Fritz set up a fourth-round match in the hard-court event with 19th-seeded Jiri Lehecka of Czechia. Lehecka beat 15th-seeded Arthur Fils of France 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
The 27-year-old Fritz is No. 4 in the world. He has 10 career ATP Tour titles, winning this year on grass at Eastbourne and Stuttgart.
In the afternoon, sixth-seeded Andrey Rublev of Russia beat Lorenzo Sonego of Italy 5-7, 6-4, 6-3. Rublev will face Alejandro Davidovich Fokina of Spain, a 6-2, 6-4 winner over Czech Jakub Mensik.
'In the second and third sets, I was able to play more aggressive, fewer mistakes,' Rublev said. 'Let's see what's happening next, I'm super excited and motivated.'
Seventh-seeded Frances Tiafoe of the United States edged Aleksandar Vukic of Australia 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 to set up a match with Washington winner Alex de Minaur of Australia. De Minaur advanced when countryman Christopher O'Connell withdrew.
Top-ranked Jannik Sinner — the 2023 winner — and No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz skipped the hard-court event that ends Thursday. No. 5 Jack Draper and No. 6 Novak Djokovic also are absent.

Disney's ESPN to acquire NFL media assets in major deal
By Dawn Chmielewski and Lisa Richwine LOS ANGELES (Reuters) -Walt Disney's ESPN has reached a landmark deal with the National Football League to acquire NFL Network and other media assets from the league in exchange for the NFL taking a 10% equity stake in the sports network, the parties said on Tuesday. The deal, which ESPN said would bolster the offerings on its upcoming ESPN streaming service, is subject to regulatory approval. Financial terms were not disclosed. ESPN also will acquire NFL Fantasy, a digital offering, and will gain the rights to distribute the NFL RedZone television channel to its cable and satellite television customers. "Today's announcement paves the way for the world's leading sports media brand and America's most popular sport to deliver an even more compelling experience for NFL fans, in a way that only ESPN and Disney can," Disney CEO Robert Iger said in a statement. The Athletic, which first reported last week that a deal was imminent, said it could potentially be worth billions of dollars, according to sources. ESPN declined to comment on the reported figure. The ESPN streaming service, which Iger has said could launch as early as this month, will cost $29.99 per month. It will provide access to ESPN's portfolio of professional and college sports, including the NFL, the NBA and WNBA, MLB and the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship, as well as studio shows such as "SportsCenter" and "Pardon the Interruption." "By combining these NFL media assets with ESPN's reach and innovation, we're creating a premier destination for football fans," ESPN Chairman Jimmy Pitaro said in a statement. The league launched the NFL Network in 2003, as it sought to tap into the revenue generated by cable and satellite subscriptions. While it gained traction, introducing Thursday Night Football, it never rose to become a rival to ESPN. Under the new agreement, ESPN would own and operate the TV and streaming rights to the NFL Network, which will continue to carry seven games a year. "The network's sale to ESPN will build on this remarkable legacy, providing more NFL football for more fans in new and innovative ways," said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. RedZone is a service that allows fans to watch scoring opportunities during Sunday afternoon NFL games. The league will continue to own, operate, and produce NFL RedZone and retain rights to distribute it digitally. Tauson ousts Keys and advances to WTA Canadian Open semis
Danish 16th seed Clara Tauson stunned reigning Australian Open champion Madison Keys 6-1, 6-4 on Tuesday and advanced to the semi-finals of the WTA Canadian Open. Tauson dominated the opening set and took full advantage of Keys giving up a break on a double fault to open the second. The Dane won 12 of 19 points on her second serves and kept Keys at bay most of the night. Tauson will play Wednesday for a berth in the final against the winner of a later match between four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka of Japan and Ukraine's 10th-seeded Elina Svitolina. Keys joined a scrap heap of Montreal seeds, with the top five seeds and seven of the top 10 seeds ousted before the quarter-finals. Tauson, 22, seeks her fourth career WTA title after the 2021 Lyon and Luxenbourg Opens and this year's Auckland Open, where Osaka retired after winning the first set of the final. That was Tauson's only meeting with Osaka while the Dane is 2-0 against Svitolina, winning in three sets on clay in Portugal in 2023 and in a third-set tiebreaker at Dubai six months ago.
