Is Your Liver In Trouble? Ways To Spot Damage At Home

News1807-05-2025

While most assume that liver need lab tests, India's top liver expert, Dr Sarin, says early signs like sudden weight gain and loss of appetite can be spotted at home
Liver-related problems are on the rise, and not just among older adults. More and more people in their 20s and 30s are developing conditions like fatty liver and cirrhosis, often without realising it. While most assume that liver issues can only be detected through lab tests, India's top liver expert, Dr Shiv Kumar Sarin, says otherwise. According to him, there are early warning signs that can be spotted at home, if you know what to look for.
Dr Sarin, Director of the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS), New Delhi, mentioned in an interview with a YouTube channel that the liver is a unique organ which rarely gets damaged on its own. Unlike other organs, the liver has a natural ability to repair itself. He added that while specific symptoms of liver damage are uncommon, signs such as sudden weight gain, loss of appetite, acidity, frequent burping, and excessive snoring may indicate liver issues.
The doctor explained that when patients with jaundice visit him, he often asks about their appetite. If a person feels hungry despite having jaundice, it indicates that the liver is still functioning properly. Sometimes liver problems begin due to infections. Pain on the right side of the chest could signal gallbladder stones. If liver damage is suspected, everyone should undergo annual health checks to get an accurate picture.
Dr Sarin recommends getting a full body check-up once a year—ideally on your birthday or the day before—as a step towards maintaining good health. Essential tests include blood tests, lipid profile, blood sugar tests, liver ultrasound, SGPT, and ALT tests. These tests are crucial for assessing liver health. If they reveal fat deposits in the liver, it is a sign that the liver is unhealthy and needs attention.
To maintain liver health, it is important to follow a balanced diet, lead a healthy lifestyle, avoid alcohol and smoking, and engage in regular physical activity.

Avantika Malik On Divorce With Imran Khan: ‘Would Never Poison My Daughter Against Him'

Last Updated: Avantika Malik says she would never come between Imran Khan and their daughter, calling attempts to hurt their bond "damaging to the child." Imran Khan's ex-wife Avantika Malik has opened up about their separation and its impact on their daughter Imara, stating that she would never let personal emotions come in the way of their child's bond with her father. In a candid conversation on Nayandeep Rakshit's YouTube channel, Avantika reflected on the emotional challenges of their divorce and the decisions she made for the sake of their daughter. Imran and Avantika parted ways after nearly a decade of marriage. When they broke the news of their separation to their daughter, who was just five at the time, it sparked confusion and fear in the child. 'When we told Imara for the first time that I and Imran were not going to be married anymore, the first question that popped into her head was whether she was going to lose her parents," Avantika recalled. She added that having examples within her family helped Imara understand that both her parents would remain constants in her life. Acknowledging that it's often tough for children to accept new relationships in their parents' lives, Avantika admitted it took time for Imara to adjust. 'Every child has a certain preconceived notion of what a family is supposed to look like," she said. Over time, however, Imara adapted. Avantika shared light-heartedly, 'We joke about it now, and I will ask her whether I should get a new boyfriend or not? She tells me there is no need and it is perfect, just the two of us." Avantika was also asked whether her own relationship with Imran ever interfered with co-parenting. She responded firmly, 'I didn't have a very good relationship with my father in my early years, and I was very clear from the beginning that I did not want that for my child." She added, 'If you decide to poison your child… it's because you are bitter and you have certain resentments. I wanted her to have a very beautiful relationship with him, and me trying to damage that is ultimately going to hurt her." First Published:

Now, the fanbase, you want to be on their side - we all know that. They are very passionate. Their fans know their sports.' But inside that locker room? First of all, inside that locker room. The propice locker room was underwhelming. I was like - This is what we got here! The food was great. (Image via Getty) But the indoor? Was not even 100 yards. It was like 60 or 70 yards in a bubble, and we were having to practice with people from Novacare who were actually rehabbing and who were unaffiliated with the organization. Then the coach is like - No m****rf****r, this is how it's supposed to be, I was right last week. They were just going back and forth, and I'm on a line of scrimmage in a walk-through like - What is going on? And Doug (Pederson) is just holding his little postcard with his notes with his little visor on and, just like - Hey guys, stop it. Just calm down. These guys keep going at it, and eventually, one guy throws a ball at the other guy, and they just run at each other and start fighting. I am just sitting on the line of scrimmage like - Is this really happening? We're trying to get to the playoffs right now. 'This is a coach and a player?' curious Taylor Lewan asked. 'This is a coach and a player, bro,' said Tate. By the way, their doctors mishandled so many injuries. Like so many! I'm talking about my guy. They had to go to court for it.' 'Talk about malpractice?' curious Taylor Lewan asked again. The former wide receiver for the Detroit Lions replied, 'Yes, yes. It's noted. I mean, Chris Maragos, they mishandled him, and he just settled with them for like bajillion dollars.'
