The Hindu17-07-2025
Union Minister of State for Rural Development, Dr. Pemmasani Chandrasekhar, on Thursday inaugurated the newly constructed Head post office building in Razole, aimed at providing enhanced services to Razole and the surrounding rural areas. Amalapuram MP Ganti Harish Madhur, was also present at the occasion.
The newly constructed HPO building has been developed at a cost of ₹2 crore. The Union Minister also virtually inaugurated the Peddapuram post office building under Kakinada Division constructed at a cost of ₹1.78 crores. Addressing a public meeting at Mangena Gangayya Kalyana Mandapam, Mr Chandrasekhar said, 'India has two PMs — one is our Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the other is the 'postman' in every village who ensures services reach the last mile.' He emphasised the rapid modernisation within India Post including real-time SMS alerts on article bookings and delivery, robust article tracking systems, and improved technological infrastructure to compete with private service providers in the market. Over the past year alone, ₹5,000 crores has been invested in modernising post offices. Mobile phones, biometric devices, and thermal printers have been distributed to 1.4 lakh postmen, transforming each into a 'Mobile ATM', he said.
He added that the India Post plays a significant role in Direct Benefit Transfers (DBT) and added that of the ₹10,000 crore released under the 'Thalliki Vandhanam' scheme, ₹1,500 crore was distributed through post offices in Andhra Pradesh. He encouraged citizens to utilise postal savings and insurance services, which start with as little as ₹100, offering secure, trustworthy financial options for all. Mr. Chandrasekhar highlighted the 'Sukanya Samriddhi' scheme describing it as a vital initiative aimed at securing the future of the girl child through long-term financial savings. Mr Harish Madhur noted that post offices are no longer limited to just delivering letters — they are multifunctional service points.

Operation Sindoor: Rajnath Singh reveals in Parliament why India paused action against terror infra in Pakistan

India paused its action – Operation Sindoor – against terror infrastructure in Pakistan because the predicted political and military objectives were achieved, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh told the Parliament on Monday. Defending Operation Sindoor, the defence minister said, 'Saying that this operation was paused under any pressure is baseless and absolutely wrong... In my political life, I have always tried not to speak lies ever...' Rajnath Singh further said that Pakistan admitted defeat and offered to cease hostilities after India launched its Operation Sindoor on May 10, under which the Indian Air Force had struck hard at multiple airfields in Pakistan. Pakistan's offer of ceasing hostilities 'was accepted with the caveat that this Operation has only been paused. If any misadventure occurs from Pakistan's side in the future, this Operation will be resumed,' the defence minister told the Parliament. Taking pride in India's defence system, Singh said that all of Pakistan's attacks were thwarted because of India's impregnable security arrangements. 'I am proud to say that our Air Defence system, Counter-Drone system, and electronic equipment completely foiled this attack by Pakistan. Pakistan could not hit any of our targets, and none of our important assets were damaged. Our security arrangements were impregnable, and every attack was thwarted,' he said. Describing the operation as a symbol of India's strength, Singh further said that it demonstrated that India will not remain silent if anyone harmed its citizens. "We once spoke language of 'Lahore bus journey', but Pakistan did not understand that; we now respond with 'Balakot strike'… India first extends hand of friendship, but it also knows how to twist the wrist if any country betrays it,' he added. Starlink can give only 20 lakh connections pan-India: MoS Telecom

New Delhi, Jul 28 (PTI) Billionaire Elon Musk-led satellite communication services provider Starlink can have only 20 lakh connections in India, Union Minister Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar said on Monday, playing down the threat to state-run BSNL and other telecom players. The Minister of State for Telecom was speaking on the sidelines of a review meeting of BSNL here. 'Starlink can have only 20 lakh customers in India and offer up to 200 Mbps speed. That won't affect telecom services," the minister said. Satcom services are expected to target rural and remote areas where BSNL is known to have a significant presence. He said that the upfront cost for satcom services will be too high, and the monthly cost may be around Rs 3,000. The minister said that the BSNL 4G rollout is complete, and it does not plan to increase tariffs as of now. 'We want market first. There are no tariff hikes planned."
