T O Act: Tanveer greets trade bodies for securing amendments
It may be noted that National Assembly of Pakistan has amended the Trade Organisations Act, 2013 as per the aspirations of the business community and removed the controversial provision. Thus, elections of all Chambers and Trade Associations will be held in September 2026, as per schedule, he said.
Tanveer said he would like to extend special recognition to FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh, Momin Malik, and Zaki Aijaz for their tireless efforts and unwavering dedication that made this achievement possible. Their exemplary leadership and perseverance have been instrumental in driving this initiative forward.

The recent United States (US) tariff decision, placing a 19% rate on Pakistani exports, is more encouraging than it first appears. In a world where India faces 25%, Bangladesh 20% and Vietnam 20%, Pakistan's relatively lower rate is a diplomatic and economic win. It shows the US still sees space for Pakistan in its supply chains - a welcome shift in a world growing more protectionist. The government deserves credit for avoiding the harshest tariff brackets, which have hit others with rates as high as 40%. But this breathing space must be used wisely. We're in a better lane - but we still need to drive faster. Markets don't wait for the prepared - they reward the proactive. Pakistan now has a limited window to act: we must push aggressively into value-added sectors and grab the market share slipping from our higher-tariffed competitors. Pakistan has the highest tax burden in the region, coupled with the most expensive electricity and gas tariffs among peer economies. The recent withdrawal of the Export Finance Scheme (EFS) - a facility that India, Bangladesh, and even Vietnam continue to provide under various names -adds further cost pressure. These structural disadvantages must be addressed urgently if we're to compete fairly. Despite this, the opportunity is real. With major players like India and Myanmar now priced out of several categories, Pakistani products -particularly in garments, leather and surgical goods - can step in. But they'll need targeted incentives, modernisation support, and trade diplomacy to get there. Markets don't wait for the prepared - they reward the proactive. We can't control tariff policy abroad, but we can shape our response. Let's make this the start of Pakistan's export transformation - not another missed chance. LCCI welcomes trade deal with US
LAHORE: The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry has warmly welcomed the newly finalized trade agreement between Pakistan and the United States and described it as a game changer for the country's economic future. In a statement, LCCI President Mian Abuzar Shad, Senior Vice President Engineer Khalid Usman and Vice President Shahid Nazir Chaudhry hoped that the agreement would open new avenues for Pakistani exports and significantly strengthen bilateral trade relations. They said that this development is not only timely but also a clear indicator of growing international confidence in Pakistan's economic potential. The LCCI office-bearers said that the United States has historically remained Pakistan's largest export destination and the new trade agreement is expected to provide preferential access to a wide array of Pakistani goods including textiles, leather products, surgical instruments, IT services, sports goods and agricultural commodities. This breakthrough will not only enhance Pakistan's export volume but also improve its trade balance and generate employment. They also pointed out the strategic advantage Pakistan now holds due to the imposition of a 25% tariff on Indian products by the US government. This shift provides Pakistani exporters with a rare opportunity to capture additional market share in the US market, especially in sectors where Pakistani goods already enjoy a competitive edge. Terming the development a direct outcome of strengthened diplomatic and military ties, the LCCI leaders said that the recent high-level engagement between the two countries, particularly the lunch hosted by US President Donald Trump in honour of Pakistan's Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, has played a pivotal role in resetting the tone of bilateral cooperation while the great untiring efforts by the Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Finance Minister Muhammad Aurengzeb under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's leadership have made this agreement finalized. The office-bearers stated that the current trade volume between Pakistan and the United States has already crossed $12 billion in 2024, with Pakistan maintaining a healthy trade surplus. The new agreement is likely to accelerate this trend further by attracting foreign investment and boosting industrial productivity. Additionally, the LCCI appreciated the inclusion of provisions for collaboration in the oil and energy sector, which they believe will be crucial for Pakistan's long-term energy security and economic sustainability. The LCCI office-bearers urged the business community to seize the new opportunities created by this agreement. They assured exporters of their full support in accessing the American market and navigating the new trade framework. CM praises role of Rangers in protection of forests
LAHORE: 'Purpose of celebrating Forest Rangers Day is to raise public awareness about measures to protect forests,' said Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif. In her message on 'International Forest Rangers Day,' the CM said, 'Services of Rangers for the protection of forests are commendable. Protection of forests is a matter of national interest, public should fully cooperate with Rangers.' The chief minister said, 'Forest Rangers in Punjab are playing a valuable role for the protection of forests. Services of Rangers for the protection of natural resources are unforgettable. Forest guards are our environmental heroes.' Maryam Nawaz Sharif said, 'Role of Forest Rangers in restoring ecological balance in Punjab is very important. Further improvement in training and performance of Rangers is the resolve of Punjab government.' She flagged, 'Punjab government, people and Rangers are working together for a green Pakistan.' Moreover, the CM expressed a deep sense of grief over loss of precious human lives due to torrential rains. She said, 'I am deeply saddened by the death of 04 children by drowning in rainwater in Gujarat.' She also expressed grief over death of 04 women after their vehicle was hit by flash flood in Hassan Abdal. She offered condolences and extended her heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families.
