Global sustainability leaders and energy experts convened at the UAE Pavilion in Davos today to discuss the critical role of clean energy in shaping a sustainable future. The high-level panel discussion, titled 'Clean Energy: The Ultimate Path Towards Safeguarding the Planet' , served as a prelude to the International Day of Clean Energy on January 26, 2025.
The session explored actionable strategies to fast-track the global energy transition and meet ambitious targets, including tripling renewable energy capacity and doubling energy efficiency by 2030. Panelists highlighted the interconnected nature of transformative technologies, policy frameworks, and financing strategies required to achieve these goals. They stressed the importance of collaboration among governments, private sector stakeholders, and international organisations to overcome barriers and realise the promise of clean energy.
Francesco La Camera, Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), emphasised, ' I thank the United Arab Emirates for their steadfast partnership in accelerating the global energy transition as we celebrate this year's International Day of Clean Energy. This day not only marks the anniversary of IRENA's founding on 26 January 2009, but it also serves as a clear reminder of the potential of renewables to address climate change, foster sustainable development, reduce pollution, and shape a clean energy future for all. Despite record growth in renewables, the global distribution of renewable power remains alarmingly uneven, with the Global South increasingly being left behind. Urgent global action is needed to address the structural and systemic barriers hindering progress, including gaps in critical infrastructure, regulatory frameworks, technical capacity, and the need for significantly increased investment.'
H.E. Mohamed AlHammadi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC), commented, 'Meeting growing energy demands to enhance energy security in a clean and reliable manner is a top priority for world leaders, who face the dual challenges of climate change and the increasing demand for electricity to power our modern world, including the technology that drives connection and innovation. Nuclear energy is increasingly recognised as a key solution for enabling electrification while decarbonising the grid. With its proven ability to generate abundant, clean electricity 24/7, nuclear energy is supported by 31 nations and 14 international banks committed to tripling global nuclear energy capacity. The UAE has witnessed firsthand the transformative role of nuclear energy in strengthening national energy security, with the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant supplying a quarter of the nation's electricity demand carbon-free, underscoring the UAE's unwavering commitment to reducing carbon emissions.'
H.E. Dr. Nawal Al-Hosany, Permanent Representative of the UAE to IRENA, added, ' Collaboration and knowledge sharing are the driving forces behind a successful global energy transition. By cultivating meaningful partnerships and embracing diverse perspectives, we can unlock the full potential of clean energy solutions, making them more accessible, inclusive, and transformative for communities worldwide. The UAE is proud to be at the forefront of this journey, championing initiatives that pave the way for a sustainable future for all.'
The UAE, a key sponsor of the UN resolution on the International Day of Clean Energy and host country of IRENA, has been at the forefront of advocating for renewable energy and sustainability initiatives. Following the UAE Consensus at COP28, 198 parties agreed to ambitious energy goals, underscoring the urgent need for decisive fiscal policies and financing strategies.
The event concluded with a reaffirmation of the UAE's leadership in advancing renewable energy solutions and its steadfast commitment to global climate action.

From Expo 2020 Dubai to Expo 2025 Osaka, Dubai's legacy continues - Middle East Business News and Information

Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation and CEO of Expo City Dubai Authority, headed a delegation from Expo City Dubai on a visit to Expo 2025 Osaka aimed at building on the success of the initiatives and programmes launched at the World Expo in Dubai. The two-day trip included a visit to the UAE Pavilion, where Her Excellency met volunteers and the pavilion team, as well as meetings with representatives of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) – the World Expo governing body. Under the theme 'Earth to Ether', the UAE Pavilion offers an immersive multisensory journey that showcases the UAE's leadership in space exploration, sustainable innovation and human-centered healthcare. It has proved popular among visitors, welcoming more than 250,000 visitors in the first two weeks of the Expo alone. Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy said: 'As the UAE Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka invites visitors on a journey from 'Earth to Ether,' it echoes the spirit of Expo 2020 Dubai, celebrating our nation's incredible transformation and highlighting our bold vision for collective progress. It was an honour to meet the pavilion team, volunteers and visitors, and I congratulate everyone involved in this grand spectacle of hope and ingenuity.' Her Excellency also gave a keynote address at the inauguration of the Expo 2025's Women's Pavilion – an inspiring opening ceremony that drew from, and built upon, the legacy of the Women's Pavilion at Expo 2020. The Osaka Women's Pavilion in collaboration with Cartier honours the past – retaining the manifesto of 'when women thrive, humanity thrives' from Expo 2020 and repurposing the façade from the Japan Pavilion in Dubai – and delves into the critical intersections of planet, business and technology, education, and policy, as well as arts and culture. The physical and thematic connection between the two World Expos is unprecedented, underscoring the global imperative to work together for a better and more equal future Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy said: 'At Expo 2020 Dubai, the creation of the Women's Pavilion was a defining moment – a statement of intent, declaring that women's contributions are a vital force shaping humanity's path forward and a platform for all to be a part of that journey. Here in Japan, we see a bold evolution of what began in Dubai, embodying both continuity and innovation. The Women's Pavilion in Osaka continues the purposeful collaboration to ensure the legacy of Expo 2020 lives on, and that new global commitments and coalitions will endure well into the future.' Expo 2020 Dubai was the first World Expo since the 1900s to have a standalone pavilion dedicated to women and the integral role they play in society. Reflecting the weight placed on gender equality and women's empowerment, its legacy city, Expo City Dubai, retained the Women's Pavilion, which continues to serve as a hub for dialogue, innovation and collaboration. Media and Promotion of Culture of Understanding .. Seminar at Abu Dhabi Book Fair

Mohamed Mandour As part of its cultural and intellectual program at the 34th edition of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, the Muslim Council of Elders' pavilion hosted a seminar titled 'Media and the Promotion of a Culture of Understanding and Dialogue.' The seminar featured Mr. Mohamed Al Hammadi, Director-General of the Emirates News Agency (WAM), and Mr. Abdel Latif El Menawy, journalist and writer. The speakers emphasized the importance of upholding media ethics and cultivating responsible discourse rooted in the values of tolerance and coexistence—particularly in light of the growing challenges posed by the dissemination of hate speech across both traditional and digital media platforms. Opening the seminar, Mr. Mohamed Al Hammadi stated, 'Today, we are fully aware of the importance of media and its unprecedented influence in shaping public opinion, especially in this era of rapid technological advancement.' He added, 'Words are not merely means of expression—they are a responsibility. A single word can incite conflict or build awareness and peace. Therefore, those who choose to work in the media must recognize that they bear a growing human and national responsibility.' Al Hammadi noted that the greatest challenge in countering hate speech does not lie solely within traditional media institutions such as television and newspapers, but rather in the vast online space, which remains open to millions of users without clear professional or ethical guidelines. He stressed that the media professional's duty is to stand against waves of misinformation and negativity by promoting truth and reinforcing a sense of responsibility. He further affirmed that 'UAE media presents a unique model, characterized by its commitment to spreading a positive discourse that reflects the spirit of tolerance upheld by the wise leadership, and that fosters dialogue and unity without discrimination between members of society, regardless of their nationality or religion.' He added that media is a vital tool for building bridges of communication among people and cultivating a culture of moderation, and that the public's engagement with media content is the true measure of a writer or journalist's success in delivering their message. For his part, journalist Abdel Latif El Menawy explained that with the evolution of communication tools, every individual today has become a content creator and influencer. The power of words has multiplied, and the public sphere is now accessible to all. 'In this context,' he said, 'we must work to ensure that words become a common ground for understanding—not a tool for incitement and division.' El Menawy commended the Muslim Council of Elders for its efforts in advancing a culture of understanding and dialogue, citing the Document on Human Fraternity signed by the late Pope Francis, head of the Catholic Church, and His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar. He remarked, 'This historic document could not have been created without the profound human and spiritual qualities of both signatories. It is one of the most important documents of modern times and deserves effective mechanisms to ensure its global implementation and sustainability.' He concluded by stating that media is not a magical instrument but rather a reflection of societal awareness. It has a direct influence on shaping beliefs, and we urgently need to spread positive narratives, institutionalize models of dialogue, and support initiatives like the Document on Human Fraternity across all environments—even those that appear resistant or closed to the other. The Muslim Council of Elders' pavilion at the 2025 Abu Dhabi International Book Fair features more than 250 diverse intellectual and cultural publications, including a selection of the latest releases from Al-Hokama Publishing. These works address some of the most pressing intellectual and cultural issues of our time and reflect the Council's mission to promote peace, foster dialogue, and instill the values of tolerance and human fraternity. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Egypt confirms denial of airspace access to US B-52 bombers Lifestyle Pistachio and Raspberry Cheesecake Domes Recipe News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Arts & Culture Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's $4.7M LA Home Burglarized Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Bouchra Dahlab Crowned Miss Arab World 2025 .. About the Emirates Nuclear Energy Company: The Emirates Nuclear Energy Company (ENEC) is part of ADQ, one of the region's largest holding companies with a broad portfolio of major enterprises spanning key sectors of Abu Dhabi's diversified economy. Established by decree in December 2009 by the late His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, ENEC represents all aspects of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Peaceful Nuclear Energy Program. The four units of ENEC's flagship Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant are generating 40 TWh of safe, clean and reliable electricity 24/7 for the UAE, boosting the Nation's energy security and sustainability in parallel. The Barakah Plant generates around 25% of the nation's electricity while preventing the release of 22.4 million tons of carbon per annum. As a result, ENEC is leading the largest decarbonization effort in the country and spearheading the UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative. Beyond overseeing safe, quality-led operations at Barakah, ENEC is focused on exploring opportunities to maximize the full value of the expertise developed in nuclear mega project program delivery and technology deployment through investment, collaboration and development opportunities. As part of this, ENEC is looking at new nuclear energy technologies such as Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and Advanced Reactor technologies, through its ADVANCE program, for potential domestic and international deployment.
