is turning out to be a tough year, but also one of gradual improvement. Signs of progress are evident when comparing H1 2025 to H2 2024, in the form of improved volumes, Net revenues, and AOI, despite intensifying external headwinds," new CEO Antonio Filosa said in a statement. Stellantis said last week that it absorbed approximately 300 million euros ($347.77 million) in tariff-related costs as well as loss of planned production in the first half of the year. Only two months ago, Stellantis selected Filosa, a 25-year veteran of the company and current Americas COO, as its new chief executive. His tenure began on June 23, with interim CEO John Elkann remaining as executive chair. Filosa has his hands full repairing the Stellantis business. For the second quarter, Stellantis said global deliveries fell to 1.447 million units from 1.537 million a year ago, down 6%. Sales tumbled in the US 25%, while the greater European region saw sales drop 6%. Stellantis has been trying to pare bloated inventories in the US with pricing incentives and production cuts, and those measures have helped. But the big question remains, at least in the US, of the effect of auto sector tariffs targeting Canada and Mexico production. Stellantis makes several vehicles in Canada and Mexico, where 25% sector tariffs apply to all imports, in addition to auto parts tariffs. Last quarter, Stellantis idled production at plants in Canada and Mexico as a result of tariffs. Read more: 5 ways to tariff-proof your finances A just-announced US-EU tariff deal could help Stellantis, but issues including unpopular vehicles and existing tariffs for Canadian and Mexican imports will still be a problem. How Everrati Rebuilds Classic Cars As High-End Electric Vehicles
Everatti re-engineers and rebuilds models such as Porsche 911 into an electric vehicle. U.K.-based Everrati is turning classic internal combustion cars into electric vehicles. Founder and CEO Justin Lunny has a background in tech, including software. But he also has an interest in autos. 'I've been passionate about anything with four wheels,' Lunny said in an interview. He said he got the idea for Everrati in 2018, when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle drove an especially built electric Jaguar following their royal wedding. 'We are a business that takes iconic vehicles and remanufactures them,' Lunny said. 'We're selling the dream.' Depending on model, an Everrati can cost anywhere from about $250,000 to more than $500,000. Everrati offers electric versions of the Land Rover Series IAA, Porsche 911 (964),Mercedes-Benz W11 SL 'Pagoda,' and the GT40, a supercar Ford Motor Co. originally developed to beat Ferrari at the 24 Hours of LeMans in the 1960s. The company begins with a 'donor car,' an original version. Most Everrati customers don't own an original. So, Everrati will acquire one for an additional fee. The donor car 'is stripped back to the chassis,' Lunny said. The donor car also is treated to ensure there's no rust. The donor car 'is rebuilt back up.' Lunny said Everrati engages in thousands of hours of engineering. 'We're really re-engineering that vehicle.' Brakes and suspension systems are upgraded. New audio systems are installed. The cars are equipped with Everrati's proprietary software. Each Everrati takes about a year to build. 'To the outside eye, it looks like a beautifully restored vehicle,' the CEO said. Everrati was founded in 2019, with the first deliveries a few years later. The company doesn't disclose precise sales statistics but Lunny said it has sold between 20 and 30 EVs to date. 'We almost tripled our sales this year from last.' The company has multiple manufacturing centers, including one in the U.S., which handles output of the Porsche cars. 'Things like tariffs are less problematic,' The CEO said. The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has levied tariffs on an array of products, including vehicles and automotive parts. Tariffs are paid by importers. Everrati's board advisors include Andy Palmer, a former CEO of Aston Martin. The company's models have an obviously high price point. Still, Lunny said there is a market. Everrati is working on additional vehicle programs. 'We're busier than we've ever been,' the CEO said. 'It is a lifestyle proposition.'
