Footage could show latest evidence of famous Evansville ghost
The library posted security footage of the incident to its Facebook page Friday morning.
Timestamped April 17 around 5:45 p.m., the video shows a lower-level entrance near the elevator. No people are in frame, and the glass on the door provides a clear view of the outside, proving no one is around. The door suddenly cracks open. It shuts just as quickly.
The post notes that it happened about 15 minutes after staff left for the day and locked – and alarmed – all the doors. The library claims it has footage of employees double-checking the entrances before they left.
'Important note: The alarm system will not arm unless all doors are properly latched,' the post reads.
Later that night, as director George Carter returned to Willard to work after-hours, he received a call from the alarm company that an open door had 'triggered the system.'
'The director informed them he was already on-site and would investigate,' the post reads. 'When he checked the door in question, it was still securely locked. Upon reviewing the security footage, this is what he discovered.'
Although Willard's post doesn't mention her by name, commenters were quick to evoke the Grey Lady: the famed specter that's supposedly haunted Willard since at least the late 1930s. Unquestionably the most famous poltergeist in the city's history, she's attracted everyone from SyFy's 'Ghost Hunters' to renowned psychic Lorraine Warren, who went on to depicted by Vera Farmiga in 'The Conjuring' franchise.
The library maintains 24-hour 'ghost cams' in its children's section for anyone who wants to catch her in action. And over the years, patrons and employees alike have reported vaporous taps on the shoulder; mysterious falling books; chairs shoved away from desks while no one is around. Berry Global employees next door have even seen the library elevator climbing and falling on its own throughout the night.
A few years ago, two Willard staffers were watching surveillance footage when they spotted a woman who appeared to be wearing a costume: a long, gray dress and veil.
'They were kind of keeping an eye on her and she just dissipated into thin air,' Arrika Taylor, Willard's adult services librarian, told the Courier & Press in 2021. 'Disappeared right in front of their eyes.'
No veiled specter can be seen in the latest footage. Some commenters blame the wind. But it would have to be a stiff breeze to jostle a latched, locked door.

RESIDENT ALIEN Series Finale Recap: (S04E10) The End Is Here
Resident Alien Season 4 Episode 10, 'The End Is Here,' is a series finale that effectively ties loose narrative ends and brings this hilariously heartfelt story to a close. If you're like me, you had those tissues at the ready for when the waterworks took over. 'The End Is Here' is chock full of heart, depth and this show's signature humor. I love that Ethan essentially becomes the new Harry. Beyond that, this outing is proof positive of Harry's immense growth. Additionally, it bursts at the seams with boundless hope. So much hope. Harry reminds us of the best of humanity and that humans can do so much good. We should all cling tightly to this message. RELATED: Read our recap of the Resident Alien penultimate episode, 'Tunnel Vision' Resident Alien, 'The End Is Here' We open with Ethan (Michael Cassidy) driving down a dark road at night, talking to his mother on the phone. Ethan insists Harry must pay for ruining his life. He's in his revenge era. Suddenly, a spaceship crash-lands directly onto Ethan's truck. RIP, Dr. Ethan Stone. RIP, hot doctor. An alien hand emerges from said spaceship. Later, Harry (Alan Tudyk) asks Dan (Gary Farmer) for 100 of each pie he has on hand. After all, Harry's trek to Heather's homeworld might take a long time. He could starve on the way there. Kayla (Sarah Podemski) reveals Harry has already been replaced as the town doctor. Harry takes umbrage with this. What do you mean someone else will live in his cabin by the lake and do his job? RESIDENT ALIEN — 'The End is Here' Season 4 Episode 10 — Pictured: (l-r) Sara Tomko as Asta Twelvetrees, Alice Wetterlund as D'Arcy Bloom — (Photo by: James Dittiger/USA Network) Dreams and Amsterdam After this, Asta (Sara Tomko) tells D'arcy (Alice Wetterlund) about her weird dream. A space vessel crashed on Earth, one from Harry's planet. Judy had a wagon full of books. And Jay was angry with her. Speaking of, Jay (Kaylayla Raine) enters their home to reveal she got accepted into college. Asta gives her a present. Then, Asta shares that Drew and Manuel are letting her stay with them in Amsterdam. She hopes to move there for a while. RELATED: TV Review: Resident Alien Season 4 Jay isn't thrilled about her biological mother moving across the world. 'I guess this is what you do, you leave,' Jay says vehemently before storming out. Judy (Jenna Lamia) appears with a wagon full of encyclopedias, revealing she needs Asta's closet space to store them. It dawns on Asta that her dream is coming true. She and D'arcy visit Harry. He informs them that Asta has residual poison from the Mantid still in her system. It'll wear off eventually. So, if Asta can see the future or multiple timelines, this means an alien from Harry's homeworld is here. Harry declares he wants to prove to Patience that he's irreplaceable by saving humanity (again). After this, Harry, Asta and D'arcy drive to where the spaceship crashed. Arrest the Alien Meanwhile, Kate (Meredith Garretson) tells Ben (Levi Fiehler) that her parents are coming to visit Bella. Ben thought they wouldn't tell their parents about Bella yet. His parents, in particular, are quite judgmental. At the same time, Liv (Elizabeth Bowen) tells Mike (Corey Reynolds) that they should arrest Harry. He murdered the real Harry, right? Lock him up. RELATED: 10 Out-of-This-World Predictions for Resident Alien Season 4 Then, Harry, Asta and D'arcy meet with David Logan (Alex Barima) and his new partner (in government). David shows them the alien's glowing green ball, like the one Harry had. They found it in a field some distance from the crash. So, Harry's race is here to eradicate all humans, to finish the job Harry was supposed to start. Elsewhere, Max (Judah Prehn) and Kate take a stroll through the town square. He spots Ethan — well, the alien posing as Ethan. The alien assumed the late Ethan's form. Harry meets with Ethan in the diner, revealing that Max tipped him off. Ethan states that the town offered him Harry's old job at the clinic. RESIDENT ALIEN — 'The End is Here' Season 4 Episode 10 — Pictured: Alan Tudyk as Harry Vanderspeigle — (Photo by: James Dittiger/USA Network) Ball Sack Then, Ethan asks where Tellurium is kept on Earth. He lost his alien tech ball. Harry fires back that humans call Tellurium 'ball sack.' He giggles as Ethan incorrectly refers to Tellurium as such. Hey, it is funny. Ethan plans to destroy Earth, so Harry becomes the planet's defense attorney. He advocates for humanity. It might not seem like it at face value, but humans have the capacity to change. They're special. Side note: I like that Ethan also loves pie. Apparently, their race has a genetic predilection for it. RELATED: All Is Not Well in Patience in Resident Alien Season 4 Trailer Later, Harry heads to the Hawthorne house, where everyone waits for him. He shares that they're all in danger. Ethan will carry out his former mission. However, our crew already knows about this. Mike believes he and Liv can handle taking out an alien. Harry fires back that only he has the special abilities to do this and can match Ethan in strength. Next, he uses an example of when he overpowered humans. Harry shares that he manipulated Mike and Liv's memories. This includes planting a false memory in Mike's mind wherein he went fly fishing with his father. Mike is irate. He and Liv try to arrest Harry for murder. Asta and D'arcy defend Harry. They need him to defeat Ethan. At one point, Mike claims he doesn't want to see Harry again. Harry storms out. Changing Lives After this, Mike insists they don't need Harry's help to put the kibosh on Ethan's plan. Then, he blames Asta for knowing Harry was an alien all along. D'arcy goes to bat for Asta, who chased Harry out of the house earlier. She and Mike go at it. Ben admits he wished he had killed Harry when he first arrived in Patience because the latter tried to murder Max. Kate fights for Harry, insisting that the Greys would still have Bella if it weren't for Harry. RELATED: New TV Shows This Week (August 3-9) D'arcy adds that Asta wouldn't have a relationship with Jay if Harry hadn't landed on Earth. However, Mike asserts the contrary. Harry made his life worse. Aw. Meanwhile, Asta finds Harry in the clinic, looking for something with which to kill Mike. Baby Aspirin should do the trick. Harry admits he doesn't like knowing he made Mike mad, so he must kill him. Asta urges her extraterrestrial friend to come up with a better plan. RESIDENT ALIEN — 'The End is Here' Season 4 Episode 10 — Pictured: Corey Reynolds as Sheriff Mike Thompson — (Photo by: James Dittiger/USA Network) Next, Jay opens her gift from Asta while sitting in the diner. It's a wooden box full of letters from Asta over the years, chronicling Jay's life. How sweet. Jay arrives at the clinic and embraces Asta. All is well again. Fishing With My Father Later, Mike grabs ammo and guns to meet Harry. He pulls over by the beach. Gun raised, we see Mike wander onto said beach to find his dad, Lewis (Alvin Sanders), fly fishing. Lewis claims Harry told him to meet him here. Mike assumes Harry isn't coming. He grabs a pole and proceeds to fish with his father. See? Harry has a good heart. This moment made me tear up. RELATED: The Premise and How Star Trek Fans Created Fanfic as We Know It Meanwhile, Asta is at the cemetery, visiting Sam's grave. Kate runs into her there. Asta discloses her excitement for Amsterdam; however, she also received an email about doing humanitarian work as a nurse in New Orleans. It's a 'fork in the road' situation. She's confused. Kate wonders why they have to pick just one thing to pursue in life. Why not do it all? The world is so big and so wide. Next, D'arcy knocks on the door of the young woman from AA who's also a skier. She urges the latter not to give up skiing. 'Stop making excuses for your life,' D'arcy says, giving the woman her number in case she needs support. Aw, look at our D'arce. She's grown so much. RESIDENT ALIEN — 'The End is Here' Season 4 Episode 10 — Pictured: (l-r) Kaylayla Raine as Jay, Sara Tomko as Asta Twelvetrees — (Photo by: James Dittiger/USA Network) Revenge Elsewhere, Kate tells Ben that she wants to go back into law full-time. Everything that's happened to them is a reminder that she's alive. She wants to stop living in survival mode. Ben remarks that the incessant alien abductions took everything from him — they made him weird. However, Kate loves her little weirdo. RELATED: Read our SurrealEstate recaps After this, they spy the alien girl scout from across the street. Ben confronts her, ordering her not to interact with his family again. If she does, he'll kill her. The other girls standing behind her look gobsmacked. Ben turns on them, too, threatening to kill everyone. He's the mayor; he can do that. After the girls flee in terror, the girl scout reveals they weren't with her. Uh-oh. Kate immediately grabs boxes of cookies before they run away. Later, David Logan and his partner knock Mike unconscious and bring him to a secure location. Once he wakes up, we learn that David's partner is in charge of Western Oversight of Non-Earthly Phenomena (WONEP). They offer Mike a job. He can still be sheriff, though, but he'll get his own special weapons. Mike reveals he'll accept the position as an agent but only if Liv works with him. After hesitating, Liv agrees to work in this secret organization alongside Mike. At the same time, Harry, Asta and D'arcy get Ethan absolutely plastered at The 59. One bar patron offers his seat to Ethan. This affects him deeply. Ethan is feeling human emotions for the first time. Harry tells him that this is love and kindness. RELATED: Revival : Check Out 9 First-Look Photos From Melanie Scrofano-Led Series Harry plays 'Starships' by Nicki Minaj, providing us with a full-circle moment from the pilot. If you recall, Harry danced to this song in the first episode. Ethan goes crazy for it on the dance floor. Harry, Asta, D'arcy and Judy join him. Harry realizes he doesn't have to kill Ethan. Eventually, Ethan will become too human to want to murder anyone. Plus, our titular resident alien doesn't want to take out Ethan now that humanity grows inside him. A soul. After this, we see Ethan and Judy waltz out of the diner, arm-in-arm. Asta tells Dan, D'arcy and Kayla that she's not going to Amsterdam now. Instead, she's heading to New Orleans in three days to work as a nurse. D'arcy gets emotional. Kayla and Dan inform her that the Utes never say goodbye. They say, 'See you sometime.' See You Sometime Then, Harry and Asta are in the cabin. Harry and Bridget are all packed up. Asta reminds her friend that he helped a lot of people in Patience. Harry remarks that the important thing is that he tried to help as much as he could. Harry grabs a Sharpie to do something off-screen. RELATED: Geek Girl Authority Crush of the Week: Asta Twelvetrees Outside, the whole gang arrives to see Harry and Bridget off. Harry reveals that the government let him take Ethan's spaceship, which he brings out of the lake. Max embraces Harry, telling the latter he'll miss him. Harry urges him and Sahar (Gracelyn Awad Rinke) to be Earth's protectors now. Sure, Ethan is no longer a threat, but you never know what might transpire in the future. Harry gives Max a device to contact him just in case. Asta and Harry embrace. My heart . Harry and Bridget zip up into their ship. They reappear on the bridge, Harry in his alien form. They wave at everyone on the ground as they fly away. They stand outside The 59. D'arcy gives Asta a bracelet from their childhood. They hug it out. 'See you sometime.' Oof. I was teary-eyed for a while leading up to this, but this scene made the dam burst. Tomko and Wetterlund's performances feel so real here. As Asta drives away, we see Harry and Bridget flying toward Heather's homeworld. Harry has a picture of Heather on the console. In "Tunnel Vision," last week's action-packed episode of Resident Alien, Harry (Alan Tudyk) and Mike (Corey Reynolds) head into the mine in search of the Mantid. But unbeknownst to them, the Mantid is no longer Agent Jules Gardner (Jewel Staite). Instead, the Mantid has taken on the form of Deputy Liv Baker (Elizabeth Bowen)! We hoped she wasn't dead, but only Max (Judah Prehn) was able to see Liv for what she really was. Before he could head into the mines to warn Harry, Asta (Sara Tomko) stopped him and Sahar (Gracelyn Awad Rinke) from entering and said she'd go instead. As she found a way in, Max ignored her (as he seems to ignore all the adults in his life lately) and headed in to find Harry. Sahar, meanwhile, headed back to the town festival to find Mayor Ben (Levi Fiehler) or Kate (Meredith Garretson). Before Asta could find Harry, she came across Mantid Liv. When she did get to Harry, the Mantid had shapeshifted in Asta. Now there were two Astas, and Harry and Mike couldn't tell who the real one was. Luckily, Max found them all and pointed out Mantid Asta. Cue fight alien fight scene. It looked like the Mantid had the advantage over Alien Harry until Asta sprayed him with the Manticide, knocking her. An angered Harry then went ballistic on him, eventually killing the Mantid with a miner's ax. Of course, Kate tazed the Mantid with the alien taser for good measure, but the damage is done. Asta was infected by the Mantid. Related: Unaware of Asta's injury, Harry and Mike went in search of Liv. Harry saw a ghostly Asta point them in the direction where Liv was, knowing she was near death. They eventually found Liv with Robert (Paul Piaskowski), along with the Mantid's egg sac, which was ready to hatch. As the Mantids came out of their shell, it looked like the end for our heroes. Fortunately, Peter Bach (Terry O'Quinn) arrived just in time and torched the egg sac to nice, charred, crispy burnt ends. Father and son are finally reunited. Without a word, Harry headed to Asta's bedside to try to save her by giving her a transfusion of his alien blood to combat the Mantid infection. And, miraculously, Asta survived. While having dinner at the diner later, she and Harry realize it's time for both of them to leave Patience. Harry needs to find Heather (Edi Patterson) and his other kids, while Asta needs to find her heart's desire. The final shot of the episode is of Asta sleeping. She is awakened, and she mysteriously says, "They're here." Related: What happens in the series finale of Resident Alien?
