A Special Court for POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act cases in Tiruvallur has convicted and sentenced a 28-year-old man to nine-year-imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor girl six years ago in Ennore.
According to the police, the accused was Dilli Babu who was 22-year-old in 2019 and a resident of Tsunami quarters, Ernavur. On January 6, 2019, he sexually assaulted a minor girl from Ennore. He was booked under the provisions of POCSO.
The court imposed a fine of ₹15,000 and ordered the authorities to pay a compensation of ₹2 lakh to the victim.

Stating that the suicides related to harassment from the microfinance companies in Karnataka were showing a declining trend after the legislation came into effect, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday announced that the State government is considering providing ₹5 lakh compensation to the families of those who commit suicide due to harassment. The Chief Minister's statement in the Legislative Council came during the reply to a question from the Janata Dal (Secular) member C.N. Manje Gowda. He said, 'We aim to bring the suicides to zero. We are currently offering a compensation of ₹5 lakh to the families of farmers who commit suicide. On similar lines, we will try to provide compensation to the families of those who commit suicide due to harassment from micro finance companies.' Number of cases Providing statistics on the micro finance related cases and suicides, Mr. Siddarmaiah said that six harassment cases were reported in 2023 when eight persons committed suicide, while 27 cases were reported in 2024 when six persons committed suicide. In 2025, he said that 105 cases were reported and 24 persons had committed suicide. A 35-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl in Delhi's Narela Industrial Area, the police said on Thursday. The girl was provided medical aid, and her statement is being recorded in the presence of counsellors, the police said.(HT file photo) The incident occurred late on Wednesday night when the accused, a factory worker, took the girl to an abandoned flat, they said. "Upon reaching the location, it was found that the victim, a resident of Narela, had been sexually assaulted by the accused, who is her neighbour. He was immediately taken into custody," a senior police officer said. The girl was provided medical aid, and her statement is being recorded in the presence of counsellors, the police said. A case was registered under Sections 65(1) (punishment for rape in certain cases) and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of the BNS and provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Further investigation is underway.

The Crime Investigation Department (CID) has appealed to the banks to extend their cooperation to the department by promptly providing KYC (Know Your Customer) documents, Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) and CCTV footages, which would help investigate cases related to financial frauds and economic offences. The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the CID said the KYC documents were vital for identifying and verifying the investors and suspects involved in cases, and that many requests for such documents were pending with banks and financial institutions. Several STRs remained pending for years due to a lack of cooperation from bank officers. Similar was the case of CCTV footage, which are necessary to identify and trace the individuals involved in fraudulent activities, and help support the investigation with scientific evidence. At a meeting held with the officers of various banks and institutions at the CID Headquarters near here on Thursday, CID Director General of Police (DGP) Ravi Shankar Ayyanar said 136 cases related to offences covered under the Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act, 1988 remained pending due to lack of proper documents. The objective of the meeting was to address the alarming number of pending complaints and unsolved cases related to bank frauds, which were stalled due to non-submission of crucial documents required for registration of FIRs, Mr. Ayyanar said. Cybercrime reporting portal Stating that banks play a vital role in supporting law enforcement agencies in combating financial frauds and economic offences, the DGP urged the bank officials to extend their cooperation by submitting necessary documents to register and probe the cases efficiently. EOW officers explained the importance of the cybercrime helpline no. 1930 and the cybercrime reporting portal The portal provides citizens a quick and reliable platform to report online financial frauds, enabling timely action to block fraudulent transactions.
